LITTLE GUY IN BIG SPACE: HOW TO COMPETE WITH SO MANY BIG BRANDS

Man Holding Mug in Front of Laptop

“Working hard against the big boys.”

trying to exist

In a world where big business is finding more and more ways to control how does a small business stay in business? How do you exist where the brands that we all have come to know and love are the ones right next door to you? I see companies like Walmart come into my small town where I am from and completely remove small business out of the way. And who can blame people for going to Walmart with their always low prices. When you have so many families struggling to make ends meet, there is a need to spend less money.

the threat of dying

When you see companies on the internet offering what you are doing at such low prices, it scares some people into reconsidering staying in business. That has to scare you because they have such unlimited resources that you don’t have. I also see this with small businesses like diners that have been in communities for decades, but have to close their doors. And it is due to big businesses and condos being built in the vicinity. Now the price to stay open is tougher than before. So you have to keep in mind what is going on around and stay up with the trends that are changing.

you offer something special

I gave an example prior about how the diners have closed in certain areas where I live. But then again, what taste better a diner or Subway. A lot of people would tell you Subway. The diner or McDonald’s, and most would say the diner. But for some reason the people have chosen the fast food chain. so now the diner has to figure out a way to exist because their food taste a lot better than the chains. And that’s when you realize as a business owner that you have to create something that is going to sit you apart form the brands. And you can create something that will help you survive. It’s all about how you are going to market yourself and take advantage of opportunities as they come along.

THE TIPPING POINT: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FIND YOURSELF IN A DROUGHT

Photo of Brown Bare Tree on Brown Surface during Daytime

“Just keep going.”

sunken place

Anytime you are working in the business field and you are succeeding, there are those moments when you start to feel like you’re not doing much, or the drought. And the drought is when you start to go cold, and the money starts slowing down. People tend to let moments like this bring them way down. But if you have built your business to success, you should know how to deal with times like these. Because if not for times like these you never would have made it this far. So theoretically, it should be easy to bring yourself back up. But it really isn’t that easy.

comfort

An enemy to success in business is comfort. People fight to gain in a particular aspect of their lives then they relax. And relaxation is dangerous because there is always someone behind you trying to fight to have your position. Now, if you have the life you want and relax then more power to you. But there are so many people who drought, then they go even deeper. They should try to go back into the times when they had nothing. That fire, that edge is not there anymore. Sometimes they try forcing it, but end up worsening the situation.

dig yourself out

Trying to get out of this place is tough. And if you have been successful for quite a while almost lose how hard it was for you to succeed. But once you find that ability to deal with the changes that come with being in business, you can bounce back. And most people who experience the setback bounce back. Those overnight success people have a harder time making it out of the drought. They have not put in the time so they are not ready for those moments. So when they hit, these people fall hard, and fall off. But the ones who are resilient went through all the pain early on so they are able to anticipate the drought.

REACTIONARY SOCIETY: WHY DO WE REACT BEFORE WE THINK?

Image result for CONFLICT

“Fighting over conversation.”

fight then flight

In America today, we have pride ourselves on not agreeing with what we hear, then becoming to reactionary. We are soon ready to fight just because we disagree with what someone is saying about a point we are making on a particular topic. I reality, the reason that we live in America in because we have that right to have that freedom to speak. But why has the reaction to hearing something we don’t like have become this movement? Or better yet, why are we so afraid of engaging in an intellectual conversation? To me, that reeks of fears that translate in a serious mental block.

fearing the mind

The brain is a very powerful tool, and when used to do bad, we can have disastrous impacts on society. So it comes as no surprise that we have use it to attack those we are most at odds with in life. But what’s interesting is that we don’t even want to have the conversation from fear. And fear is not hearing something we don’t like, but fear of not being able to rationalize our points. When we are up against a person who is smarter than us, we fear hearing their points because the brain is designed to store rational questions, decisions, perspectives, etc. And when we hear something we don’t like, instead of having the conversation, we shoot it down immediately. Because our adversary might say something that is the burden of proof that sticks in our minds, rendering it impossible to shake loose. So we galvanize before the person can introduce their perspective.

handling the situation

When faced with the issue of people attacking you, you never resort to places like a Twitter. And that is a place where so many people get into trouble when explaining themselves. Why, well because the characters are less then 110 words. You can’t get across an intellectual thought with few words. But even in the intellect, you will have people try to twist words. So in that case, you have to willing to lose some people. You’re going to reach everybody in society, and catering to everyone will get you into trouble. As well as also forcing you to lose your piece of imnd, and ultimately becoming the people who attack you.

SOCIETAL DECLINE: WHY ANGER IS REIGNING SUPREME

adult, anger, angry

“The easiest emotion to have and the hardest to lose.”

In America today, there is a new trend that is going around and that is the getting upset for the sake of being upset movement. I don’t think any one person started this trend, it’s just what has transpired over time. And a lot of it has to with our social media platforms. Never before have people been able to express themselves the way we’ve been able to do so in America until now. When looking at a platform like Facebook which has a community of about 800 million people globally, you’re talking they have a lot of influence. So much influence, that the election support of Barack Obama in both his election victories were pushed heavily on this platform. But with that comes the people who aim to take issue and express themselves outwardly, their anger.

But what is it? Is it that people are more angry today than any other time in history? Or is the number of angry people reflective of what it has always been? It’s just that in the past, people did not have a massive platform to express how they genuinely felt. Yet, there are indicators that point to why people are so angry in our society than just the internet. Yes when you look at past generations, they didn’t have constant reminders of how little they have in this world. You can click on a Google search engine and see photos of a life that you know people live that you don’t live. Or, there are images of how people look physically that make you think there is a standard that you don’t live up to, that you should be living. So with that said, maybe there is something to knowing too much about our lives.

Then again, if you look at the 1950’s and 60’s, that rock and roll-baby boom era, they had constant advertising of lifestyle in television, magazines, and newspapers. Whether it was the mom on television showing off the latest household appliance, or some movie where the main character was all dolled-up in expensive attire. And let’s not get started on the physical images that were marketed to so many young women in society. The most famous in the past had to have been the corset, where women wanted and were expected to have these slim waist. So with all that said, what has changed in society that contributes to the anger. And that one element that has changed is the employment market. Back decades ago, they were inundated with the same level information flow for their time period. But people also had jobs as well.

Now today, people are having a hard time sustaining in society financially. So seeing people live around them, they are constantly upset. What’s crazy is that there is more money to be made than any other time in history. And you don’t even need a boss to make an income. But like anything else in this world it takes time, a long time. And in the end, the problem with anger is people’s quality of life. It’s why our language is so sensitive, why we hate people for doing well, and follow negativity. It all makes us feel good about our own hell to see someone else there with us. So until the quality of life shift, you’ll continue to see this trend of anger in America.

REGIONAL SECESSION: COULD WE POSSIBLY SEE A SEPARATION OF THE STATES

Related image

“We want what we want; you have what you want.”

The idea of The Southern states seceding from the union has popped its head up once again. There have been sentiment from the southern states about a possible hearing regarding the states removing themselves from the rest of the country. Now, will any of this take place? My best guess is no it won’t. But that’s not the main problem. The problem is that there are quit a few people behind the push. There were even similar conversations on the west coast in California because Donald Trump won the presidency. But how does this fair out in the country regarding our togetherness as a nation?  How does this look to the rest of the world?

Well, if we’re such a divided nation, God forbid an actually conflict breaks out and we have to fight. Who will be willing to put aside these petty ways for the betterment of the nation. Or will we falter from all the constant bickering. And regarding how this looks to the rest of the world; will this have an affect on who is willing to start conflict with this nation. How do we know a country won’t try to pin regions against each other by giving states rights in the case that they win the war. Sounds crazy, but so does people getting together to resurrect a party that was crushed already.

These sentiments have been appearing as well because a lot of the Confederate monuments dedicated to the leaders of the former party have been removed from sites throughout the south. And with that has come a barrage of disdain from far right groups. Groups who feel that the South shall reclaim the region as a,”White Man and Woman region.” But this is nothing new, people in the South have always had a difference of opinion, as far as the country concerns, for decades. So could it happen? Could we possibly see a break in how the country is set up? We weren’t always one big nation. A lot of land belonged to Mexico prior to the Declaration of Independence.

And that is yet another issue people in the South have regarding the wanting to secede.  The idea that Mexicans have been crossing into the United States, have risen the theory that maybe they eventually want to reclaim what was once theirs. And that thought process has come from years of disdain as well. People have ignored this sentiment, and now that it’s more problematic, everyone is concerned. But now where do you go from here? unemployment is still high in the country, no real major growth in this nation, and socially we are breaking down. What is to come of America from here on out? Only time will tell; for now, it is a waiting game.

ETHNIC CONSCIOUSNESS: WHY HAS THERE BEEN A RISE IN RACIAL NATIONALISM IN AMERICA

Image result for NATIONALISM

“When the machine breaks down, we all break down.”

The United States of America has always had to deal with an insurmountable level of racial tension. But now more than ever, the tension has risen. You have what is considered the far right, which are members of the Klu Klux Klan as well as The New Black Panther Party. These are groups that have always been around; the Panthers for decades and the Klan for over one hundred years. But with the political landscape in shambles from tension still at a height from this past presidential election of Donald Trump, these far right groups are poking their heads up yet again. But where is all this coming from? Are we starting to digress as a country into old ways?

Let’s take a look at some of the groups in America, starting with the KKK. The Klu Klux Klan has been an organization built on White Nationalism for over one hundred years. They preach that America was made for the Related imageadvancement of the White man. Everyone else should repatriate themselves to other regions of the world. Mainly to places where their origins are from: Black People to Africa, East Asians to their respective nations, Latinos/Hispanics to theirs, and Middle Eastern to theirs. They are also an organization built on pushing against what they define as White genocide, such as interracial marriage. An action that they see as a potential threat to their people.

As for the Black Nationalist views, these are people who seek to push the Black agenda. And that Black agenda has meant everything from repatriating to the continent of Africa, to establishing our own economic base outside of White men and women in America. The further views are Related imageheld that Black people should not mix the bloodline of those who have oppressed their group, nor should Black people conduct in trade with such a group. The other Nationalist views are that Black people should create our own schools, hospitals, protection for our communities, as well as a push to recreate a culture that has been lost due to historical precedence. And these are the views of the Black Nationalist.

Now my question is, why have these views emerged today in America. Because this conversation has always been an issue. But why so much now? My theory behind the reason why is economics. Anytime Black and White people are in a lesser held position, we tend to look to the other as to why Related imagewe struggle. White men and women say I struggle because of welfare, Affirmative Action, and crime effecting their ability to earn. Black people state that we can’t earn due to systemic oppression, White privilege, and stolen identification robbing us of self. But what is the real reason?

Well, recently, psychologist and Black Nationalist Umar Johnson and White Image result for black nationalismNationalist Richard Spencer have become faces we see in the struggle. Both men have a viewpoint which is similar, yet supports one ethnic group. Now, to understand the racial fight, understand the construct. First off, Black and White are not real ethnic groups. We as Black people had no choice but to Image result for white nationalismadopt Black because our identity was lost during slavery. And White is just a combination of European groups that came here generations ago. And here lies the interesting part. We are so color constructed in America, we don’t realize the old continents and how they fight.

You have European and African groups who dislike each other. And when I Related imagesay each other, I don’t mean France hating Ghana. I mean the fight between the Serbians and Croatians. The fight between the tribal groups in Africa. So anyone who does not align themselves with the Black/White struggle is seen as a traitor. But really, your skin color construct means nothing, and is oppressive in Image result for african cultureitself. But the fight is so long and so deep, the fore fathers of America created a problem that they didn’t foresee. They had no clue that it would run so deep. So deep that now, if you are Cuban and accept Cuba and not Black you are met with resistance from the Black community in America. And if you identity as non-White/European, you’re met with resistance on the opposite side.

See in the end, the fight racially is simply to designate what is seen as your enemies. If another group would have come in and took over America after slavery, the Black/White fight might have ended then. But the leadership has always been White males. But they don’t care about Black or White people, but themselves. Therefore, it becomes more personal than racial. But people need someone to blame. Just as much as Black people need a face, White people need a face. And it’s usually as a reaction to our quality of lives. With an increase in both groups of people struggling, will come an increase in racial tension.

BLACK MEN REVEALED: WHAT WE REALLY FEEL IN LIFE

Gray Scale Photo of Topless Man Covering Face

“The fear of being me, that only another me understand.”

Growing up for me, I was always scared to walk outside. Whether it was the gang violence or police officers, it always left me shook. As a Black male, when you walk out the front door, you never know what you may be confronted with in society. So you begin to develop this outer Teflon skin that makes you desensitized to a lot. You learn that being a villain is easier than being loved, and you are able to live with that. Because you are prepared to be hated, you’re not prepared to be loved. So sometimes, you tend to sabotage your own life by engaging in activities that are not the best choices. Why, so you can operate in that space of hatred that you’re used to; that comfort zone.

But what is the real feeling when you walk the streets everyday. Fear; but I don’t mean fear in the context of I can’t leave the house. Fear in the sense of I am afraid of what you might possibly do to me. So I’m going to get the drop on you first before you get me. Because I know that whatever is done to me, will be justified. So it’s better I come prepared to go into battle, even Man's Hand in Shallow Focus and Grayscale Photographyif battle is not warranted. That is the definition of an unfit way to live. Yet for me, it’s perfectly normal because it’s the only life I and many other Black men know. Now, I am not going to go into the history because we all know. But the effects of that fear causes a strain in life in more areas than just walking up the street.

We fight against, and yet sometimes wish death upon any and every man and woman in a position of power. We’ll sometimes call out other Black men simply for not joining in on the disdain. And part of it comes from wanting someone, anyone to feel just as fucked up as what we are feeling in that moment and about life. Problem is, it is so long standing and so generational, it hurts our own community more than anything. Playing stoic to survive has made us detached at times from our own Black women. When in reality you just want to sit back and chill, not really having to care about much of what you could potentially experience that is negative in life.

Our views start young being shaped about people around us, real young. As a matter of fact in my own life going back to elementary school, I had low regard for non-Black people. Going to school where I felt the Black boys misbehaving were treated a lot differently than the White boys misbehaving the same way. So it actually caused me to Man in T Shirt and Shorts Standing on Grass Field Grayscale Photographyhold animosity toward the White males I went to school with because of it. When in reality, they had no control over the behavior of an adult and were just living in the environment they knew. It wasn’t until I hit middle school my viewpoint changed as I came into a more diverse environment. While many other Black boys went to other public schools where their experiences were continuing to be shaped in a negative way.

Our perception of the world as Black males especially is when we’re young is one that is conflicted. Wanting to be open and meet new people. Wanting to trust people and enjoy. And on the other side, waking up with a fuck the world mentality. Fueled by rage, yet tired out at the end of the day. Wanting
to harm others who are in no shape or form responsible for whatever social situation we go through. And then feeling bad the thought came across your mind. Admitting when we’re wrong is damn near impossible, especially in a world where everything you do is considered wrong. So you’re in attack mode the first person tells you, what you can’t do or have.

In the end, we bury our emotions. Part of it comes from the fact that very few people care. And part of it comes from the fact that you will be seen as weak. So we at times become dictators when we really don’t have to be. Stay paranoid and looking over our shoulders. When in reality no one is even looking at you. Everything I have said would drive the average person crazy. Yet the vast majority of us manage to live on Earth everyday just fine. Our african ethnicity, beard, blacklives are by far not normal, and experiences are even more abnormal. We are considered threatening, lazy, insecure, predatory, and flashy. Yet we really are humble, fun, hard-working, and laid-back. We have a narrative that is generational; funny thing is that only we can change that narrative. No one else cares and no one else will attempt to aid. But until then, we awake everyday, we survive, and we pray we make it home alive. And if we do, hopefully we’ll get another day.
