Who wouldn’t want to walk on the job and become the CEO on the first day. And that is a thought process of a young generation today. This idea that you don’t have to put years and years into your career to climb to where you want to go. And the reason for the mentality is because parents have not prepared their children for the real world. Now the employer has to deal with the grunt of what their parents failed to do themselves. Now, some employers just write it off and let it become the parents’ fault. They shouldn’t have raised their child/children to be so entitled. Yet, we have to ask ourselves, what is the real reason why the entitlement exist. Because there are people much older with an entitled attitude.

it starts young

When you are growing up, it is parents job to rear you in a certain way. Their job is to tell you about the world and prepare you so you don’t end up being someone’s problem but someone’s asset. And when the parents fail, then what you have is a young person coming into the workplace not realizing they have to build. And in this generation is has a lot to do with the “everyone gets a trophy” mentality. So the young person must be deprogrammed and then they will be able to live in society. This means hitting them with the real world at once. It will force them to change and a means of survival.

the time it takes

If you want to know why it takes so much time, it’s because you have to put so many hours of time and experience into your craft. And the craft can be a slow build depending on the career move you are making in life. So don’t be shocked if you find yourself building for 20 years. So be prepared for the long journey, if not you won’t get far in life.

What happens when you are in a position to have to care for multiple people in your family. And the income that you are bringing in is just not enough to deal with the burden? Then what you are stuck with is the decision to try to make more money, or cut some people off. But since you might be less obligated to cut people off, then you may have to decide if it’s in your best interest to try to find other methods for making money. But how do you make more money, because it’s not like money just magically appears into your bank account. You have have a skill of some sort that renders you the ability to make more money.

don’t be afraid to ask for that promotion 

When you are working somewhere for a very long time, and you know that your income is not cutting it, ask for a raise. Now, it sounds easier than you think because what happens when you get turned down? How do you deal with the rejection because you do have to come to work again tomorrow. and now it creates a weird environment. So, are you prepared to walk off the gig so that your family can do better.

who is on your payroll

Who are these people in the household that you have to care for that are causing you to come out of pocket? Make sure that you can care for them with the income you have or make them pull their own weight as well. If they are wife/husband and kids fine, but other relatives can cause a strain on you. So know what you can handle in life.

FALLING OFF: HOW TO RECOVER FROM A JOB SETBACK

Whenever you have a setback in life, it can difficult to recover. But nothing is more difficult to recover from, besides an illness, than losing your job. Because you can’t just walk into an establishment like decades ago and find one. You have to really do some serious searching, especially today with such a high percentage of jobs being referrals. You have to reach out to every contact you have ever had in life to see if they can help you. And that is because the average person who loses their job will be homeless in less than a month. Why, well it’s because the majority of people live paycheck to paycheck. So what do you do because I have never lost my job, but I have had real setbacks.

getting back to yourself

How do you get back into position so you can be back to where you should be. And that could take a lot of mental evaluation on your behalf. Because once you lose your job, there is a confidence hit that you take. Your internal self is not right, so you have a hard time getting back up. But at some point you have to get back up, otherwise you will get into a rut and never go anywhere. So find some way to gain that inner confidence and strength so you don’t too down on yourself where you cannot recover.

your side hustle

If you ever get back on your feet, it is important you try to have a little extra income outside your day job. This can be thrown into a savings account and never touched unless you need it. Now this is easier said than done, but we are not in the time of our parents and grandparents. Jobs are a lot more hard to come by.

I live in New York City, a place where the income is so different from the rest of the country. But also the cost of living makes things also different. And with that said, we must have the conversation that talks about real money versus low income. And we have to understand what is a lot to some might be little to others. For example, $60,000 per year is not much in New York City, but a lot in Wisconsin where I come from. Then again, I am a single man with no children, so even in New York City $60,000 is good money in New York City for me.

Are you a parent? If so, then you know that children and be quite expensive. And they are the ones that determine if you make real money. Now, at certain amounts of money, we know is amazing. Like athletes and entertainers, but most people are not them. So you have to look at life through a rational lens. And why is it so expensive to raise? It’s because you have to take into consideration neighborhoods, schools districts, clothes, food, health, etc. And that is something that can drive up any cost when looking at income.

Now, here is the part where you can anticipate where you can see how much you can afford. Not just cost of living, but also where you can see what amenities the money can afford you. Because no one just wants to work and survive. We all have wants on top of needs. Just make sure you know what you can afford. Because anything beyond that point is living above your means. Then you find yourself in a weird predicament.

THE HOOKUP: GETTING A JOB AS MEANS OF A RECOMMENDATION

People are always focusing on their qualifications for a job, but they are not really paying attention to the connections. Ever hear that saying, I ain’t what you know but who?” Well,  what happens when you don’t know anyone that can get you through the door? You now have to figure out a way to get noticed so that you you can be noticed by people who can aid you on your road to success. But, what if you never come in contact with those gate keepers? Does that mean you can never succeed in life? There is always a way around the obstacle to get to where you have to go.

you are the plug

What happens when you are the one that everyone wants to go to because you have the connections. Then you have not only a power position, but you are the one that has to deal with the upset when you say no to people. Trust and believe, it will happen because you can’t say no everyone. Because everyone think they are qualified for a role, but they are not. And you hate to be the one to tell them they are what is needed for a role. But you are also the one to tell them that you cannot recommend a job because deep down inside you know what that other organization is looking for. But you could also be wrong about this; I mean you are basing it on your own views of the person. People have been known to change.

When you are receiving a letter of recommendation, and each person has similar statements, yet unrelated, that says a lot. Especially if you have not been working with this organization for a while. That means you were a very memorable person. Memorable enough where they could write something compelling even after you left because there was a good impression by yourself.

OVERQUALIFIED: WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN?

Ever take a long look at your resume and thought to yourself, “I might be overqualified for the job I am seeking to attain. Some people don’t have a job at all, but are seeking employment. They are individuals that are willing to take the gig to hold them over until they find something else. Only problem with that is the employer is looking for someone with entry skills. I used to always think it was for reasons like the organization does not want to pay you what you are worth. And to a degree, there is reality there. But if you are applying for a job that you need and not really one that benefits your qualifications, then it could prove to hurt you once you do get that job that matches your qualifications.

don’t include everything

Whenever you decide to put together a resume, you need to understand something. You should not include everything you do. Because people may look at it, and think twice. You need a job, then you should put what is needed, but then you should also keep in mind that if there is too much it could hurt you. So just keep it in mind when you are compiling information.

throwing your hands up

When you are working a job where you are overqualified, then what you’re dealing with is dissatisfaction. Because the job will not only be a lack of a challenge, you’re also going to have no real ability to climb. Jobs where you can not really climb, you will start to resent it. Then you will throw your hands up and not have much motivation to do much of anything. So sometimes in need of a job, you will have to pass to keep from hating your job later. You will have a check, but resent the move.

When you are working in an office space or any other workplace, you should be cautious of how you communicate with your fellow employees. Especially if the employees are of the opposite gender. And if you are male, you should really watch yourself because it is so easy to find yourself in trouble when harmless fun goes too far. So be mindful of how you behave so you don’t find yourself in the middle of a human resource nightmare. So, what are some things you might want to watch out for as you move your way through the daily workplace?

touchy feely

I have come into the workplace and given people hugs. Then you think to yourself, could this be something that comes up later on, on the job. It’s sad to say this, but in our time period today, you have to be careful that you don’t lose your job or more, go to jail. But why, why should I risk going to jail? And the reason being is that you never know people’s threshold for comfort. Now, mot people get to know you, and then they are more comfortable to hug. But even people who know each other can sometimes make each other feel uncomfortable.

watch your words

When you are talking to someone in the workplace, make sure you know that you might get to know people quite intimately, but it’s still work. And the things you say, even to your coworkers off the clock is still part of the job. So you have a conversation about sex off the the job, but you’re in a sensitive space because you still see this person. And you might say something that could trigger them to not want to work with you anymore. Now you’re stuck because you need your job. So adhere to the things you say.

dating is a no no

These are the people you tend to be around a lot so it comes as no surprise relationships start. But if you want my advice, don’t do it. You should not be dating people who work alongside. It can cause problems if the date becomes something that shouldn’t have happened. Imagine dating someone you work with and have to see them everyday after a breakup. The professional environment can prove to be place of conflict.
