GREAT CAREER – GREAT SALARY – STILL BROKE

WASTED PAYCHECK

Are you someone who make money every two weeks but yet you still don’t have much. That means your life is out of wack. Something is going on that is in your best interest. And the person to blame is you. You have to treat your check like it is more than what you are doing. People get paid and next thing you know they spend their checks once they have their bills accounted for. But that is not the way you work for your living. You can’t just sit aside money for rent and bills, and personal needs, then go shopping. Then expect no to have anything as you grow older. You have to sacrifice the wants right now for the needs now and wants later.

RESPECT THE POSITION GIVEN

People get these different positions in their career. Then they get there and next thing you know they throw so much away. People have all these ideas about what they will do, but then they never do those things. Especially if you come from nothing and you are building to something. You forget about why you decided to build in the first place. But you know, most people forget where they come from and how far they have come. You get so caught up in the moment of enjoying and building you forget. It’s easy to detach yourself.

BUCKLING DOWN STINKS

So many people have a hard time building in their lives because they don’t want to deal with the idea of having to do the work and failing. If you fail we are scared about people making fun of us. So we live in this space of wanting but not building. Having the ability but not trying because we spend money on garbage that could be allocated into something more important.

FALLING OFF: HOW TO RECOVER FROM A JOB SETBACK

Image result for job loss

“Anyone hiring?”

i need a job

Whenever you have a setback in life, it can difficult to recover. But nothing is more difficult to recover from, besides an illness, than losing your job. Because you can’t just walk into an establishment like decades ago and find one. You have to really do some serious searching, especially today with such a high percentage of jobs being referrals. You have to reach out to every contact you have ever had in life to see if they can help you. And that is because the average person who loses their job will be homeless in less than a month. Why, well it’s because the majority of people live paycheck to paycheck. So what do you do because I have never lost my job, but I have had real setbacks.

getting back to yourself

How do you get back into position so you can be back to where you should be. And that could take a lot of mental evaluation on your behalf. Because once you lose your job, there is a confidence hit that you take. Your internal self is not right, so you have a hard time getting back up. But at some point you have to get back up, otherwise you will get into a rut and never go anywhere. So find some way to gain that inner confidence and strength so you don’t too down on yourself where you cannot recover.

your side hustle

If you ever get back on your feet, it is important you try to have a little extra income outside your day job. This can be thrown into a savings account and never touched unless you need it. Now this is easier said than done, but we are not in the time of our parents and grandparents. Jobs are a lot more hard to come by.

YOU’RE FIRED: HOW TO BOUNCE BACK FROM UNEMPLOYMENT

Full Length of Man Sitting Outdoors

“Where to go from here.”

your last day

You show up to work, but little do you know, it is your last day. You have no other job, no income, no way of paying your bills. This is something that no one is able to foresee nor prepare for in life. And to add to it, most people don’t have enough money in savings to hold themselves over until they find something else. So the average person is in the street after a short period of time with no income coming into the household. Me myself, I have never been long without a job. And I was a college student, so I had at least student housing.

whose at fault

We have to let you go is something we want to hear. And the first thought that goes through our minds is, was this personal. And if it were, then why was it so personal. And to be honest, most people are not let go from their jobs because it was a personal decision. The reason being, is that companies like to have a legitimate reason because they want to avoid lawsuits. But most places are letting people go from downsizing in the organization. This is typical, and if you work long enough you will experience downsizing some point in your career. Hopefully it’s not you.

what next

Now that you are out of work what is your next move? I guess this is the reason people have more than one income. Now, most people don’t, but that is my move. To go out into the world and build multiple streams of money coming into the house. This way it leaves my options open to continue to have money coming in, in the event I lose my night job. But this is a skill that takes time because making a consistent income on your own takes a while. Too bad most people never take the initiative to do so.

IT’S ONLY TEMPORARY: DON’T LET FINANCIAL SETBACKS DETERMINE YOUR OUTCOME

“When you’re on your last leg.”

at wits end

Growing up for me, we were a poor household. But have you ever felt like throwing your hands up because you don’t have enough money. Or the fact that your finances are out of wack. You are ready to give up and give in, but something is keeping you from doing so. And why give up, why let life win. Because who ever said it would be easy was lying to you. I have looked at my bank account an wondered to myself, how the hell do I make it everyday. But I always seem to pull myself through pay my bills on time.

give up and go deeper

The more you hurt the more you sink into a dark place, the harder it is to get out of that place. So it sounds easy, but it’s beyond difficult. How do yo remove yourself from this funk. I wish I had the model for getting out of a dark place. Now notice I said dark place, which is associated with the mental. A lot of people are not deep as they think, but the mind starts working on you and next thing you know you are financially done. So watch how that mind can play tricks on you.

there’s always someone worse

We hate looking at another person’s life and thinking to ourselves, “At least I am not going through that in life.” It sucks to sometimes look at someone else to feel good about myself. I want to just feel a certain way and know that my feelings are special . Only problem is that they are not special. And it’s great to feel what others feel. I would never want to be the only person on Earth with money problems.

SHOW SOME RESPECT: WHY DO PEOPLE COME FROM THE BOTTOM AND THROW MONEY AWAY

Woman Holding Shopping Bag

“Mind your money.”

started at the bottom

So many people who grow up in poor environments have these dreams of making it in life. A goal that is very broad and ambiguous when you hear the word making it. But there is another side to making it in life. And that side that how do we make money, do all that work to get it, then blow it to the wind. And it’s simple, we think the money will keep coming. We don’t think about tomorrow because tomorrow is not on the minds of people. We make so much money and over time forget about the days of being broke. And that’s when you make the vital mistake. Once you forget, you find yourself back in the place once again.

think first, spend last

There is a saying, “Hey, if you got it, flaunt it.” And that sounds good, but the life that you might be living could all fall apart because it’s not a sustainable existence. You have to think about tomorrow, but that’s hard when you don’t have to think about tomorrow. So many people ask how do you let your spending get out of control. But they have to always watch their finances Image result for broke athletes espnreally closely. They live on the edge of losing everything, so they don’t understand getting and then spending beyond what you have to spend. But guess what, the people spending were the people at one point in time who said they don’t understand why so many people with money go broke.

your mind must be cleaned

If you want to keep the money you earned you can no longer think poor. You have to always keep cleaning out the bad stuff that you once thought was a good idea before you started making money. Because your thoughts at a certain level might be rational to you and everyone around you at that current level, but they keep you in that same position. And you don’t realize your mind needs cleaning until you move to a different level. And then everyone below that point you see their mistakes. And that’s when you think to yourself, “Oh, ok, this is the problem.” Sad thing is, so many won’t understand or listen to you. And they will never leave their position. And if you don’t watch your spending you will be back in the position you worked so hard to leave.

MONEY WOES: WHY ATHLETES MAKE A LOT OF MONEY AND GO BROKE

Coins Inside Jar

“Why they lose it all.”

new money

When you are a young male coming from an impoverished environment or even coming from the middle class, you have all these dreams in regards to money. Buying this lavish home and living a life that you never thought you would be living. but then it happens, and all of a sudden you can afford that house. You can now go out and buy that lavish car and those clothes you looked at through windows. But there is a catch to all this money, and that is it does not last forever. So you have to spend wisely and also pay your bills on top of that as well. Red and Brown Floral Stair Carpet

when the game is over

As the game passes you by and it’s time to move on to the next thing, now what? You have been spending so much money that you forgot about the end nearing. So here you are, broke with nothing to your name. A place where so many athletes have found themselves once they retire from the league. You are destitute and scrambling for answers as to what you will do to generate an income. And this is where you notice athletes make even more vital mistakes. They start dumping money into ideas that fall apart even quicker than spending. But see, there has to be more that meets the eye. All of them can’t be spending excessively.

reality versus fiction

When you see guys going pro, it means that they are overnight millionaires, wrong. Most of them are name you will never know who make around $500,000 per year before taxes. And their careers are on average 3 years long. So when you hear that someone made $1.5 million over 3 years, that is a lot relative to the average American. But when you factor in the fact that you have to make that money stretch after the league and taken into consideration the money you lived off of while playing, it’s not much. $1.5 million minus taxes equals about $800,000 with the average home around $250,000. $550,000 after 3 years is way less, and you’re talking working a regular nine to five. Because you’re retired, but you can’t retire fully off the money you have made.

big money go broke as well

Here is a level that is difficult to comprehend when athletes go broke. It is the level where guys are making over their career $50 million, $100 million, or even $200 million. How in the world do they go broke? And the reason is taking care of others, bad investments, and not watching their finances. They live a lifestyle that billionaires don’t even live. Taking care of multiple people who are not bringing in incomes can run up a bill as well. So it all falls apart eventually.

AFTER THE LIGHTS: WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THEY RETIRE

Football Players in Blue Jersey Lined Under Grey White Cloudy Sky during Sunset

“What do they do now?”

athletic retirement

We watch, they play, we celebrate; but what happens when it all goes away? Eventually, when they put up the cleats and sneakers they will go into retirement. And when that happens what are they to do? Most of them are names of people we will never remember. And their careers on average don’t span the amount of time that the top guys last. They make up the average career which is three to five years. And they make the average salary which is $500,000 to $1 million. And that is money that is after taxes, so they make the most they will ever make in less than half a decade. Most of them will tell you that they have hard times, not just financially but emotionally after the game.

first day off

So it’s your first day off of work from retirement, what do you do? Usually, these guys go to the gym to stay in shape for them to play their sport. But since they don’t have to do so anymore, then why not take this day to lounge. But eventually lounging gets old, and they get bored. What about going out to play some rounds of golf, but this also soon proves to be boring. Now, when you get drafted into sports at the age of 22 or 23 years and you’ve played in the league and are now 25 to age 30, what do you do? Your friends you grew up with are just starting life, and you have already retired. Your motivation and depression can set in, and now you feel useless.

reaching for relevance

When you were on top of the world, it is a feeling that no one who is in another position can imagine. Then it all goes away and you need to do something to feel that void. Some people try holding on longer in their career, some become sportscasters, and others reality television. But this can sometimes backfire against you and ruin whatever legacy you have worked to create for yourself. So be sure to not negatively effect that in the process.

broke

We have all heard the stories and seen the outcomes. Athletes who after their playing days have become broke. And so many become broke because they don’t have the money coming in to sustain the life anymore. So now they must make a decision regarding their lives. And this where so many retired athletes go broke because investing in their futures never crossed their minds and the ones that do lose money. ESPN has done a docu series 30 for 30 on going broke. Long after playing days of making big bucks, athlete lives go in shambles. And it all falls apart the day they say I quit.

HURT PEOPLE HURT PEOPLE: INTO THE MIND OF THE BROKEN

broken, cry, crying

“Thee broken hearted.”

WHO ARE THEY

Those who are the broken hearted people in our society come from a wide range of backgrounds. Some of them grew up with hurt and pain in their lives while others came across it later on. They have dealt with so much hurt that now they have put the shoe on the other foot. Yet when they decide to hurt people, they hurt those who are innocent. I guess to them they feel if it can happen to me, and nothing is done, why not anyone else.

INTO THE LINE OF FIRE

You see someone you’re interested in getting to know, yet little do you know, they are broken. You want to either be their friend or partner in a relationship, but they have been upset by others over and over again. Now you are about to be their first victim. You’re a good person, but damn, how did you all of a sudden become their target. Everyone else ran away, but you literally walked straight into their cross hairs. Now, you’re about to feel the full grunt of years of abuse. Strap in and prepare for lift-off.

GOING DEEPER

I remember watching a movie by filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan entitled, “Split.” The movie is about a man with split personalities who kidnaps three young females. Everyday, the girls come in contact with a different personality, until he kills three and leaves one alive. He was about to kill the third, but once he saw her deep cuts on the wrist, he stated, “The broken ones are always the purest.” The girl had sliced her wrist, a sign of some internalized pain. Turns out she had been molested by her uncle for years, who now has custody over her. The broken people’s hurt runs so deep, it can go back until childhood and last forever.

IN THEIR WAKE LIES CARNAGE

Problem with those who have been hurt is that they generally hurt others. Those people at times are so hurt that they hurt others, and the chain reaction leads to a society of damaged people. We never get into the minds of the hurt, the broken, the damaged. Because if you could see deep within them, they hurt, they cut their wrist, all because they want to turn people away from them. Hurt others and themselves so they don’t appear attractive so they can have an excuse to remain aloof. Yet what they really want is someone who truly loves, truly cares, sometimes, someone who is just as broke as them who understands why they hurt.

ONE BAD DAY AWAY: HOW LIVING PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK IS BIGGER THAN JUST MONEY

Image result for WORKING POOR

“Pay check Friday, gone by Saturday, back broke by Monday.”

For me growing up in a household with a working poor mother, it was tough watching her struggle. One sick day, one missed pay period, and we could have been one of those families in a homeless shelter. What do you do when you’re living a life that feels like all hope is gone? When you look forward to the end of the day before the beginning even starts. That is the feeling of so many people in America. But living paycheck to paycheck is more than just a financial strain. It’s an emotional strain that causes more issues than not having money. People who are living poor generally have lower self-esteem, lower confidence, poor health, and their mental instability is typically higher. So what happens that places a person in these types of conditions?

Well, for me, I have a mother and father that both grew up poor and both their parents grew up poor. And that’s when you realize that poverty in America is more than just not having a job and not being able to get a job. It’s not the idea that people are lazy or don’t care about their futures. Poverty in America is generational; with every passing generation, you notice times get rougher and rougher. At least when my mother and father were young, there was a sense of community. In today’s society there is no community in the poor communities. You don’t even have the support of your family in life. So you almost have to cross your fingers and hope for the best. And if you fall, it’s not too hard of a fall that you can’t recover.

Another reason people live in poverty in America, is that there are so many people not in the know. And the know, is all the pieces coming together with all your knowledge to make your life make sense. And if you are not skilled enough to make your life make sense, then you cannot rise above where you are in life. Even with a good education, which helps, you still have to be able to put yourself in the know. Because a college degree is the icing on a cake, not any of the ingredients to make that cake. The ingredients come from you, and most people don’t know how to bake their success cake. They look at success like a fast food restaurant, “Just show me how to work the fries, and then I’m off to the races making big bucks.” It’s not that easy; it takes the elements that are skills, smarts, hard work, and some luck.

And in the end, when observing some of the prior elements of success, so many just don’t have in them. And if they do have these elements, they are totally unaware as to how to get the elements working for themselves. So they will live their entire lives not achieving anything remotely close to even an idea of success.

THE KNOW: HOW POVERTY IS MORE OF A MIND FRAME THAN MONEY

Related image

“Getting out, does not guarantee you’ll stay out.”

As a young man, I grew up under the poverty level here in the United States. Now, if you would have told me that at a young age, I would not have believed you. But once I became an adult, I decided to look back and research how much money my mother made on her job. And for a single
Related imageparent household making the income that my mother made, we were classified as an impoverished family. Yet, we always had food, clothing, and a roof over our heads. Little did I know, that my mother was one rainy day, one sick day, one bad break away from us being homeless. So is poverty about money alone or is it a mind frame?

I come from a family of poor people. And it’s generational poverty; whereas my mother and father were poor, their parents were poor, and so forth. As a matter of fact, my family on both mother and father side have been poor since slavery in America. So for well over 200 years of American history, we Related imagehave lived through poverty. Understandably so how we could have in the past given the historical accounts; both slavery and Jim Crow. And we can also point to other social-economic policies aimed at certain ethnic groups in certain communities. But that aim was mainly to aid White communities, and Black neighborhoods. Now, a large portion of White men and women are suffering.

So is it still about race, yes and no. I feel race can be used, yet it’s bigger than that today. The struggle is real and everyone is feeling it. So how, how do you bring yourself out of poverty? And my theory is that poverty is more than just not having money. It’s about knowing how money work and how Related imageyour money work. And that requires putting yourself in the know. And the know is whatever it is you’re seeking to accomplish in this world. For example, professional athletes make it financially out of poverty, yet their minds are still in poverty. So the majority of them wind-up broke after playing professional sports. Why, well because they don’t know anything about money.

Athletes are beneficiaries of the lottery effect , where they get overnight wealth. And lack of knowledge places them back into poverty. A lot of Americans don’t understand how, but more of them would do the same. Image result for lottoBecause it’s not only spending habits that land them back into poverty, it’s financial investors and managers mismanaging funds. So what about the American who does not get their start in sports/entertainment? Where do they look first when trying to overcome their struggle? And the tough question is, there is no one place to look. You have to adopt a certain mind frame for finding and making an income; as well as retaining a standard of living.

And in the end, that’s something that people cannot grasp hold of; the mind frame. You can’t teach it, and you can’t fully learn. You just have to have a mind that is built to understand how to put yourself in a know space. ThereRelated image will always be people giving you a blueprint. But you’re not supposed to just runaway with it, more so, you should be using it to build your own vision. Their blueprint is just a basic template to get you started. Yet people at times are even offset by the blueprint of another person. And often will reject you for offering the blueprint. Nonetheless, this getting out of poverty game is psychological. And if the mind is not right, neither will be your standard of living.
