CAREER CHOICES: WHAT SHOULD I PURSUE AS A CAREER

choices, decision, doors

“Where to turn?”

so many choices

After college there is down moment when you realize that you don’t know what you want to pursue in life. And that’s when reality sets in entering life. You have student loans, health care, dental, rent, utilities, food, and transportation cost. Unless, you decide to move back in with your parents. Which is a decision that so many young people just do not want to do. You lived on your own for four years, now you’re back in mom and dad’s house. And anxiety sets in because you just knew coming from school you were getting six figures on some job. You apply for work, yet it’s all minimum wage and low pay entry positions. Well, guess what, welcome to life.

weighing options

When you don’t know what you want to do in life, fine. A lot of people spend years trying to find their thing. So as I have said in prior posts, test a lot of things to see what you’re good at. Then narrow it down to a few options. Find what you love and what you’re good at as well. Why is it to love what you do? Because the time it takes to make big bucks or money at all will be long. So you have to like doing what you’re doing. Otherwise you’re going to give up fast. Like me for example, I am pursuing a screenwriting, author, and photography career. If you’re only chasing money, you will be miserable. Has to be more than that; you have to fall in love with it.

finding your thing

You’ll know when your thing is there inside of you. Because it will be undeniable to the point that you’ll do seamlessly without even trying. You want to design and build apps, you’ll do so with ease. But coding is going to take you a lot of time to learn the repetition. Oh, you want to be a leading surgeon, fine, go through your Master’s program, then on to med school. Get yourself a residency, and work for the next 15 – 20 yrs. Yes, that’s right, that many years, which is why it’s great to start as young as possible. Only problem is that most don’t find their thing they’re good at until later.

advice

When receiving advice from others, make sure you’re taking in the appropriate advice. Because you want to adhere to the stuff that could aid you. But not everything people tell you will work. So use your better judgement in delegating what’s important and not. People will assume they know your strengths and weaknesses. But they are only telling you how they see you. Pay heed to the people talking, they may not only know you, but not want you to truly persevere.

EDUCAREER: DO I REALLY NEED TO ATTEND COLLEGE FOR MY PROFESSION

auditorium, benches, board

“The paper won’t help, experience will.”

c’s get degrees

In life, we think that if only we attain a college degree, we can then go on to make a good living. Number one, what is the meaning of good living? The other is that going to college alone won’t grant you a job in the future or even at the moment. You have to gain some form of experience before landing that dream job. So be prepared to work long and hard. So no, having that piece of paper means you have just completed a gear switch from park to drive. But there is so much that goes into driving a car.

not work experience

There is a reason trying to use just a degree alone is tough to get a job. And that is that work experience is work experience. Going to college is not learning anything that will make you ready for that job. Meaning, just because you have a degree in sociology does not make you ready to work as a social worker. You have to go a long ways before you can really start to help people. Better get an internship and work from there on. Because all you need in school is a C average and you get a degree. That means the average college kid barely studies. Which is another reason your degree won’t matter.

what job, well it all depends

You want to become a doctor, then you have no other choice; you must attend med school. But if you want become a computer programmer, should you have to, yes and no. Depending on how specialized the job, you may have to attend school. Because people want to see a resume with a top tier school connected. Now, on the other hand you do have people that want to take in raw talent. But those are very few and far between. For the most part, people want to see an accredited school. That is unless you are self-employed.

RUNNING ON EMPTY: DO YOU FEEL YOU DON’T HAVE ENOUGH TIME WORKING

Man With Hand on Temple Looking at Laptop

“I just need more time.”

work work work

The majority of Americans work a 40 hour work week. Now there are those that work more or even less, but the average is 40 hours. With 168 hours in a week, 40 seems like so little time. But when you factor in lunch, travel, getting ready for work, and raising children, as well tending to your significant other and yourself, that time goes fast. So what is a person to do when they work so much they feel they never have enough time for anything else? You have to sit back and assess your life and understand if what you’re doing is worth the fight. Should you be giving this much of yourself to your work.

nothing but time

We feel we don’t have time, but in reality, we have nothing but time. It’s just that we don’t properly delegate our time the way we should. Time is one of those relative things in life. Because I could be working my overnight job and time flies even though I have been there for 10 hours, versus 4 – 5 hours previously worked in a different role. So how does one aspect of time differ from another? It’s because we all have the same 24 hours, but they way we dictate our time is going to have an effect on the way we perceive time.

life standing still

When you’re working a job, it seems like time never ticks if you don’t like your job. Once again, this is relative because people who love their work never have enough time. But in the moment when you’re working, you will work and work and work and work, yet only 10 minutes have passed. But getting ready for work time flies. The last hour of work is long, but the 45 minutes to 1 hour to get home is fast. Anytime you take time out for self, life won’t be at a stand still. Once again, our perception of time is dictated by our perception of an activity that we take part in given our mental state of fulfillment.

you will never understand

People will tell you all day that you don’t understand. You have more time to yourself and they have all these obligations. They are constantly empty once work is complete. In reality time is not the problem with people running on empty. The reason you wish you had more time is because daily life is a mental drain. You’re mentally and sometimes physically drained. So you have time, it’s used sleeping and sitting around. Just think, remember earlier I said 168 hours in a week. Well, 40 hours for work, there is 120 left. You sleep 7 – 8, and now you have between 64 and 71 hours left. You travel to and from work 5 days a week, now you’re down to 54 – 61 hours left. If you have children, that is a massive chunk, but so many people don’t. Let me ask you something, what are you doing with all that time?

TAKE YOUR KID TO WORK DAY: WHY ISN’T THIS STILL A POPULAR TRADITION

Woman Together With Children Holding Laptop Computer

“They should see success early on.”

tag along

When I was a child there was a special occasion called,” Take your daughter to work day.” It was to promote women in the workforce. But also it was aimed at showing little girls what they could potentially be in life. Days like this were odd when the whole grade level or more would be all boys in class. Later on the day changed to take your kid to day. As of today, I don’t think the day is celebrated anymore. With all the political correctness who know the real reason. But on the other hand, should we reconsider taking the day back again.

they learn a lot

Children learn a lot at home, but what they learn from watching you work on a job is something different. Because they are not watching mom and dad be mom and dad. They are watching mom and dad not only be responsible, but told what to do. Which is an interesting dynamic when you have children and they live by your rules. So them watching you under the chain of command allows them to see how orders are doled out. It prepares them for the world they will enter once mom and dad are no longer in the picture. The introduction into life and how you must behave to survive in this world.

why it stopped

The answer to the header is that it never really stopped. It just has not been as popular as it was in the past. But I think we should start promoting the take the kid to your job. Because in a society where every kid gets a trophy, they should see that everyone don’t get a trophy. Your hardest sometimes is still not good enough. That realness is too much to ignore, and will make them tough enough to deal in life.

CHA-CHING: WHAT’S MORE IMPORTANT IN A CAREER MONEY OR HAPPINESS

bracelets, cash, crumpled

“Full wallet or full heart.”

making bank

All of us hope to have a fun and interesting job that we can go to everyday that will make us a lot of money. But is money alone the thing that keeps us coming to work everyday? What about the fulfillment you receive form walking into the building. Does that not mean anything? And that’s when you have to ask yourself the question of what is more important money or happiness? And yes, making money will afford you to do the things that you wanted to do for so long. So yes, there is this link between money and happiness. Yet, they can be separate as well.

internalized importance

You make over six figures a year, you shop, you go on vacations, and dine at fine restaurants. But there is still something missing about your job and that is the fact that you don’t like what you do. And for so many people, they ask how is this possible. They can’t understand why someone with so much money each year can’t like what they do. But it happens because either the job has ran its course, things become too redundant, or you don’t like the people you work with. So now you have this internal pain. But for a lot of people, they work jobs that they didn’t plan of working in life.

dough is important

Money isn’t everything, but it’s everything. And you don’t realize how important it is until you’re struggling to make ends meet. You learn really fast how much it matters when you don’t have it. It’s fine and all to have dreams and goals, but you have to be practical about your life. You don’t like your job and seek happiness, fine. But be able to sustain your current life or be prepared to downsize. And that is tough once you’ve grown accustomed to your life you have built. You might be an executive, but always had a passion for painting. A life as an artist might bring in average American income while that executive life could bring in deeper six figure money. So it’s fine to have what you love, but be prepared to make some serious financial adjustments.

REDUNDANT LIFE: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN CAREER IS TOO ROUTINE

Two Brown and Blue Ceramic Mugs

“Same ole same ole.”

daily routine

When on the job, and you feel like it’s becoming a redundant task, switch it up. Because if you start to get that feeling of, “Oh, this again,” you’ll lose the respect for what you do. And if you’re doing something you love, you never want to lose respect. Because then you start to put out material that is garbage. So what you must do is reinvent yourself so that you are forced to take a step back and go hard again. But why do people get into a routine and it just becomes that in their lives.

monday – friday

Get up, go to work, put for a few hours, take a lunch, work some more, go home, eat, sleep; do it all again. Throughout this time you never change up what you are doing, so you become annoyed with the process. How about getting up exercising, walk to work, eat through lunch. Get everything done early, so you can head out early. Switch up the style because you will get bored quick. Or better yet, challenge yourself to bring in new methods of business to increase your odds of a raise.

what are you doing

The reason for the routine feeling may be linked to the fact that you need a new job. The current job you are working may have ran its course. And now you need a shift of focus in life. Because the job you currently have might be holding you back from doing more. And since it may be hard to find a job, it wouldn’t hurt to try your hand at an outside income to keep your mind in another direction. Even if you make a small amount of money, it’s a little bit more extra on top of your day job.

WORKPLACE MANNERS: HOW TO BEHAVE IN WORK WITH EMPLOYEES

Two Men Leaning in Table

“Know your surroundings.”

the workplace

The workplace has been for the longest an environment where you could grow to have a relationship with the people you work along side. But as time progressed, we had to create more and more of an environment where people felt safe. And that means that certain workplace etiquette was enforced so that people wouldn’t feel threatened. Not only were there rules implemented for the workplace for how you should behave, but also laws were enacted that gave people rights that otherwise wouldn’t be allotted to them by the organizations or institutions that employed them. And just to name a few, I have rules below that were put in place to make us as workers feel safe.

protocol

There were policies that were put into place to make the worker feel good about coming to work each day.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT

The EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) has a strict guideline for the protocol that must be taken when in the workplace. And this is a form of discrimination that stems from Image result for EEOCthe Civil Rights Act of 1964. Harassment does not have to be of the opposite sex, nor does the person accusing have to be the one harassed. And that can be an interesting circumstance especially if the person and the other being spoken to have a mutual relationship. That means someone just in the vicinity can be uncomfortable just by your comments that have nothing to do with them. So you have to be careful now in that regard.

POLITICS

On jobs, especially right now in this divisive country, we are a lot of times strictly prohibited from having political discussion in the workplace. With the right and left battling it out to see whose Image result for MAGAside is better, you can really have a breakdown in the workplace with all this political talk. And not just talk about the presidents, it has crept into our sports and entertainment as well. So to keep things very simple, some workplaces don’t even allow people to talk about the fact that they are going to vote period. Because that in itself has caused problems just the idea of your vote
counting. So no discussions about politics, only work.

INCOME

A rule that has stood for so long, even longer than the previous two, and that is we don’t talk about money in the workplace. We don’t discuss who makes what and how they got the money they have on the job. That only creates even more problems when that takes place. Because now you have people who feel this person does not deserve to make as much as this person over here. And now, the workplace breakdown causes a lack of productivity. Since this person makes this much, they should be doing this or that. So we leave income to the person who makes the income.

RELIGION

Please, please, please keep your religious beliefs to yourself in the workplace. Yes America is a place to practice what you believe. But knowing that this is a diverse country where even in Christianity, we practice so many different sects, there are even more issues through other beliefs. So IO don’t even want to spend much time on this one. You will save yourself a lot of paperwork and lawsuits.

efficiency

The overall goal of any workplace is to maintain the productive nature of the job. We want everything to be effective, efficient, and productive. Once that leaves we are all in jeopardy of losing out.
