THE HATE FOR THE GIG

“Down on your luck.”

THE GRIND SUCKS

So many Americans take issue with their jobs. Sure they’re able to earn a living but that’s all it is for them. There is no sense of belonging in their environment. The job where they work does not appreciate them. And there is also no room for growth. That’s enough to make a person feel not appreciated. It’s almost as if the quarantine is something that have saved people in a way as much as it has hurt some. But you have to survive you can’t not work. So you have to decide to make some sort of life change. Because you can’t wake up each and every morning hating your life. It’s no way to go through life hating Sunday night waiting to Friday.

STUCK AND CAN’T MOVE

Have you ever had this feeling like you couldn’t get out of bed. Imagine having that feeling at your workplace. You want to get up and swing away from your job like you swing out of bed. But swinging from bed is much harder. It’s all in your head, but what about this as well? It could be just as simple, but you have to grab confidence from somewhere to change. Because just having a different life without addressing your problems your existence will stay the same. So there has to be something consistent to hold on to that will make you want to fight and do better. I can speak for this in pursuing photography and indie filmmaking. It’s a lifetime of a pursuit to be great so there is a lot of time to work at my age.

NOWHERE TO GO BUT UP

If you are in a place where you feel like you can’t climb then remember something. There is nowhere to go in life but up. When you have the odds stacked against you there is no bottom for someone like you. There is no bottom below bottom. You can only improve past your point. So if you do 10% better than you’re doing now, then you are ahead of most people in your position. But watch your thoughts because they become actions. And you will find yourself back in bed not able to swing out.

GETTING BACK UP

“Going back to normal.”

GOING BACK TO WORK

The Coronavirus shutdown is expected to be uplifted in various cities and towns across the country. Some people have jobs to return to but there are many that don’t. And what will be the landscape of a nation that has been in virtual isolation for the past month? We have never gone through a time period quite like this before. And to be honest I don’t know how long it will take to readjust. How do we as a society come back from something like this? How do we get back to a job that is not there for many? While we sit in quarantine trying to anticipate our next move, we are about to walk into the unknown. A new world of adjustments.

SOCIAL INTERACTIONS

In a country where you couldn’t shake hands how do you get back to normal? That means hugging your close associates. Or how about the idea of being intimate once again? How do people go back to dating each other? For a while it’s going to feel weird. Which means people being extra cautious and not wanting to walk to close to people. Which is going to feel odd living in a city where I do like New York. You’re constantly surrounded by people, so what are we to do. That means over time things will start to get better. It may take a year or more, but we’ll be back to normal.

SELF PRESERVATION

Even though we care about our fellow man, we are going to have to have to worry about self after the reopen. And that is because everyone’s situation is so dire we don’t have the luxury of worrying of others. Trust and believe that we think about because then again we are humans but we have to focus on how we move forward as a person then a nation. So, what do we do now?

NOT WORKING DURING QUARANTINE

“Stuck with nothing to do.”

THE LOCKDOWN

Since the government shutdown America has turned into a virtually desolate landscape. A nation of only hospitals, grocery stores, and pharmacies. It’s weird walking the streets of New York City and being one of few outside. But what’s more troubling is the stress in having to stay home from work. With so many people out of work and out of jobs you’re stuck trying to figure out something to do until the system opens up. For me, everyday I try to exercise and get a little air outside. But the hurtful aspect of life is feeling unproductive. And trying to do things to stay in the game is tough. Even though you share the same problem with everyone else it sucks alot. So for now it’s a waiting game.

THE SHUT OUT

I know we like to think about those stuck at home but what about those stuck at home and out of work? These are the people not going back to normal. They will be home even when the system reopens. They have a road ahead that is going to be such an uphill battle because no one is hiring but the bills keep coming. So economically their hit is going to be far worse. And to add to it they are running out of food in addition while the unemployment system is shut down. Hopefully the system turns around sooner than later.

WHEN IT OPENS

As we all know the country can’t stay shut down forever. We have to open eventually. And when we do, it most likely will be an awkward experience. Seeing people finally step out of their homes like Zombies. The slow moving aimless movements to home and work. It’s not like the virus disappears. The system just opens because we will hit a point where for the most part it’s contained. I think what has happened will make people on edge even about work from now on. Our jobs are so unsecure but in tragic situations we learn the majority take a major hit. It makes you wonder is there still something out there even worse.

INDEPENDENT DOWNSIDES DURING HARD TIME

“Moving forward.”

WHEN ROUGH GETS ROUGHER

Ever been in a position where you have to choose between being totally independent or needing someone’s aid? How about being on your own and getting hit by hard times and being in a place where you can’t easily bounce back. And here is when you realize that you may have been better off in a relationship. This way you can split the cost of survival with someone. When you are independent you take on all the burden. It sounds good to be on your own but when you see the hit on your existence you start thinking. And no other time is this true than now. We are dealing with a pandemic that has shut down the system. So where do you turn?

QUARANTINE GIVES TIME TO THINK

When you are out of work especially now, you are forced to sit with your own thoughts. And if you are single with no kids then you have to sit at home with limited resources. Limitations you wouldn’t have with someone else. Because with someone else you split the difference.  It’s what makes a person at ease a little more when they are able to receive help from someone close. But for a person like me, my life is all too unpredictable. I could be with or without in an instant. So why do we pump up independence? Because you get further with more help. It’s because we think it makes us stronger by building alone.

BUILD A BASE

Learn to put people around you that are going in your direction. This will help you in your time of need.  Being alone especially in a quarantined like situation is not good. I live alone in a city but I get help in bad times. Yet so many don’t get anything.

NO WORK DURING QUARATINE

“Where do I turn?”

THE MELTDOWN

The recent outbreak of the Corona Virus stemming from a small local marketplace in Wuhan China has put the world on lockdown. And as a citizen of New York City, this city has been the hardest in America. And with that, has come a wave of unemployment. It has now left people from all over the country wondering what to do now. Because I know for me, I still have a job. But so so many that’s not the case. I have never been in this position so it’s kind of a no man’s land. And for most people this is a new reality. So, let’s go through the steps to being able to get yourself through this troubling time? The first step is to apply for unemployment.

UNEMPLOYMENT UNDER COVID-19

In order to apply for unemployment, there are a number of steps to go through when filing. The first step is to go to the Department of Labor and sign up for an account. You will have temporary password sent to your email account. Sign into your account and then you’ll be prompted to create a new password. Once into the account tou created, understand that you have a specific time period to call or file. That is based off of your last name which means you call corresponding to that date. For example, my last name is a J, that means I call on Tuesday. So when you call, be prepared to wait a while.

BE PRECISE WITH INCOME

You have to know before calling how much time you work and the amount of money you make in a two week span. This is important because then they’ll be able to calculate what your unemployment can be. Now, they will look into you, and if you’re off, the process takes longer. So be open and honest up front so the process goes a little smoother. And if you manage to go through the process and get unemployment, remember it’s only 55% at most of your income. This is not meant for you to be unemployed. This is why the percent gets cut in half. It’s to encourage working. Now, this situation is difficult because the government shut down the country. This forced people to lose jobs. So it’s no fault of the unemployed. Yet, the percentage still stands.

A WHOLE NEW WORLD

Americans have not experienecd this much lost since 2008 when the economic recession forced out of work and out of their homes. Only this time it’s at no fault of the people. And the help which people will get is minimal and one time only. Now, the market go back to its original point, yes. It may take a year or more. The nation will return to success. But for now it’s going to be a struggle.

THEIR FEAR INSIDE OF YOU: HOW PARENTS PROJECT ONTO THEIR KIDS

Woman With Brown Baby Carrier And Little Kid In White Jacket

“I know what’s best for you.”

PLAY IT SAFE

Your parents love, and they want to protect you. But sometimes they overprotect you. They tend to look at your life and see something in it for them. They have built and put so much into you, they really want to know that the investment is worth it. But part of the problem is that you have to deal with them saying that you should play it safe. When it comes to pursuing a career, you are supposed to choose a job that is a little more of a guarantee. And this is something that will make your parents happy about the life you have chosen. But what happens once the kid decides to make a career decision that does not align with the parents decision?

NO  REAL OUTCOME

When you choose a career that is not a little more guaranteed like a doctor or lawyer, then your parents will be more appreciative of you. But then there are the jobs that we choose that are a lot more unguaranteed. Your kid wants to be an actor or musician. And here is where most parents will stand in the face of their child and push them in another direction. This is because we want them to be safe and other times parents project on to their children their own fears and insecurities. So, generally, the kid accepts the parent’s request and live their lives how they’re expected to live.

DREAM KILLERS

Parents build dreams, but also, parents kill the dreams of their children as well. And I am not only talking about kids being actors. What if your child want to be an archaeologist? A lot of parents would not support that because this is a profession that does not make much money. They are not concerned about what you love they are concerned about security. Supporting yourself is more important to them than your passion. So a lot of times you have to pursue yourself.

MAKING IT IN LIFE

Close Up Photo of a Person Wearing Suit Jacket

“What’s it all mean?

I’VE ARRIVED

People can’t wait until they get to a certain point in life then they look and say I have made it or arrived. But then you have to ask yourself, what does it mean by making it life? Because we automatically look at someone who makes money  as a symbol of where we want to be and how big we aspire to be. But looking at someone else’s life can be disatrous because we don’t know how they became so successful. We can look at their blueprint, but you should be weary of following another person’s actions move for move. It worked for them, not quite for you.

MEANINGS BEHIND INTENT

What is the real meaning behind the words. Because that is way more important than anything. In America, we always put the meaning for making it in the country as someone who has a certain level of income. But a school teacher might be a person living their dream and they are far from people making a lot of money. But in the same breathe you have celebrities taking their own lives even with so much money. So understand why you’re building and what it means to you.

COMPARED TO THOSE AROUND YOU

When you look at the peers of people around you, you have a tendency to stack yourself against others. And how could you not because who you associate yourself with says a lot about yourself. So you can’t be around winners and not be a winner yourself. It will either rub off on you or you will fall out the group. But you should never see yourself as not successful if you are doing something in life that is not as lucrative, as long as it has meaning behind it.
