Brown Framed Eyeglasses

“Getting in the game.”

change in times

As you have noticed over the years, brick and mortar stores continue to close. And the reason they have such a hard time lasting in today’s society is because of the internet. The internet has made doing business offline such a hard task. And the reason being, you can get the same product/service for a cheaper price. And with so many Americans financially struggling, everyone is looking for a deal. Even people with money are now looking for sales in stores. But with this time you have to ask yourself, “How does one say competitive?”

making moves

Now, in order for you to stay relevant, you need more than just a twitter and Instagram page. You need to be more involved in order to get people to come to your business. Unless you have a popular enough place that people spread around word of mouth. You should be hiring someone that will be active constantly on your social media team. You should also host events that will expand your name into the world at large. Now this is something bigger companies are already doing, but what about the small guy. They are not doing these things, but it’s also the reason they’re going out of business. No one knows they exist, they have to do more.

join em or get beat by em

If you want to see yourself succeed in this ever changing society, then get with it. Some people look at social media as a means to connect to potential customers others see it as a waste of time. But you can’t just blow it off because it’s becoming more and more important to have as a way to promote your business. So as much as you don’t want to embrace it, it’s here to stay and very crucial in your business success.

ADD TO CART-CHECKOUT-PURCHASE: HOW BRICK AND MORTAR STORES ARE BEING REMOVED FROM EXISTENCE

Person Using Black And White Smartphone and Holding Blue Card

“Shopping in this era.”

e-cart

At the age of 31, I am old enough to remember when shopping online was still considered an odd purchase. People would say, “You mean to tell me you’re using your credit card over the computer.” “How do you know someone won’t steal your information?” Now fast forward to today, we all use the internet sometimes more than the standalone stores. So what is to come of these brick and mortar stores in the future of shopping? I have worked in retail for years and have seen the results where stores are actually losing their inventory floors. And now they are forced to compact items because the cost is lower to the organization.

services

You are allowed the opportunity to bypass the entire experience having to deal with the complications of poor human service. You can look at the item, see in picture and/or video format, then make your buy. The idea of having to wait in a queuing system to be called next is a hassle. And some people will put their item back on the shelf if the line is not moving quick enough for them. They will either come back at a later time. Or try to find the item at a different store. But with all the changes that come with aiding the customer, we can’t ignore the downsides of not having a physical location to visit.

frequent concerns

The issues that arise from not having a brick or mortar business is not buying the item you saw on the internet. When images are shot on the internet they have well lit areas, showcased for the audience to see in its best light. Not always a representation  of the item you might be buying is tough considering you can’t just give it back. The time it takes to get the item sent back and get it again is way too time consuming. Most people either never use it, or give up and keep moving. And not to mention you now spend more money sending the item back and getting it again then buying the item.

out with the old embrace the new

You don’t have to like, but eventually brick and mortar stores will be showrooms. You will have to try on items and have them shipped to you. The need for having an actually store to purchase the items and walk out the store with a bag in hand is becoming irrelevant. And the retail associates jobs will be limited as well considering these showrooms don’t require much staff. So like it or not this is the change in times, so except.

OUT OF THEIR HANDS: HOW THE GOVERNMENT LOST THE INTERNET

Blue Screen of Death in Silver Black Laptop

“How it got away.”

http://www.com

Long before the average American started to use the http, the www, the dot com, the government had the internet for its own personal uses. But then as a means of opening it up, the public became aware and started our own uses. Then the one lane highway turned into a 100 lane highway on both sides of the road, with only two or three patrol cars monitoring traffic. And you probably think to yourself, how in the world do you watch so much going on? And the answer to the question is they don’t watch everything. There is way two much going on to do that considering it is not uncommon to have multiple browsers open per person on the internet. How do you watch billions of people who may have anywhere from three to nearly ten open at once.

where is it going

Something so massive, one might often think where in the hell is this machine going. Because no one owns the internet. How do you say for certain where it is headed? The only thing you can do is sit back watch how everything plays itself out. But it will go further into depths that even the ones who have been using it for years will start to unwind. Because as time progress people get used to something and then they get stuck in a way. Now it’s hard for them to understand the new trend. And for the people in the future it will be the outer net.

dark net

The steps below the internet that have been in the news in recent years and that is the outer net and the dark net. The dark net, a very bottom part of the ocean that very few people access. It is a space known having items and other services that you won’t find on traditional internet websites. On the dark net, you can find a lot more illegal activity that is way too obvious on the internet. You can buy guns, drugs, even hired hitmen on the dark net. But the dark net has become a subject for debate because of not only narcotics, but child sex trafficking. This is a main reason why the dark net has been focused on by the government.

THE ILLUSION OF HARDSHIP: ARE RACE RELATIONS WORSE OR DO WE SEE MORE NOW

adult, african american woman, business

“Bad or getting better?”

a history of segregation

For the past few centuries, America has had this relationship that still until today has gripped the country. And now you look at the landscape of America and you wonder how far have we really come. Are things better or are the worse? Do we have to continue to fight, or is there less being fed to us more often that causes the problems we have in society? Because if you are an avid user of social media, you would think that America is still this hotbed of racism. So what is the true story behind all of the agendas?

social media

If you are a daily user of the internet, you are going to constantly be inundated with a lot of crazy information. But as it pertains to this topic of race relations, we have a plethora of videos out there in the world. Anything you want to see that pertains to race you’re going to see it. And everyday, there is a video of someone fighting a social issue. One of those things is police shootings that are on videos that are posted everyday. And if you didn’t know any better, you would think America is the scariest place on Earth. Only difference between now and the past is that we didn’t see everything that took place. But what role does mass media on television play in this craziness.

the news

When watching the news, you would think that the news has their own agenda when it comes to racial relations. They love to throw out there the slightest inkling of a a racial situation. It’s a long standing issue and people will bite on the story a lot more than the run-of-the-mile story on the news. And it is because of this type of reporting that can drive people crazy. Or the fact that they don’t accurately portray the story for what happened. Almost as if the people in society need to be spoon fed little tid-bits of information.

reality

As I said before, we just see more and more than in the past. Trust and believe things were a lot worse in the past. The only difference is the exposure. We weren’t privy to a 24 hour news cycle. My mother remember channels were so few and far between that the radio was the best medium. Television was for people who had some form of financial means. Now everyone has a television or some access to news on some mobile device.

YouPay: HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE BEFORE YOUTUBE START CHARGING FOR USAGE

Related image

“You will pay, or you won’t use.”

YouTube

YouTube has been a platform for video and/or audio content since the year 2005. And over the past 13 years, it has grown in massive size. It is no longer just that content platform for just showcasing you to the world. It is now a medium for entertainment content as well. But will it ever be a place where people are charged a fee for usage?

film/television/radio

You can already upload content for people to purchase just as you would any other site. Only difference between YouTube and lets say Netflix, is that Netflix is a lot more selective. You have to have a following for your content. And then they will take a risk on investing in you. But with YouTube, you can sell directly to consumers, where YouTube takes a cut.

And if you decide to stream for free, understand that streaming dollars are very small for the person who is capitalizing. Still, what are the opportunities if YouTube decides to change up the game and start charging and being selective.

subscriptions

Right now, the majority of people you subscribe to on their channel, you can see their content for free. But this could also be a change to the site. Because YouTube may not charge the users, but the people who want a channel. Then, that would mean, the channel owners have to now charge for people to see their content. This would cut down on people uploading property not their own like song lyrics with the videos.

could it be

Then again, what if the people who use YouTube start to reject the new method. Then you would have this wide open market for people looking elsewhere. Or, the other decision is people paying because they want to use it so bad. Then again, some new young budding entrepreneur could use this as an opportunity to start their own new YouTube.

A DYING MEDIUM: HOW THEATERS ARE BECOMING A PAST PLACE TO WATCH MOVIES

Image result for abandoned CINEMA

“The intimate has become less intimate.”

the experience

In the past, when people would venture to the movie theater, it was more than just watching a film. The entire experience surrounding it was an event of its own. We have watched the theater go from a black and white projection screens to a multinational companies with high definition screens. But another experience is taking over, and that is the internet/at home experience.

from the comforts of your couch

Today, people have more of a reason to be a couch potato than any other time period in history. Why, well it’s because the idea of watching everything from a device in your hand. There is no need to go to theaters Image result for movie deviceanymore. As a matter of fact, you can elect to  pay more money and watch the movie from home before it leaves theaters.

not just for the wealthy

Image result for luxury home theaters

There used to be the days where only the rich could own their own home movie theaters as you can see from the photo above. In the past if someone told you they had a home cinema, you thought they were extremely wealthy. But now, there average Joe, thanks to YouTube tutorials and other helpful tools are building their own home theaters as seen in video below.

This video below of a YouTuber Jonathan Danforth building himself a home theater system. It is a 14 stage process he took to building it. Watch all his videos and enjoy.

what is to come for the future

In the future, theater companies will have to adapt the same way everyone else has adapted. Making money in theaters are becoming harder and harder to accomplish. It’s the reason the superhero craze has taken hold. But eventually we’ll get tired of that craze, and then the studios and theater companies are in trouble. Because going to the theater is not enjoyable anymore.

WHOSE IN CHARGE: WHO DICTATES WHERE THE CULTURE GOES?

Related image

“We are in charge, but still let others make decisions.”

moving it forward

In America, every generation has something that defines who they are: Baby Boomers Rock N’ Roll, Generation X had television sitcoms and music as well that shaped them, and here we have Millennials that are now being shaped. But not mainly by the music, but by the social and the political landscape of the country. But I what I want to know is who is in charge of the culture that we push forward. Is it the people or is it something in the mass media and telecommunications? Because even though the people choose what they love, we don’t always choose what we see either.

television news outlets

Related image

The initial deciding factors in people getting their information is through the medium of our television news networks. And nothing has been more powerful than the news outlets. The newspaper has gone strong, but the television gets it to us immediately. And we have depended upon them for the longest to push information out to us. So with that said, do they drive the culture? Because the big networks have been battling because of politics: CNN and FOX News. And whatever they feed to society, people tend to bite and run with that information. Yet there are other deciding factors in driving the culture.

social media

Image result for social media

This is now a major driver of the culture in today’s society. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Google, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and many others. As a matter of fact, to a large degree, one of the main reasons the former President of United States Barack Obama was elected was because of campaign pushes via social media. Young people became so engaged in both elections that now leaders in this country as well as outside are engaging on social media. So you can say that social media pushes the culture forward.

we the people

People Silhouette during Sunset

So, here we are at who really pushes the culture forward. We the people push the culture forward, but have allowed the mediums to feed us so much throughout our lives. We now have become our own journalists, and our own musicians, and our own filmmakers. We self-publish and we self sustain because we have the resources now to do so. But as with all the good that takes place, there is an ugliness to the culture as well that the people push. We have become language police and the sensitivity is at an all time high. Now, a lot of that comes from the reprehensible past that people have dealt with. But by correcting it, we overkill making up for it. Yet, as with this shift in culture, what does the future look like with the next generation?
