A NEW AGE OF RETIREMENT

Man and Woman Sitting on Brown Wooden Bench“Young and retired.”

THE NEW 65

I have been reading articles about how so many young people have aspirations to retire at a young age. And when I say, I mean really young. You say when, well 4o years of age. Which to put things into perspective, I am 32 going on 33. Seven years is not that far off until 4o years old. So to think about retiring that young is crazy. It’s because when you look at someone that is 40 years old when you’re 20 years old, it seems far-fetched to reach that age. But I remember 20 years old which was 13 years ago. So to think about Sophomore year in college until now, 20 years is not that long. But why the rush to stop working so fast in life. Because the average person lives to be 80 years old. What will you do for the next 40 years.

A JOB VERSUS A CAREER

So many people work a job that they hate, so the idea of working until you’re 65 years old is gut-wrenching. So we all have these ideas that we can stop a lot sooner. Reality is that most people will be working until they reach an elderly age. So be prepared to do so. I hate to be that bearer of bad news, but you will. So don’t fight for something that is not going to happen. Now, on the other hand, you can build over the next 20 years so that your life is in a good place at the age of 40 years. This way you can build for the next 25 years after to relax through old age. This is more rational than stopping at 40 years old.

40, YUCK!

Who truly want to stop when they are 40 years old. It’s such a young age for anyone to stop working in their lives. Even if you have the means to do so, it just doesn’t make any sense to want to stop. But as you approach, people usually change their perspective. Because if you try to quite so young, your boredom will force you into something new.

WORKING YOUR LIFE AWAY

Photo of a Woman Thinking

“I hope it’s worth it.”

CLOCKING IN AND OUT

We all get up and go to work each and every morning; well most people at least. But then there are the people who that’s all they do is work. And I hope whatever they do it’s worth the fight because that time you spend doing whatever you can never get it back. So make sure this means a lot to you since your life will be based upon it once you reach the end. You are going to miss out on pivotal moments in your life as well as the people around you. Friends and family will marry and have children without you being present. Not to mention the holidays that take place. Oh, and one more thing, the deaths that occur over time. I know, me myself, living in another part of the country, you go back home and don’t even recognize your family that has grown up. They were babies when you leave and teenagers now or adults.

NEVER REACHING THAT PLACE

Can you imagine getting old and realizing that everything you did is in preparation for a life that is no longer relevant. That is what happens with so many people who push for success. Or better, they never reach where it is they truly want to be in life. It has to be the hardest thing in the world to realize. And then you look over the life you’ve lived and come to also realize that you missed out on all the great things from friends and family. You probably lost people along the way you can never get back. It could have been through just growing apart or even death. But is at always as bad as it seems? And the answer is no.

WHEN IT’S GOOD IT’S GOOD

Now that the bad things are out of the way, what about the good that comes with the focus. And when it works itself out, it does in an amazing fashion. Because all that work and time put in, means you have built a pretty good portfolio for yourself. And the people who are often afraid to build wonder how you did it. As if you just woke up one day and had all these things in life going for you. It took many years and a lot of restraint. You missed a lot but you also gained a lot. And as far as the people, not everyone is meant to be with you on your journey. You will lose some people, but that is expected.

BUILD WITH THOSE WHO ARE STRANGERS

Group of People Watching on Laptop

“Those who know you won’t help you.”

THEY DON’T KNOW IF THEY DON’T KNOW

When you are building your career in life, you have to remember something. Understand that the people who may help you with the most task in life, will not know you. It will take the people who are strangers to bring you along into that place of success. Crazy, but true; the people who never knew you or met you, are the ones who will undergird you. They know nothing of the previous person that you were from which to judge. So they are more apt to reach into their pockets and spend or do business with you. Because who wouldn’t want to build with the ones they know, but the bigger the inner circle, actually the less the support.

THEY HATE WHAT THEY CAN’T ACHIEVE

¬†Your brain and your understanding of the world, is your reality. And if your brain can wrap around things better than most people then you should reach for the stars. Yet there will always be people who can’t see themselves doing what you do. Or better yet, they have an idea of you and don’t see you as getting to the point where you think you’re going to be. And if you have any chance of being in the position people might see you in, then they will try their best to stop your progression. So you have to remove yourself from them or anybody else with this mind frame.

THEY TEND TO BE LAZY

If you are going to work with people you know or depend on them for help, they are not going to have the urgency that you have in life. To them, they see you as that same old person, and will not take you serious. They my have a hard time removing that part of them that can’t see pass the past. So you have to reach out to the strangers in society.

WORK LIFE BALANCE: TRYING TO BE SOCIAL AND DRIVEN

Woman in White Long Sleeve Shirt Standing Near White and Gray House during Daytime

“FOCUS ON YOU WHILE FOCUSING ON YOU!”

PUTTING YOU FIRST

Have you ever had the feeling like no matter how hard you work, you still feel like you’re missing something? And that is because you don’t have a good work life balance. You are very successful and making strides in your career, but for some reason your life is still no fulfilling. You have to step back and look at where you are now. You are not missing anything by taking some time off. Make room for having some type of social life. Because you will not be remembered when you die for anything you built if you are so isolated from everyone. You have to know how to unwind.

IT CAN ALL GO AWAY TOMORROW

In a flash everything you worked for can be gone. And if all you were known for was getting the bag, then you are going to have problems if you shall ever lose the bag. Meaning, you work with nothing else in your life, and you lose your work, then who do you have in life. It’s fine to be a hustler, until the hustle disappears somehow. You now find yourself trying to reach out to people for some sort of guidance, and there is no one there to aid you or console you. So what you have to do is try to make yourself more accessible to others so you that you stay close enough where you don’t lose your closeness to society, while also focusing on work.

THE ADDICTION OF THE GRIND

It is so hard to not get stuck in your work especially when you are trying to climb to a certain height. The only problem is, the height you are trying to reach is a lifetime climb. You can’t get to the point then live your life. Because what if the height takes you fifty years to accomplish. Now you are at the end of your life. So don’t get to the end to only regret getting there in life. The great thing about life is living in the paradigm of it. And then getting to the end and looking over at all of what you are happy to have done.

BOTTOMELESS PIT: NOT KNOWING WHAT YOU WANT TO DO

Woman Sitting in Front of Macbook

“What should I be doing?”

i have no clue

We all know the person in college who change their major three or four times. They keep at it in school because they have no clue what they want out of life. Then they do get out of school and still go from job to job not really knowing what they want. Just like changing their major they change careers. First they want to design clothes, then open up a restaurant, next thing you know they are working on being a nightclub promoter. Their lives are not really headed in any really direction. Just falling in this pit with not bottom. So what do you do if you are one of these types of people?

figure out early

I spent so much of my time trying to figure our in my 20’s what I was good at in life. Then I stumbled upon writing, filmmaking, and photography. This is when I realized what I truly wanted to do with my life. After that it became the work to be good at what I am doing. But the problem with so many people is that they are so focused on their fun and personal lives, they neglect their career goals. Then they start to say things like, “I think I might want to be this or that.” That’s fine when you’re 18 years old, but you start to move through your 20’s and entering 30’s, you feel more helpless and less accomplished. So you have to resist the want to go out and have fun to focus on your path in life.

never getting there in life

The hardest part of life is realizing you may never find your passion. You will live on this Earth and not quite measure up. And who want s to really do that in life. You live for the next 50 years and then realize it was all for nothing. That is why people hold on to religion so much. To know this is it can be very scary.
