NO WORK DURING QUARATINE

“Where do I turn?”

THE MELTDOWN

The recent outbreak of the Corona Virus stemming from a small local marketplace in Wuhan China has put the world on lockdown. And as a citizen of New York City, this city has been the hardest in America. And with that, has come a wave of unemployment. It has now left people from all over the country wondering what to do now. Because I know for me, I still have a job. But so so many that’s not the case. I have never been in this position so it’s kind of a no man’s land. And for most people this is a new reality. So, let’s go through the steps to being able to get yourself through this troubling time? The first step is to apply for unemployment.

UNEMPLOYMENT UNDER COVID-19

In order to apply for unemployment, there are a number of steps to go through when filing. The first step is to go to the Department of Labor and sign up for an account. You will have temporary password sent to your email account. Sign into your account and then you’ll be prompted to create a new password. Once into the account tou created, understand that you have a specific time period to call or file. That is based off of your last name which means you call corresponding to that date. For example, my last name is a J, that means I call on Tuesday. So when you call, be prepared to wait a while.

BE PRECISE WITH INCOME

You have to know before calling how much time you work and the amount of money you make in a two week span. This is important because then they’ll be able to calculate what your unemployment can be. Now, they will look into you, and if you’re off, the process takes longer. So be open and honest up front so the process goes a little smoother. And if you manage to go through the process and get unemployment, remember it’s only 55% at most of your income. This is not meant for you to be unemployed. This is why the percent gets cut in half. It’s to encourage working. Now, this situation is difficult because the government shut down the country. This forced people to lose jobs. So it’s no fault of the unemployed. Yet, the percentage still stands.

A WHOLE NEW WORLD

Americans have not experienecd this much lost since 2008 when the economic recession forced out of work and out of their homes. Only this time it’s at no fault of the people. And the help which people will get is minimal and one time only. Now, the market go back to its original point, yes. It may take a year or more. The nation will return to success. But for now it’s going to be a struggle.

NO PAY, LOW PAY

Coins Inside Jar

“Experience first, money second.”

THE EARLY DAYS

When you first start out in your career, you are going to have to realize the pay is low. And some work you might get is going to be for no pay. This is where so many young people give up and quit. I mean think about it, who want to get up each and everyday to go to a job that pays no money. But the reality is that you need the experience early in your 20’s in order to move forward. For example I worked for a retail and the start out managers earn a small income, but the volume of running the store was a major task. So the pay was low, but the ability to manage a large team helps push you over the top.

BE HUMBLE

So many young people have this in mind thing about them. I deserve more but I don’t know much. Well guess what, you have to pay your dues. You have to get in and gain experience in order to keep moving along. But most have a hard time moving forward because they have this mind-frame early on. I have worked for internships that didn’t pay, and others where pay was so low, it should have been for free. But what you have to be is grateful for the opportunity and learn as much as you can. These are not the years to make the most money. The time will come if you set yourself up for the challenge.

MIND FIELD

As you navigate your early career life, you will have these feelings of doubt and hurt. You want to have and do what everyone else is doing. Their life sometimes look greater than it is, and you start to feel depressed. And this is the mind game that you start to play with yourself as you grow your career. And a lot of times you don’t see things moving in the paradigm of building. It does not formulate until the work has been done. But when you reach the level you want, more work goes into it to hold on to it.

MAKE YOUR MONEY WORK FOR YOU

Person Holding 100 Us Dollar Banknotes

“Respect it as you make it.”

EARN WITH REGARD

As you earn money, make sure to put some away for when you may really need your income. And this means that you job is not guaranteed, so who knows what may happen. You need some rainy day money just in case something bad happens. Another reason to put money away is to make it work for you eventually. This means to invest in some type of engine that will render a good return on your money. But not all people have the income to do so, or do we. Because when you look at what you spend your money on throughout the year, you see that most people have it. They just don’t do a really good job at managing their income.

MANAGE IT WELL

If you don’t know how to manage money, then you better start learning how to do so. Especially if you want to have a family one day. Then need to make use of your money in a responsible way is going to be crucial in your success not just in your career but as a spouse and parent. You also don’t know the important things that will come up along the way. And you don’t want to be known as one of those people who have a disrespect for money.

YIELDS NOT INCOME

You are supposed to use the rule of thumb that is let your invest yields pay for the things you want in this world not your income. So if you want all these things that cost a lot of money invest and buy that way. But see, the investment is long term and people want it now. And if you have a now mind-frame then you are setting yourself up for problems. Because to make the money work your way you have to build over time.

MAKING IT IN LIFE

Close Up Photo of a Person Wearing Suit Jacket

“What’s it all mean?

I’VE ARRIVED

People can’t wait until they get to a certain point in life then they look and say I have made it or arrived. But then you have to ask yourself, what does it mean by making it life? Because we automatically look at someone who makes money¬† as a symbol of where we want to be and how big we aspire to be. But looking at someone else’s life can be disatrous because we don’t know how they became so successful. We can look at their blueprint, but you should be weary of following another person’s actions move for move. It worked for them, not quite for you.

MEANINGS BEHIND INTENT

What is the real meaning behind the words. Because that is way more important than anything. In America, we always put the meaning for making it in the country as someone who has a certain level of income. But a school teacher might be a person living their dream and they are far from people making a lot of money. But in the same breathe you have celebrities taking their own lives even with so much money. So understand why you’re building and what it means to you.

COMPARED TO THOSE AROUND YOU

When you look at the peers of people around you, you have a tendency to stack yourself against others. And how could you not because who you associate yourself with says a lot about yourself. So you can’t be around winners and not be a winner yourself. It will either rub off on you or you will fall out the group. But you should never see yourself as not successful if you are doing something in life that is not as lucrative, as long as it has meaning behind it.

NO COLLEGE CAREER

People Wearing Backpacks

“Why sit in class all day?”

DO YOU NEED IT REALLY

Going to college you have all these ideas about what life is going to be once you graduate undergraduate school. You think that life is going to be so cut clean and dry when it comes to finding employment. But what you don’t realize is that your college degree is a small aspect of the overall success of a person’s career. Now that I have embarked on my career journey I am looking at life going, why did I go to college? Because there are people who go to school for photography or filmmaking, but you really don’t need to do so. As a matter of fact, you can actually pay less for the equipment and getting yourself started versus going to school. We also have enough videos out there and books to self educate.

SPECIALIZED STILL NEED SCHOOL

There are careers that still need a degree to obtain the role. And those are usually jobs where you have to get into the medical fields like surgeons. This is because someone’s life is in your hands. So for that reason, you have to be in school, usually for a long period of time. But is medicine the only type of career you need to go to school for, no attorneys in most states. That is because the extensive training is necessary when dealing with the outcome of people’s lives.

OPEN MARKET

In this new improved society we are able to have careers that don’t always need degrees. You can put yourself in the know and build a life today. So a lot of young people have been thinking twice about going to college. That, or they are going to smaller schools that require less money to pay back and are living at home.

CAREER DAY: BRING IT BACK TO SCHOOLS

Two Girls Doing School Works

“Teach them young.”

EDUCATIONAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

We always used to pride ourselves in schools on aiding children choose a career in school which will contribute to their overall success. And that is when we used to have career day in school. Not that much is talked about the career in the lives of small children. We teach them how to write their names in cursive, their alphabet, and then a little math. But the scary thing we don’t show them is all the opportunities they have to succeed in life. Schools provide children with the bare minimum, and then after that it is the parent’s job to do the rest. And I guess that’s the price you pay for free education.

THEIR SKILLS

When in school it is the job of the school to try to find out the things that the student knows how to do. We don’t have in school a multitude of creative endeavors for kids to do so we can see what they can do. I would really like for the schools to have a class dedicated to trying to figure out likes and dislikes. But this is left up to the parents, and part of it is the parents. But if that’s becoming the case, will there ever come a time when parents stop sending their children to school at a certain point. And that will mean specialized teachers not in school teachers.

LATER REALIZED

So many young people don’t realized what they are good at until later into their adulthood. So to introduce it into school can be seen as somewhat of a distraction and waste of time. And not to mention the amount of finances that must be allocated to trying to fund this type of learning. So for now, it is the job of the parent/s to do so.

BRING YOUR KID TO WORK DAY

Woman Together With Children Holding Laptop Computer

“They’ll learn a lot.”

WHEN IT WAS OK

When I was growing up as a child, there was something called take your daughter to work day. And it was done to promote women in the workforce; to show girls what their mother did everyday. And eventually it turned into take your child to work day. But today, you don’t hear much about it; some places have even removed it fully. And that is because there is this idea that we must promote working for boys and girls. Yet we still don’t allow kids to go to see where their parents work. I don’t know if it’s because parents don’t see as what they do as interesting. Or if workplaces don’t want parents to have their children on the job for liability concerns.

TIMES HAVE CHANGED

Like I said in the passage prior, we don’t take our children to work anymore. And I don’t know why it stopped so much. People are so politically correct today that it can be seen as a problem. Like I also said before liabilities. No workplace want a kid at the place and potentially get hurt. You get sued because a kid wants an adult experience, no way.¬† Another reason is because people felt there were beginning to be more opportunities for girls to experience a workplace.

ALTERNATIVES

With the way social media is designed today, there are so many opportunities to have girls be apart of programs. So you really don’t need to take a daughter or any child to work.
