OUR CULTURE IS POP CULTURE: THE REAL FACE OF AMERICA

who we are

For anyone interested in knowing what the culture of America is, then I will tell you. This is a pop culture country, considering we have so many different ethnic groups in this country. With each, people bring their own style which contributes to the pop culture of the nation. Some may see that is an uncomfortable reality because all pop means is popular. People don’t want their culture sometimes to be seen as the pop thing because pop goes in and out of style. And culture of a group should not be seen as a style for many to use then throw away. But I guess that is the downsides of living in such a diverse nation.

song-dance-dress

In this country, we have such a strong identity via the music we listen to, the way we dress, and the dances that correlate with the music. We have even influenced the world with the music and the way we dress. Why, well we as Americans have always set the tone for what is cool in society. Other countries have their idea and perception of cool, but with so many different groups in America, if you have been cool here you are big everywhere.

anyone can be anything

In how many other countries can you see a musician become a world leader? Or better yet, a television personality who became president of the country? America is a country where this happens and we think nothing about it. In other countries, a leader has to hold positions for lengthy periods of time in public office. We as Americans will feel an attachment to a celebrity and think they should lead. But that is also a good thing about living in this country. You can always continue to reinvent yourself. And for someone like me living in New York City, you can be what you want everyday. And rarely see the same two people twice.

MY VOTE MY DEMISE: ARE WE TOO SERIOUS ABOUT OUR POLITICS

I Voted Sticker Lot

“In a Democratic Republic.”

who really cares

Ever since the United State President elect Donald J. Trump came to office this country has been at odds. People are going as far as cutting off their own family for their political affiliation. But the main issue that I have is not who you voted for, but why are people so invested in each others political views. We, for some reason have to be so in tuned with the reasons why someone voted. We act as if the people who are doing the voting are also making the country’s decisions. When in reality, even the people they elect are not going to be doing as much as we think they are while in power. So what is the real reason we have so much vested interest?

on my side or your side

In America you are either Democrat or Republican in this country. And if you don’t have a political affiliation then people accuse you of straddling the fence. But when you fall on the side of one of the parties then you stand a chance of upsetting someone. For me, I am more liberal then conservative, but not by much. I am about 55% liberal and 45% conservative; which makes me very moderate in this country. But for most people in America today they are either 80% or 90% on one side over the other. And they have this prevailing theory that if you are not in my party then you are against me. And in a country where we are supposed to be celebrating the freedom to choose, we are targeting people for their political party options.

it should be free

Our politics should be our free way of expression but for some reason it has changed. And the current president has caused so many people to split and choose sides. But what if he wins twice? Does that mean that more and more people are going to split and choose sides? Who knows, we will have to wait until 2020 to see how things pan out.

I DO IT FOR THE CULTURE

“What a time to be alive.”

2 months of intrigue

These are the months that I have waiting for my blog. This is where we will analyze culture for the months of September and October. And when I say the word culture, there are many different forms of culture. There is the ethnic culture, and then there are the social cultural influences that affect our lives. And the social/political have been the biggest. Especially considering in the next four months we are heading for another presidential election cycle. So our culture in America is very broad and ambiguous. But I am not just going to limit it to America, I have some things overseas in foreign countries that are of intrigue as well. So enjoy and continue to support the site.

NO THOUGHT: HOW COLLEGES NO LONGER ENCOURAGE FREE SPEECH

People Wearing Backpacks

“We used to love it.”

free speech space

Ever remember when college universities used to be places for you to harness thoughts of people that are different from yourself? Now these places of higher learning have become campuses for constantly getting you into trouble for having opposing views. Why have things changed so much on our campuses as oppose to the past? Why have our young people become so sensitive to the idea that someone may have a view that is not their own on the other side? We like to say things like, the power has shifted in the country and we also say that the media is effecting the information we receive. But the examples are only for speculation. We really don’t know for certain why things have really changed. It was something gradual that happened over time.

you’re cancelled

What is it with a generation of young people that want to cancel anyone that has a difference of opinion. This has been a cultural phenomena that has swept the nation in recent history. You have the right to say what you want and I have the right to protest it. Which ultimately means you don’t have the right to say it. And where has it come from is beyond me. Just because we don’t like something it doesn’t mean it is worthy of a protest. But nowhere is this more evident than on college campuses. A place where you are supposed to come in contact with people of varying backgrounds differences of opinion. But for some reason this younger age group want nothing to do with those that are oppose to their viewpoints.

won’t ever swing back

People always talking about how the pendulum might swing back in the opposite direction. Only problem is, that won’t happen for a view reasons. One the people on the opposite side have to be more tolerant than the younger ones, which won’t happen. But the other reason is that now that we have social media where you can openly chastise people no one want to be considered the shamed. Because who want to lose their job and be ousted publicly. So people don’t involve themselves.

CLASS: THE NEW RACISM

Image result for classism

“Society’s transformation.”

the new injustice

As a young man growing up in the Midwest you got a chance to see something that was quite interesting. And that was the disparity in society regarding the wealth in America. In the majority of minority communities there was poverty and then you had the predominantly White communities. This is where all the wealth was centralized. And as I aged I got a chance to see kids I went to school with, which was mostly White students who came from poor households. Then it hit me, who has the money in America if so many White families are struggling. Because the wealth is growing in the White community, but a lot of White families were poor. Yet the money wasn’t being trickled down to Blacks or Latinos.

numbers and the meanings behind them

When you hear the ethnic group and then look at the stat, you have to ask yourself, what does this really mean? Because if White wealth is growing, Black wealth is actually decreasing in the community, Latino wealth not much growth, and Asian growth is growing, but the numbers are still small; how is it White wealth is growing with a growing poor population. It seems to me like the same families that have amassed wealth money is growing at an increasing rate. Black people are being pushed out, Latino numbers are rising, but wealth is in White hands. What you’re seeing is a rich-poor nation. And when you hear Trump supporters, who are mostly White saying, “Make America Great Again,” they are not realizing their pockets are shrinking from other wealthier White hands.

as we trek along

Moving into the future the face of America is changing, which means the problems will still exist. Only thing is, what will they be. And with the pushing out of communities, you’re talking a cultural clash, a divide, but most of all, class will be a serious war. Because we are already starting to see people fight over who has the right to make what amount of money in a year. And who deserves to make what income. Trust and believe it will head into the future, even by 2050 when so many of Americans are slated to look similar in facial tone.

NEW INTRUDERS: WHY WE ARE OPPOSING TO NEW NORMS

Related image

“The new, new.”

the introduction of

America is a society where we are quite apprehensive to change in the beginning stages of anything new. But then enough time goes by and we start to have a push back once we see people’s lives affected. And that is when he change starts to happen. We don’t notice it because we are living in real time, but after 50 years or even 100 years it all makes sense. Then we look back and say to ourselves, “I can’t believe people use to fight over that type of stuff.” But real time, we tend to fight over everything. Why are we so aggressive when it comes to introducing new norms into our world? A lot of it has to do with a status quo. We are a status quo species.

easy peezy

Once there is a way of life that one is used to living, then we go, ok this makes sense. But the problem is, there will always be a disenfranchised group of people. We look at them initially and say, really, come on, we’re going to introduce this into society. We are used to things going well with the way they are now. So why must things change. Now I have to get used to a whole new way of life. It becomes stressful o have to go through all this. Especially if you are older and used to the way life is as you know it. The new way now means everything you once knew in your life means nothing anymore. And if you are 20 years old that’s fine, but what about 50 years old? That can be a major culture shock.

get over it, you can’t stop it

Hey people, you want to stop things from happening, you fight, well guess what, get over it. You will have a hard time keeping things the same as generations continue to change. So you will either be forced to change or be weened out of existence. Understand that things are changing and you have no control. So you can fight and watch yourself push back or you can learn to adjust.

FUTURE OF OUR INSTITUTIONS: WHAT WILL COME OF THEM

People Walking on Wooden Floor Inside Green Walled Building

“What will be in them in the future?”

a house of history

As an employee of a museum, I often walk around and think to myself, “What will this museum hold in the year 2100?” What about 2200, if it’s still around? And the crazy thing about history is that the Atari and Nintendo will be in the museums in the year 2200. That is shocking that something like our video games could be housed in the museums of the future because they are such a major aspect of the cultural layout of America. Then there is the idea that these museums might not even be in existence in the future. Well, in existence like the way we know them as today. Museums could be something totally different so much so that they could be fun or boring.

what’s of the old old world

As you visit the museums today,  what will happen to the art that is there now, that must be moved aside for the new material? Some may be housed in the basements but others could be shipped to other museums around the world. I don’t see the art being destroyed, we just may never see it again. Museums have been a part of our lives for centuries, if not a few thousand years. And there are still artifacts that are still being uncovered in the world today. But there will come a time where material must be moved for the new found items. Only a chosen few can stand around and not be removed. The Egyptian and Roman culture is and will be standing in museums for hundreds of more years. But items like paintings, especially the less popular ones will be hidden away beneath the ground in basements wrapped and preserved.

expansion would help a lot

In order to maintain some of these museums, we must not only visit them more, but also we have to expand them. The expansion would mean a lot for the museum as well. More and more land is being preserved so people have to figure out ways to expand, but not to overstep the boundary of going into to a preserved environment
