HOW TO INVEST WHEN COMING FROM POVERTY

Person Holding Coins

“Where do I start?”

from the bottom

For those of us who grew up poor, once you decide to embark on a journey in your career, you have to think about something. How you will invest your money once you start making good money. Because when you come from the bottom you really don’t quit understand what it means to save or invest your money. You have an idea of what it takes to invest money, but you don’t know. Yes, there is always the stock exchange, but other than that, nothing else really. And even if you get into the exchange, it’s best to invest money a little at a time.

read and learn

You have to read a lot of books and conduct a lot of research. This is no guarantee you’ll know what you’re talking about, but it will allow you to get a chance to start understanding how to develop an eye for a good investment. Now, from time to time you could be wrong, but remember if you have any doubt hold off. It’s better to miss out on an opportunity than to invest and you’re no sure on where to put your money or how to place your money.

taking l’s is not the end

No one wants to lose especially when it comes to money. We all want to be the Peter Thiel who can grab hold of great investments in their investing career. But that is not the case for. most people. But rest assured, I’m sure Thiel has taken some hits over the years. You can’t become a billionaire and not lose at some point in time. Just as long as the loses that you take are not greater than the wins. Meaning, you can easily lose 9 times at an value of $100 each. But if you hit $1,000 on that 10th try, you are now up $100. And that’s hoe it works, but you have to be willing to stick in there for the long haul.

REMOTE LEARNING: HOW WOULD PARENTS FEEL ABOUT THEIR CHILDREN LEARNING FROM HOME

Photo of Woman Using Her Laptop

“Far too impersonal.”

at home

Parents in the past who home-schooled their children were seen as revolutionaries. But in today’s society, especially with the school shooting across the country, maybe more parents may want to consider home-schooling. But the traditional home-schooling is different than what I am thinking about. I am referring to a more remote classroom where the teacher is not physically at the school. More so, the teacher is at home, and the kid is in front of their computer at home. They communicate via web cam, and it would create a more digital means of learning. With no books and a paperless form of learning.

access to technology

When trying to create something this remote, you will need to make sure students are able to bring themselves near a computer. And not everyone has a computer, and those that do, don’t have reliable methods of learning in this new capacity. So what would happen is that those kids could see themselves, at no fault of their own, lag behind even worse than in the classroom. Because now you’re talking reliable internet access. Where even some of your best students could be negatively effected by such a move in education. Which leads into the next paragraph.

communication breakdown

As for the communication, there are a few issues that occur from the remote learning. When inside of a classroom, you are able to look into the students eyes and connect to them whereas you cant’s through a computer. But the main reason kids come to school, is where they start to develop means conflict resolution and dealing with others different themselves. You also have communication issues via the technology that will make it impossible for the teacher to do their jobs. So as for now, we will stick to the more traditional method. And that is sending your children off to school each and everyday.

DISADVANTAGE EDUCATION: WHAT SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT KIDS LIVING IN AREAS OF POOR EDUCATION

building, ceiling, classroom

“Poor at no fault of their own.”

poverty stricken

For myself, growing up in a poor community, I could have easily fell victim to the poor education crisis most major cities fall victim to. But since I was from a small city where kids of all economic backgrounds went to school, that wasn’t the case. But now that I live in New York City, I see the issues with kids living in poorer neighborhoods and the education gap with them versus middle class or even upper middle class. The children born poor, at no fault of their own, have much lower standard of education that they’re receiving than kids in higher income areas.

the conundrum

There is a dilemma that children growing up in these areas face. Because people always say, they don’t want to learn, but tax dollars being pulled from these environments are poor. So it becomes the kid’s fault that they are ready for college because they come from poverty. And that is where the conundrum comes from in their lives. It’s the fault of elementary students to high school students that they receive poor education. Whomever thinks that is rational is irrational themselves. But is that all there is to it? Should we be just outwardly placing kids in schools?

nothing given changes things

Prior I said nothing should be outwardly given to kids in disadvantaged communities. Meaning, living here in New York City, we are experiencing an issue where Black and Latino kids are being pushed out of specialized schools; but are they really? The East Asian students are coming from households where parents don’t even speak the language of the test their children are about to take, but the kids pass. So in my opinion, placing kids in the schools don’t change anything. Aiding in preparation materials that makes the kids eligible is how you go about the situation. As well as having a cultural identifier that places emphasis on education. Because placing kids doesn’t fix the problem. The Asian kids were prepared because of the structure of the groups as well. So we should aid poor communities, but from a more practical standpoint.

ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS: WHY DO WE EXPECT SO MUCH FROM OUR EDUCATORS

Man in Black and White Polo Shirt Beside Writing Board

“Cut them some slack.”

doing their job

Teachers are expected by the masses to be superheroes. We send our kids to school and think that the teacher should give them all the tools they need to be great. But the teacher is just a small part of your child’s success. The parents play a role in the child doing well in life as well. Yet the teachers take a punishment when the students aren’t performing.

work with them not against them

Playing a role in your child’s success and having good teaching is what creates the successful kid. But that depends in the relationship the parent has with the school and teacher. As a child, my mother played a vital role in us performing because she would call the schools for anything. Didn’t matter what it was, just to keep up with what we were doing. This way the teacher didn’t feel everything was on them.

give them the tools

We want them to educate our children, but we don’t give them the tools to do so. We have schools with old books and outdated equipment. Then the performance is low and we say we need better teachers. Well, how do you make due when you’re at an insane disadvantage. So the grades are a reflection of the lack of backing from not only the parents, but our government. So if you’re not going to be part of the solution, then you’re contributing to the problem.

CONTINUOUS LIFE LEARNING: WHY WE STOP LEARNING AT A CERTAIN AGE

Silhouette of Man

“Read more and learn more.”

why we stop

As adults, the vast majority of us will reach an age where we completely stop learning. And when I say completely stop learning, I mean academically. And the age we stop is young, usually in our mid 20’s. That is odd considering the average person lives to be 78 years of age. So for the next 50 years, people rarely pick up a piece of material out of curiosity and learn something new. Only problem is that when there is a new way of life in a civilization that creates a new lane for growth, people have a hard time matriculating.

learn wash learn

The brain has to be cleaned at every stage of life so that you make room for new information otherwise you don’t evolve past where you are in life. So let’s say you want to move from being poor to middle class. You have to clean your mind of what keeps you in poverty and replace that with new information. You learn things that are not taught to you in schools by an instructor. This way you’re ahead of the curve past those that are not interested in learning anything new.

mental status

Our emotional state has a lot to do with why we have a hard time learning. If you are not in the best place in life, you will have a hard time focusing and concentrating on important subject matte. You will spend a lot of your time in a rut and slump. So anything that comes your way that can possibly help you, you reject the information. And some people are so dependent on their slump that they become content and never grow.

NOW WHAT: WHERE SHOULD YOU TURN AFTER COLLEGE HAS ENDED

achievement, cap, celebration

“So many directions.”

BS. BA. MBA. PHD

You have been going to school since you were about six or seven years of age. Now that you have gotten out of college and it’s time to step into the world and you lose your way. You have no clue which way to turn because there is no road map to where you want to be in life. You have been sitting through all these lectures over the past four years and studying, but what next. You’re stuck because everyone made you think that having this piece of paper was worth wild. But what now?

go to work

Let’s say you worked at a fast food restaurant in college. Once you graduate you back to work and nothing is new. That is when life sets in that you have busted your butt to work fast food. You thought there was going to be these golden nuggets awaiting you. Just sitting there for when you graduate, you turn them in to start your life with salvageable assets. Reality is, a college degree is the icing on the cake. Now you have to out and bake the cake, then spread the icing on top. Sounds crazy when you think that the college degree was the cake.

intern or fellow or apprentice

Whatever you want to be, you must be willing to put in a great deal of work for nothing in the beginning. Why, well because you can’t demand a lot of money because you have done nothing. So you must start out at the bottom. Get yourself an internship, or be apart of a fellowship or apprenticeship program. You are learning and meeting people; making contacts that you could utilize down the road. It may not seem like much in the paradigm of living, but over time it adds up to experience.

don’t fear

But hey, don’t be afraid. Everyone goes through the problems you are going through. Only thing is, some give up and never keep going. That is where you lose. You have to learnt embrace not only change, but take your loses. It’s apart of life, and hopefully, just hopefully you come out on the other side.

LOST INTENTIONS: WHY THE TELEVISION LOST ITS ORIGINAL USE

cinema, dark, display

“Really, used for learning.”

the television

When the television was first invented, it was designed to be used as a tool to educate the public. Now, the television is used as a medium to entertain people. Image result for first tvAnd for the longest, the entertainment came from the radio. So how and why did it change over time? Because I think the television can still be used as an educational tool, but we choose not to use it for such method.

what have we learned

Once we realized in society that we could use not only language, but the imagery coming from the television as a means to push an agenda, that is when television transformed. Because now you have a way to dramatically play out what it is you have to say. Before on radio, you had to conjure up your own image, which forced people to have a creative mind.

But today, television doesn’t make you think anymore. And that comes from having to compete with the internet. So now, the television is more so built around who can get information out there the fastest, not necessarily who can educate the public. Yet, the public ourselves can still be educated, but choose not to. Then again, what is real and fake anymore in our society.

the new television

What’s interesting about the television’s original use, is that it still exist, but on the internet. And it exist on the YouTube website. That’s right, YouTube is not only a website where we listen to music and watch entertaining content, but there are also tutorials to learn trades. Anything you want to learn, someone has a YouTube channel dedicated to teaching you.

Doesn’t matter if it’s woodcarving, painting, or even learning mathematics, someone has a video for it. This would be a case of the television innovated from what it was in it’s origins.

what next

With the continuous innovation of the AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) capabilities what will be the next tool for learning. Because these headsets are already trying to make their way into schools across the country. Image result for ar and vrBut eventually, they will prove to be a problem as well. And then, we’re going to have to continue past this point as well.
