Ever tried to go for an opportunity and then you get hit with the big rejection? And that is when you realize that no matter how hard you work, some things are just not going to be for you. You can put your heart and soul into whatever it is you’re doing, yet at the end of the day it means nothing. Someone will get the gig over you, but what hurts the most is someone who got it and wasn’t nearly as good as you. And that’s when you find out, there are other qualities besides being good at something. This can be frustrating because I thought that is what you needed was pure talent.
are you sure you’re that good
You have this idea that you were the best, but were you? Nobody want to think that they were not that good. But in reality, you might not be that good. So you worked hard, but this person was still better. Thy might not have worked as hard either, but they were nonetheless better. Now some people observe what that person did, and then they try to figure out what they did wrong. But so many people won’t do that, they just end up not liking the person who got the role.
it’s the nature of the game
Guess what people, it is what it is. You didn’t get it, so regroup and go back at it. That is apart of the game . And that is the setbacks that comes with not getting what you want. Those that do go on to succeed are the ones that keep at it until they do get that major opportunity. The ones that don’t get the opportunity are the ones that complain about how they got passed up.
The month of July and August is coming up so you know what that means. It’s time a for a new topic. And that topic will be careers. Everything I have to say about careers in my life and your life as well. So stay tuned for the next couple of months geared toward working in this ever changing work environment. So continue to read, like, share, and follow my blog.
You want to put yourself in position to do bigger things with your career, you need to always put back in to your career. And that does not always have to be reinvesting money back in. This could mean making decisions that are better which will place you in a specific space for you to make more money. Because whatever you did to get yourself to this place may require you to recycle some of that knowledge in order for yourself to move into another space. Well, how do you recycle that information to make yourself better at what you do? Well, how did you get the information you have now? The same work, but a lot more research than prior.
coming home to work after work
When you get off work and come home, what are you doing that will further aid you in career advancement? Because coming home sleeping saying I’m tired is not enough. You have to be willing to do more and put out more. So go to trade shows, attend conferences, have meetups, do more that will allow you to meet people in your career field. Just working 8 hours per day, 5 days a week does nothing but make you expert in that particular area. But once that area is recycled with something better you lose. So staying ahead of the curb is crucial in your long term success. Now, on the other hand, you can choose not to do so, but the people who make those sacrifices will win.
losing people in life
Remember something in life, that is not everyone is going to be with you on your journey through life. You are going to lose people simply because the direction your’re headed, they are going in another direction. And over time you tend you lose touch. It’s not something that is malicious, you just do. Especially if you want to build your career, you will lose time with them as you climb. Some will understand your work you must put in, the others will fall and move on. It’s a necessary evil, but you have to do it.
When you are on a team and want to get a promotion for yourself, how do you stand out so that you can advance. Because when you are building and want to grow within and organization, you need to stand out. Yet how do you do such a thing with so many other people of the same mind-frame as you? Everyone, from the moment they walk into the office space, has this one thing in mind and that is climbing that ladder to the top. How is this going to pan out for you if you feel you are the one of many to make it happen?
As you are making the rounds and knowing everyone in sight, you are going to need some type of ally. And the reason being is because you want your name to make the rounds of people that will be getting to know who you are in the office. They will speak highly of you which will then in turn aid in you being the chosen one for the promotions as time goes on. And what’s also going to happen is people will not hold as much animosity for the role being given to you. You will then also be the guy people want to impress for their chance to rise up.
Working late nights really makes you stand out in the crowd. You show up early and leave later then everyone else. But make sure you’re doing something that requires your time and not the impression you are doing something. You don’t want to fake the part, but be the part. It’s so easy to get caught up in the idea of being what you want instead of actually doing the work. And when you are getting work done, it makes it easier to promote you forward. Once again, you need allies as much as possible for when you get in that role you have people with the least amount of resistance.
compliment don’t hate
How to kiss ass and not appear desperate. Man wouldn’t that be a great book to be written because it’s what it is. You have to be willing to compliment the work of others as much as possible. Let your work stand on its own and talk great about others. Trust and believe there will be people who reciprocate. And worst comes to worst, the people who you compliment might walk away with the promotion. But they will be told how you aided in your complementation. So guess who’s name is in the strong race for the next step up. Now is this a guarantee, no, nothing is, but you are and will be remembered moving forward.
We all want to make a good income, or what we define as a good income. But what happens when you are in a relationship where you feel pressure to make a certain amount of money, or be at risk of losing that relationship? This tends to happen more with men than with women. And when you are approached with this ultimatum, then you are begin scrambling for ways to make more money. But a career is not you scrambling to make money in a quick way so you don’t lose the person you are dating. A career is something you have to be willing to put a lot of time and energy into which can take years. And it’s not something that you gain by saying, “Ok, now I’m in this relationship, I need to be better.” You have to put in time, and have someone these that understands what you do or seek to accomplish.
who makes the most
The following pie graph are of the top jobs that men have worked in the year 2018 that researched by CNBC. And this is why so many, especially young men seek these types of jobs. They are the gigs that pay the most money so they can be looked at as an attractive
candidate for a monogamous relationship. Now, just because these are the the highest paid jobs, don’t mean that every guy who is employed under this title earns this amount. Usually, these top incomes are reserved for those that have the most years of experience and/or the best in their fields. So if you want to earn the money they do at the top, develop a skill that allows you the ability to be in this select few group.
forgoing your life
If you are constantly working, you are going yo to be missing a lot of quality time with your significant other. So that will also start to be a problem as well. Because if money is a motivator to be with someone, then you can’t be around them the majority of the time. But then your relationship falls apart because you aren’t there most of the time. Here is where you actually lose productivity on the job that could help you earn more money. Mentally you are out of it, and now that wears on you in your career.
move on dude
Money does not work in the context of you make it because someone else want s you to make it. It happens when it happens. And rushing the process could actually prolong your journey through your career. So your best bet is to keep on going. Let that person be someone else’s problem. You don’t want to sacrifice your mental state in your career growth.
In my life, I had plenty of things that I was good at, but not a lot of things that I was passionate about. That was until my senior year in undergraduate school when I started to write my first screenplay. For personal reasons I found that writing was a way to shift how I felt into something outside of myself. But it wasn’t until my mid 20’s when I decided to embark on a career pursuit to become a writer as a career. That quickly became filmmaking and now has opened into photography as well. I never had any interest in the arts outside of listening to music and watching television. The thought of filmmaking, becoming an author, and photography was not on my radar by a long shot.
wanting to give up
If you have never been down this road of wondering what the hell am I doing, then you are definitely not truly pursuing the dream. Meaning, no matter how much you love what you do, there is something internally telling you to run and run fast. That is not only fear talking, but it’s nature. Nature has placed that inside of man because it is what has aided in our survival as a species for so many thousands of years. And for most people, they listen to that inner voice and run to what is safe and makes sense. Then there are the people who jump out there and take the risk. They fail and they fail until they succeed. It is something that so many people admire about them; that fearlessness. But even the most fearless question their abilities at times.
Everyone is so convinced that we are these amazing creatures. We think and feel that just because we are endowed with a conscious it means something. Which is why it’s hard to be honest and admit when we are good or bad at something we love. Now, what’s interesting is that we can be better if we are honest with our current status. But so many can’t get to the point of improving because they are stuck on the fact that you criticized their work. And that criticism is needed; as long as the person giving the criticism knows what they’re talking about. There is no real way to describe it, you just know when it’s right and when it’s not. What’s sad is that not everyone gets that internal response from nature.
A lot of times when we need to build our careers, it takes financing. Financing that the average person does not have in their pockets. So what do you do when you need the money to get started. For me, I have an interest in filmmaking, writing, and photography. So my initial investment in writing is cheaper than filmmaking and photography. Filmmaking and photography are both expensive, so you have to start with small investments. Or, you could try saving up over a long period of time. Then again, there is the reaching out to family and friends, or trying to crowd fund, or trying to get grant money, or a loan, or contest. So as you can see, you have to look under every rock for resources.
how to start
Everyone needs to have a start in life. For me I started writing at the age of 23 years old. I am now 7 years into the writing experience of the novel and screenwriting process. I started filmmaking at the age of 26 and photography in the past 1 year. I started writing with Microsoft word on the school’s computers and eventually bought myself a laptop. But raised funding for my short film through Indiegogo website. I also just so happen had a refund from grad school and bought a starter camera. Since then I bought a prime lens. And now I am taking more and more photos while also writing my first book and self-publishing it.
From the previous passage, you have to now take it a step further by growing your audience in whatever it is you’re doing. For me, I have my social media platforms that I have invested a lot of time and energy. And yet, it is still a work in progress. This is a growth stage that seems to be going nowhere, because in the paradigm there is no movement. You are up and then back down. But over time you start to see the results. Results that typically take years to accomplish.
living life is more important
The reason so many can’t save money is not because of bills. But it’s actually because they want to live their lives. People want new clothes, a car note, and date. And who can blame them, but you now have to be willing to sacrifice your dreams. Because in the building stages, there is no room for both. You have to put these types of things on hold for something much greater.
