NOT THERE YET: HOW TO DEAL WITH NOT BEING WHERE YOU WANT TO BE

“In the paradigm we feel failed.”

where am i at the moment

Ever get the feeling that you should be further in your career than you are at the moment? There is something holding you back and you can’t seem to get where you want to be. This is a feeling that so many people deal with on a daily basis. Trying to figure out why their lives are not in better places. And the biggest mistake we make a lot of times is comparing ourselves to the lives that other people have. The reality is, you shouldn’t want the lives others have, fight for the one you want instead. But it’s hard especially when you are young to grasp this concept. Because no matter your age, there is someone bigger than you in your position at your young age. And you must learn that when they are young, this an exception to the rule and not the standard.

not putting in enough

Work those mental muscles and stretch your mind further than you are stretching it now. This is something that takes a lot of time to master. And when I say time, I mean years of work. I am pursuing a career as an author/screenwriter. You have to know that this is a lifetime journey of ups and downs. If you want to be successful overnight then you’re going to have a problem. Because you hear nothing comes overnight, and that is true. It’s a cliche, yet the time put in means trying to make sense of the world around you so as to tell a story no one has told before. OR it could mean writing a similar story, but from a different point of view.

seeing the less talented prevail

There are the groups of people who slip through the cracks and become over the top successful without putting in much work. We look at them and can’t for the life us figure out why they have a platform. And should they or shouldn’t they is up for debate. But what I will say is this, most people who slip through the cracks don’t sustain over the long haul. They eventually fall off because they have never had to build through the adversity. Meaning we all have some point where we fall and have to get up. This is where they don’t get up because they never had to go through the bullshit. So they get stuck and enough time goes by where we think to ourselves where they went.

WORK FOR FUN: TURNING YOUR FUN INTO CAREER

Jumpshot Photography of Woman in White and Yellow Dress Near Body of Water

“Make it a vacation.”

my work is my fun

We all have these visions of this dream job that involves us working and living everyday like it’s your last. Having this great career that means you get paid to have your fun. But the reality is, very few people will ever get their dream job. The majority of people will never be able to experience that jittery night before Sunday going into the next week. They will experience I can’t wait until Friday feeling so I can get out of here feeling. And that is no way to live, but it’s a realization for so many. So how do you land that dream job so can do what you love instead of what you have to do?

time energy money

You want that dream job, but the only thing that is holding you back is what? Nothing really, unless you want to factor in the lack of confidence. For starters, the time it takes to put into a career, so many people are afraid of failing. So what they do is live their lives not ever pursuing because of the fear. The fear of putting a lot time into something and it not working. Then there is the energy on top of the time. We have to accept our reality while working a dream. And that means time on top of time, with working a day and pursuing at night. But wait a minute, then there is the money it takes. And I don’t mean rich, I mean not having a relationship or not hanging with friends. Why, so that all your pennies go toward what you want over time.

taking opportunities when they come

Not every opportunity come sin the form in which you want it. Sometimes it comes in the form of cashless services. But who in their right mind want to work for free. But there are times where no pay or low pay have provided people  with the ground work of doing so much in their lives. For me, it’s buying a camera with my own money and small equipment as well as making my own short films. This is the start for my career as a filmmaker, photographer, and author. Take the risk yourself early on, and then people will be willing to work with you.

LAME IS THE NEW COOL: WHY THE POPULAR KID IS RARELY THE MOST SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR CAREER

Close-up Photo of Man Wearing Black Suit Jacket Doing Thumbs Up Gesture

“Focus isn’t fun, but necessary.”

staying up late

You ever see the kid growing up in school who took part in all the after school programs? They were in the science fair, and the chess club, and the glee club. And that is what success truly looks like. It’s the working after work that will make you better at what you do. Most kids leave school and go home to watch television. But then what happens, they become adults who do the same thing. These adults get off of work and come home to a television like when they were kids. And the ones that work after hours are generally the people who accomplish their goals. And why do you have to stay behind and work extra time?

expert in field or task

When you are working your job everyday for years, are you paying attention to the work, or are you just punching a clock? Because if all you are doing is going to work and coming home, you’re most likely not going fair in life. You have to do more, and that is something that the popular kid in school never really did. They were able to skate through life with just charm. But as an adult, charm will only get you so far. You need productivity, but what is hat for someone who never knew real productive societal work. Yeah, sure, their parents gave them chores, so they know how to take orders. But reaching further in your career means going outside the natural order. But how do you do so when all you know is orders?

we want to all fit in

No one want to be an outsider in life. But in order to be successful sometimes you have to step outside the group, which is something so many don’t want to do. Popular people want to have friends even if the friends are not the most genuine of people. But the people who want to be successful chase quality no quantity. And just because you have people around you don’t mean they should occupy your space. So being lame actually makes you a winner in life because you have to step outside your inner circle. And that means at times making yourself stand out against what others are doing. But, once again, we want to fit in. But what crowd are you fitting into, that you want so desperately to be apart of?

GIVE UP NOW FOR LATER: WHY YOU MUST RESIST SHORT TERM FUN FOR CAREER

Woman Sitting in Front of Macbook

“You must be ready to miss a lot.”

give it up

So many young people want to have all this success, but what are you willing to give up to get to that point. Because in order to establish yourself in your career, you must really be willing to put in a lot of effort and time. And that means forgoing the fun now to put in for fun later. This is where having a career is so hard for so many people. Because this means building which is going to cut into your social life. And what young person really want to give up their social lives? Yet there is so much that is wanted from life that requires giving life up. So, you think you have what it takes, here is an insight into the climb.

relationships are for lames

Depending on the career path you choose, you better have a pretty understanding partner. Because if you don’t you will lose them and fast. Or, you might find yourself having to give up on your career goals. You will be put in that position since one of them is going to get in the way of the other. They need to understand before even really getting too deep into the relationship what it is you do. They need to know that your time is needed in this other area and that they need to be good without you at times. Not something that is going to go over with too many people. You’ll lose people in life. And that is something you’ll have to just deal with in your pursuit. Everyone is not meant to be in your life on the climb. So choose the people around you wisely.

social gatherings are for networking only

You want to go out for drinks, fine, make sure it’s a place where like minded people will be gathering so it can advance your career. Going to the club to just dance and drink, or looking around for random hookups are not on the list of priorities at this point. You should be thinking about how you’re going to position yourself in this space so that people know who you are, and will aid you in building your brand and/or profile. And when you are not at one of these social gatherings, then it’s in your best interest to not even be out and about.

be broke investing in you

So many people say they don’t have the money to build something for themselves. But if I were to setup and excel spreadsheet of their expenses, I would see something sinister. And that is the allocation of their funds in areas that are not the least bit important. I don’t have the money, but I have a new $1200 iPhone. “Well, there is a payment option for the phone.” Fine, get a cheaper phone, and the payment option for that piece of technology, transfer it elsewhere. “I need a dependable car.” Fine, but why drive a BMW or Mercedes with a high car payment. Get yourself a Ford or GM, with payments of just over $100 per month instead of $500 or $600. You don’t need a luxury vehicle for it to be depended upon. So it is not affordability, but people’s constant need to swipe a credit card for their wants. And you have to eliminate wants from life, unless their is a payment contributing to your overall success.

YOU GET WHAT YOU’RE WORTH TO US: WHY AMERICANS EARN WHAT THEY DO ON THE JOB

584.345 Printed Paper

“Do you deserve more?”

why the average

Ever wonder why the average American make the income that we do? Well, it’s complex, but also simplistic at the same time. Yes the complex part is the breakdown based on the person, the industry, the experience, the growth rate, the gender, ethnic gaps, and geographical location. But a very simple answer to why you make the money you do is based on the level of your title and your value to the organization. Your value to the organization is estimated by way of looking at how much money could they pay you by way of what you do that is of financial benefit to their company. You make $40,000, then you know what, that is your value to the company. You want more, then find a way to bring in more.

there’s got to be more

If you didn’t know any better you would think there is a catch to the whole thing. But there is no catch, looking at you and basing that off of pass performances of people in that role you are paid accordingly. And jobs know to a degree, what your input will be based off of your work. So if I give you $15 per hour, you will put in that much. Now, i I bump it to $20, you’ll work more, but there is a reason I don’t bump it. Because bumping will only make you work more because it was bumped more and not because of work satisfaction. And knowing this, here is where psychology comes into play. I know that paying someone $15, then moving it to $20 will be temporary. They will eventually get burned out with $20, and say we need $30, then $40, but what is enough. It becomes they are more dissatisfied because cost of living rises in addition to their pay. This is why you pay $15 minimum wage, then make them work on their own from there. So when you earn more, you got that bump from your own work and skill that you have to bring not a governmental initiative that focuses none on your skills. You are more of a company asset with skills.

how dare you

When you tell someone what they are worth, they are automatically on the defensive. But the reality is, you have to look at worth. Just because you feel you’re deserving of a certain pay, does not always mean you should make more. And that is a concept difficult for so many to understand, but true. We all have a value to whoever it is we’re working for, if you’re worth more, bring more into the business.

FAIL TO PLAN AND YOU PLAN TO FAIL: WHY YOU NEED DIRECTION FOR YOUR LIFE

Man Wearing Black and White Stripe Shirt Looking at White Printer Papers on the Wall

“Having a projected path.”

goals oriented

In an effort to build a sustainable career, once must plan their lives out. Does that mean your future will pan out this way, no. But the planning process will keep you on track to achieving your goals. My goals are broad because I am a storyteller. I tell a story through my writing, photography, and creative concepts. So for me, planning is very important. And if I don’t plan it is very easy to find myself in a rut. I know this because I have done things without the proper planning and it has made me feel as if I was going nowhere fast.

childish adult concepts

If you ask an adult what they truly want in this world, a lot of people cannot answer this question. They will give you broad terminology that isn’t quite direct. It’s like asking someone what they want in a relationship and they tell you, someone kind, nurturing; someone who will tend to my needs. Sounds cute when you are a teenager, but not when you are a 35 or 40 year old adult. You need a direct reason for why you are doing something or want something. You want a relationship: have an age range, ethnicity preference, religion, income status, education status, physical attraction, emotional stability. This is what matters in a relationship, so you have to know this, which is also the plans for a career. Income status, city where you want to live, how long do you plan no being a certain employment position. These are more geared questions in your life.

dreams are not goals

There is nothing wrong with having dreams in life. But your dreams have to be realistic in scope. You can dream of being an astronaut, but thinking you’re going to just go into space at the age of 25 – 30 years old is a stretch. You have to be willing to dedicate a great deal of your life to science before you step on a ship into space. So know what it takes to get to a certain point in life. Don’t look at the chosen few that made it by this weird stroke of luck. That is far from the reality of how you become a professional in your career field.
