YOU DESERVE IT PROVE IT: NOTHING IN A CAREER IS GIVEN

Follow Simon Sinek

wanting more of a career

I deserve to be in a certain position, but are you willing to do what it takes to put yourself in that place of success. So many people want to be in this place they call success, but they come at night and sit in front of the television. And nowhere is it more evident than in the generation we see now. And a lot of it has to do with this view of our social media accounts where everything is right there in in front of us. We can see it and it’s close enough to touch. But then, when it comes to work, you say, put in the 10 – 15 years, and people look at you like what did you say. But that’s the time you must be wiling to put into your career.

post, like, follow

I recently checked my Instagram and saw that I had likes pertaining to some of my posts. Then I realized that I am in pursuit of a career in writing and photography wondering why nothing is happening. It’s because getting better at these crafts take a lot of time and a continuation of learning. but the posting of photos on Instagram and waiting for the likes can really hold you back. Because you might post something and say, man that was good. How come more people didn’t jump on to the wave. Well, you need to build a lot more and longer. But also, create outside the social landscape with people to expand your name. That is what a career is about, going beyond just the title of your duty and seeking validation from a group of outsiders that know nothing you do.

nothing is given

You want something in this world, you go get it. This idea that somehow, you’re going to get it because you feel entitled to it is not real. Understand that no one “deserves” anything worth having in life. That is something you must be willing to put time and effort into. You feel you deserve go prove yourself.

INVEST IN YOUR FUTURE: PUTTING UP DOLLARS TO BUILD YOUR DREAM

Finance Sketch Near Laptop Computer

“Put your money where your mouth is.”

put up

A lot of times when we need to build our careers, it takes financing. Financing that the average person does not have in their pockets. So what do you do when you need the money to get started. For me, I have an interest in filmmaking, writing, and photography. So my initial investment in writing is cheaper than filmmaking and photography. Filmmaking and photography are both expensive, so you have to start with small investments. Or, you could try saving up over a long period of time. Then again, there is the reaching out to family and friends, or trying to crowd fund, or trying to get grant money, or a loan, or contest. So as you can see, you have to look under every rock for resources.

how to start

Everyone needs to have a start in life. For me I started writing at the age of 23 years old. I am now 7 years into the writing experience of the novel and screenwriting process. I started filmmaking at the age of 26 and photography in the past 1 year. I started writing with Microsoft word on the school’s computers and eventually bought myself a laptop. But raised funding for my short film through Indiegogo website. I also just so happen had a refund from grad school and bought a starter camera. Since then I bought a prime lens. And now I am taking more and more photos while also writing my first book and self-publishing it.

next step

From the previous passage, you have to now take it a step further by growing your audience in whatever it is you’re doing. For me, I have my social media platforms that I have invested a lot of time and energy. And yet, it is still a work in progress. This is a growth stage that seems to be going nowhere, because in the paradigm there is no movement. You are up and then back down. But over time you start to see the results. Results that typically take years to accomplish.

living life is more important

The reason so many can’t save money is not because of bills. But it’s actually because they want to live their lives. People want new clothes, a car note, and date. And who can blame them, but you now have to be willing to sacrifice your dreams. Because in the building stages, there is no room for both. You have to put these types of things on hold for something much greater.

REALISTIC GOALS: ARE YOU BEING PRACTICAL ABOUT YOUR GOALS IN LIFE

blank, card, earphones

“Big dreams must be in focus.”

dreaming big

We all have these visions of doing all these great things in life. But we have to be practical and think in scope of reality. You have to understand the fight along the way as well as understanding your own capabilities. If you don’t, then you’re going to find yourself with no real direction. And your vision will only remain just that, a vision. Goals have to be looked at through a lens that is honest, yet very few can do that. We all think the way we think is grand and wonderful. But those that succeed acknowledge they are not good and work to be better. So how should you look at your life in scope of reality?

start small

You want to be a top fashion designer, then you have to have a start. Go to a reputable fashion institute, but the entire time you should take on internships. Also, create pieces (clothes, shoes, purses, etc.) while in school to showcase your craft. Once school ends, then you might want to consider working for a fashion house if not working for yourself. Either way, be prepared to put in years. Donna Karan, creator of DKNY didn’t see fashion week for 15 years. Now DKNY is a major brand, but you’re talking over 20 plus years of continuous work. And here is where the problem lies, the time out into the job.

time time time

Here is where so many people fall short. The time one must put into their work to make themselves pop into something great. They think of life as this microwave ready dinner you eat in 30 minutes. Because who really want to stand over a stove and prepare a meal over the next few hours. And the real reason we think things should happen overnight is because we live in such a right now society. If we don’t get a promotion after 6 months on the job, we think the time put into our work was a waste. But what you don’t realize is that 7-10 years on the job is considered overnight success. So a lot of people don’t hit their success mark because they are not fully dedicated.

LIMITED INTEREST: WHAT TO PURSUE WHEN YOU LACK SKILLS

design, desk, display

“I wish I had the it.”

finding talent

All of us have some sort of hidden talent whether we know it or not. And it’s all about unlocking that skill. Now most people will go to work everyday, and never realize their skill. So what do you do when you have limited interest and you have limited skills to become successful in life. You want to do all these great things, but you don’t which way to turn or how to get there. That’s why it’s good to prepare and start off when you’re young, so this doesn’t trail you all through life.

try things

Before I chose to pursue writing as a career interest and now photography, I tried other things. You have to try law, engineering, science, and even general business. And when I say try, I mean you don’t have to dive in full force. There are aspects about each that I looked at and said, “no, this doesn’t fit.” Then I started to write and realized I liked writing screenplays and books. I realized I like photography and filmmaking. And that liking became a career pursuit. So you have to be willing to put yourself in harms way to allow things to formulate.

get a job

Work until you figure something out. But while in the work, try not to get discouraged by the daily grind. Because after all, you have to survive in the world. We have goals and dreams and passions. But you must live from day to day. Just don’t get distracted by the day to day life. Everything becomes so routine that you don’t even think about living anymore. So the days turn to weeks, then months, and before you know it years have gone. And through it all, you still haven’t found your passion.

END OF YEAR REFLECTION: WHERE ARE YOU AND WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE

Image result for REFLECTING

“What will come of the future?”

There are 13 days left until the beginning of the new year. And with all that has taken place this year, as always, we must take time to reflect on where we are in our lives. The end of of the year makes you look overall at what you may have accomplished, and if everything is all right in the world, then the year was a success. But what happens if the year wasn’t as eventful as you would have liked it to be? That would mean you must make the appropriate adjustments so that the following year is more than the previous. One of the things I have decided to do concerning my writing is to create better content that I put into the world to build my platform. I am also trying to work to be more self employed, as well as stepping up my writing ability so I can prepare for my next novel and book of short stories books to be released hopefully by the beginning of the year 2019.

See, I have a goal that I have been pursuing year after year. Now what shall one do when there is nothing that the person is feeling their time with to progress forward. What will happen is that you will find yourself stuck in a rut without a plan, and then depression sets in. Then you will become unhappy because the world is moving around, while you sit aside watching everyone else live their lives. And the last thing you want is to find yourself not being able to progess forward. Now if you are moving forward, sometimes you may feel like you’re not making progress because in the paradigm of life, everything is kind of slow. You only are seeing small minor spikes of success that lead to something bigger later on. If you’re not careful this can also make people get down on themselves when trying to persevere. Because we live in such an instant society, you can feel discouraged when life is not moving fast enough.

Yet, if you are reflecting on the time and energy you put into something and you’re making the appropriate strides to be where you’re trying to be in life, then it’s worth the wait. My main goal in life is a career as a photographer, filmmaker, and writer (author, screenwriting, playwright). These are very long arduous paths that requires a lot of skill and patience to succeed. Because in the end, you must be willing to suffer to get to where you want to be in life. The path of success and the reflection on everything you have accomplished and hopefully will accomplish comes with due diligence. Nothing is overnight, and with each passing year, if every reflection is a look over time and you’re happy, then you’ve done your job.

LEVEL TO LEVEL: HOW GOING FROM ONE SOCIOECONOMIC POSITION TO ANOTHER FORCES A NEW PERCEPTION

Related image

“Once you know better, you do better.”

I come from a socioeconomic environment known as the working poor. And I have been in his space for my entire life. But in the recent years, I have been working to remove myself form this space of poverty. And what does that mean, it simply means changing your perception in how you see the world around you. Once that perception changes about the world, new opportunities open up to you. Now in the beginning, it may seem like you’re not making any strides. But rest assured, if you’re putting in the time and energy necessary for the climb, then you are in position to do better in life. You are in position to do better financially, physically, and spiritually. Yet, what is it about people that never leave their position and why must you change the way you see the world? People not leaving their position has to do with a state of mind, but why you must change your perception has to do with understanding the repercussions of your actions.

What do I mean by the consequences of my actions? Well, once you cross over into the new socioeconomic environment, you have no choice but to shift your perception. And there is a reason, it’s because you had to shift your perception before getting to this new point. So if you grew up poor, you had no choice but to change to become Middle Class and stay in the middle. Now, here is the bit of hole in the logic I just stated. You have to shift your mind to make more money, not really. Because you have lottery winners, athletes, and entertainers. Now the lotto winner won by luck, but there had to be some form of shift to be great athletes and entertainers, but the monetary build really falls by the waist side. So when they make a lot of money, they go broke quicker than it took to get the money. Because they fail to put themselves in the know to shift their perception on money.

Now once you go from Middle Class to Upper Class, you have to really structure your mind. The way I see it, it’s like crossing a bridge. The poor person says, “I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.” The person in the middle says, “I’ll plan for that bridge, even if it’s there, I still plan in case it’s not present.” And lastly, the man or woman that is rich are the ones building the bridges everyone beneath them are going to have to cross. So when you are making wealth for yourself, taking business advice from someone who is poor may not be the best decision to make in life. Because if were as simple as they think it is to make money, they wouldn’t be poor. They might say it’s because they don’t have money, and that statement explains why they’re poor. You don’t need money if you have great ideas that have value. You’ll get the money if you have something that can make money. Why, someone will invest in you.

And in the end, we have to shift our perceptions anyways with regards to the world around us. People who don’t, possess a lack of growth in their lives. That lack of growth will quickly turn into self-loathing and depression. Next, they’ll start to reject the people around them who have went off into life and planned. Remove yourself from these people because they mean you no good.

LIFE’S PREPARATIONS: WHY FINDING YOUR WAY IS SO HARD IN THE WORLD

Image result for preparation

“Ready, set, take on life!”

You go through elementary school, go through middle school, graduate high school, and then graduate college. And once you have complete school, you step into the world and, nothing. Just like that, you graduate on a Sunday and nothing on that Monday morning. That pot of gold that everyone has been telling you about as it pertains to attaining a college education is false. You sit at home in your parent’s house thinking to yourself, “Where should I turn next?” “What is going to be my next move?” “And if I move, how do I find my way from that point on?” That is why it is important to prepare in life for your next move you’re going to make in life. It doesn’t guarantee your plan will work, but at least you have something to keep you on track. But what is it about life that makes things difficult to find your way.

When navigating this terrain called life, you most often receive your initial life training from your parents. They are supposed to provide you with a basic template for where you should be headed in life. Your trajectory comes from them which involves going to school, getting a good job, and starting a family. Yet it’s not quite that simple when you step into the world. Your parents know what’s good for you before you leave the house, but only you know what’s good for you overall in life. So as much as parents think they know, they don’t know your strengths, weaknesses, what motivates you, and what doesn’t motivate you. All of that comes from you as that person. Even after you graduate college, the degree is the icing on the cake toward your success, as I have stated in previous posts. Everything that goes into making that cake comes from you.

So if you want to make that cake that is you being successful, where do you start? Because a cake is a mixture of different ingredients placed in a pan and put in the oven. So what I am saying what constitutes for the flour, corn meal if needed, sugar, butter, will you need crust because instead of a cake you’re making a pie. But wait a minute now, there are some unique cakes that are made with pie crust. Then conversely, can you make a pie cake? As you can see there are so many options to choose from, but the road to making that cake is up to you. Here is something interesting about learning to make a cake. Initially, you’re going to screw up on so many of the cakes you bake. Your first five to ten cakes might turn out to be shit. You have to throw them in the garbage and start out fresh. And it is the failure that terrifies people when navigating through life.

Only baking a cake is easy failure to deal with, yet it is the same path you have to take in life to being good at your career endeavor. We look on and mesmerize at how the person who we look up to are living their lives. But we are only looking at the finished product; we don’t see the whole process. The process that took years to get to this point. I remember hearing Kevin Hart make a statement about how he has only been really making hits for the past four or five years. And you think about that, he has been around for eighteen or nineteen years. But Kevin was on the comedy circuit building himself a name. We only see the highest paid comedian, but we don’t see when he was barely surviving in Philadelphia or Los Angeles. In the end, success is hard to attain because it’s like crossing an alligator swamp with no boat. You have to swim across, and to get to the other side of the swamp, you’re going to have scares of battling gators. And everyone wants to get across with no gator scares, but that’s not possible.
