FREE WORK: DON’T SLEEP ON UNPAID

Woman Sitting on Gray Chair

“Blessing in disguise.”

no pay for experience

You want to go off and make a lot of money one day, fine. But when you first start out, there is generally no money to be made in your career endeavor. But when you are dealing with a generation that wants things now, then you are going to have problems in building. You need to understand that no pay could provide you with the skills and connections to do more in life. But when all you can see is what is right in front of you, then you sometimes kill your blessings.  So know that everything does not come in the form of a check.

you have nothing to bargain with

When you are a younger age you don’t have anything to negotiate with. You can’t just walk in and make demands like you have been doing it for so long. You have to be doing this for some time in order to make a consistent income. Consistent income takes time where you have to do not only build your income elsewhere but build your dream on another time. So you have to have a full time job and this gig that may not pay much if anything. And the idea of doing something for free kills people. Only thing is that you have to do it for free because there is nothing to be made off your ideas. So you have to work extra hard.

its a marathon

Understand that we all have a start. And if you want to be anywhere in life, you have to willing to deal with what comes with being in the position. You have to understand how each of the moving parts work. You are in such a rush to get to where you have to go, but why. You want to try to learn all the moving parts around the job. You don’t just get the job and make money. Understand what others around you do. It will make you a better person in your career.

MOVE IN SILENCE: HOW PEOPLE LEAVING PEOPLE IN THE UNKNOWN CAN BE GOOD

Black Point-and-shot Camera Near Macbook Pro

“They don’t need to know everything.”

the come up quiet

As you are building your success in life, you never want people to know too much of what you are doing in life. Because not only does it kill the suspense, but you also want to be able to grow without too much intervention from individuals who may have the power to slow you down. People should look up and before you know it, you are in a position ahead of them. By the time they try to figure out how, you are well beyond the point to even their success. And this is how I choose to live my life. I like walking the streets and people not really making eye contact, but in at the same time making strides to be where I want to be.

don’t draw your own target

I remember one time seeing Floyd Mayweather walking the streets of New York and countless people trailing behind. Why, well his lifestyle is one to be followed constantly. But there is a price that can come with amount of attention. And that is that if you ever want to elevate past the point of your current position. People will look at you and assume you don’t need help because you’re already big. Look at Bill Gates, you look at him and people know he’s wealthy, but the money he has given away actually exceeds what he is worth today. So more people are willing to constantly contribute over your lifetime when you don’t have a target.

assumption of the truth

When people think they know you, you can use this to an ultimate advantage. They will look you up and down and make their judgement call. But internally you know your life, and as long as you know and love your life other voices don’t matter. But also, you might actually want these people to be in the unknown because they sleep and don’t realize how awake you are in life. So when they do, you have surpassed them. And the only reason why we rationalize the way we do, is because our own life experiences shape how we view other people. We come to a consensus based on looking at you from a broad spectrum, and then make a judgement call. And when we are false in our assumption, we blame the person for making us wrong. I’m telling you, the move in silence is so mental, so real, and I love it.

INSTAMONEY: HOW TO BUILD A CAREER AROUND SOCIAL MEDIA

White Samsung Laptop Computer Showing Smartphones

“Create-Post-Cash In.”

post for pay

I see people everyday when I use my Instagram that have amassed a large following. And not all of them are celebrities; some are average Joe’s. But they didn’t start with 500k, 1 million, or 10 million followers. They started with just one as anyone does. But over time they have built a community that at this point they can monetize. And if you are one of the lucky few to have built a career from Instagram, then more power to you. There are other platforms where people capitalize like Facebook, Twitter, and even YouTube. So how did they start and make an income from using these various platforms? Well, let’s first look at the beginning.

who are you

You want to build a large following on the internet, then you need to step back and realize who you are as a person. What are you going to be posting that makes people want to come to your home page or tune in to your videos and consume your content. You have to build some type of niche that is you, so that people can quickly see a photo you take, listen, or watch and be immediately connected. Now, it doesn’t hurt if you are an attractive man or woman who people instantly gravitate to. But for most people, ecstatic are not the thing that’s going to drive you forward. So you need a talent; a talent that must be cultivated over a long period of time. And this is what brings me to my next step which is the building stage.

put the work in

You have to go through steps in order to make yourself attractive enough to follow. So what are the steps one must take.

  1. THE START – Come up with an identity that is you. Are you going to take photos of people, sites, or both. Will you focus on more landscapes, commercial, or are you into the fashion space. Once you figure out what you want to photograph, then you have to start; if Instagram is your goal. If your goal is video content, then the process starts with the ideas you plan to shoot on camera.
  2. THE CLIMB – This is the stage at which you have to show up daily and consistently put in the work. It’s the longest stage where most people give up. Because they either don’t want it, or didn’t realize how long it would take to climb.
  3. THE BASE – This would be the part where most would think they can start making money, but it’s not. Even when you build a base, you can’t just start throwing things in their faces and think they will spend money. That is a sure way to lose followers. There must be something that connects to what you are doing. Meaning, don’t try to sell sports energy drinks if you’ve built a platform off of fashion.
  4. THE BUCKS – Now you can monetize, but watch how you throw things at your base. Let it make sense, and let it be honest. People with millions of followers get offered money opportunities all the time. But when it doesn’t make sense you lose. But when it does make sense, you can generate large scale revenues for yourself.

it doesn’t end at success

You have so many people who think now I can relax, not true. If anything, your life is about to get even more complicated. Why, well because in order to maintain, you have to always step up your game. With every level you reach, people will expect you to hold that position. So with a social career, be prepared to work for years and years; slowly and honestly.

CAREER CAREER CAREER: A MONTH FOR GROWTH

adult, blur, boss

“Building a life for yourself.”

careers

Me myself, I have not broke into my career, but I am in leui of it. My pursuits are as a writer (screenwriter and author), filmmaker,  and Photographer. A process that takes a lifetime of work to stay relevant in your career. But for the month of July, I want to focus on answering some questions. The questions will be geared toward directions to take when confused about your future.

drive, will, determination

When pursuing a career, you need to be prepared for the long arduous road of pain to prosperity. And the hardest part is that there are no guarantees. No are not promised this pot of gold and that’s tough to cope with. I guess it’s why we look to have a job with security instead of entrepreneurship. Either way you see it, you must be willing to focus, and fight hard. Ignore the naysayers and take control of inhibitions.  Conserve your energy when possible because you’ll need along the way.

LOSE OF INNOCENCE: HOW ADULTHOOD ROBS YOU OF YOU

Image result for ADULTHOOD

“You lose and lose and lose; then maybe you win.”

When you’re young, everyone tells you about how adulthood will pan out, Yet it does not quite amount to the struggle when you do become and adult. You’re told you have to work to become the person you want to be. But when you’re actually working to be that person, then you see it first hand. And you start to ask questions you never thought you would find yourself asking. Questions like, “Are humans really built to work like this everyday?” “I want a one dollar McChicken from McDonald’s; you mean to tell me I need a full-time job for a one dollar sandwich?” And with all the questions you ask, hopefully you’re able to come out on top. Yet so many don’t come out on top.

So inevitably, what is lost from your climb to success. In my opinion, when all you’re doing is working, then a bit of innocence is lost. You lose some humanity, as well as you becoming a little less empathetic person. You go from caring about the loved ones around you to what’s in it for me. And that’s when even more of you is lost. But why are we like this? Well, it’s because of how man constructed society.  Humans evolved to live on this planet, but not to necessarily work all the time. But we also needed to construct the world to keep everything in order also. So part of that keeping order was building economies. And as a driver in these economies, jobs and a marketplace of buyers and sellers.

So now, society is situated around attaining a living. Yet we are not happy creatures; more stressed than anything. But we continue on because there is this held belief that there is light at the end of the tunnel. We wake up every morning giving thanks for another day on Earth. But how content are we really? Maybe this is the reason we cling on to other aspects of society, like religion or having social lives. Or even maintaining monogamous relationships. It gives a real human existence outside the hustle of our work lives. Because a vast majority of our lives is predicated on what we do for a living. So it’s tough when we don’t have anything going on outside of work.

In the end, the older we get, the more we lose ourselves. And when I say ourselves, I don’t mean our self-respect. I mean this small amount of humanity that we lose. I think this is why we sometimes place ourselves around charities. We give back because it gives us what we lose through so much struggle in life.

WHERE DOES THE TIME GO: HOW TIME TICKS AND MAKING THE MOST OF LIFE IS IMPORTANT

Image result for MELTING CLOCK

“Keep yourself busy, time surely does.”

Get up, go to work, come home, eat sleep, do it all over again. So many people have a daily routine that consists of the same thing day in and day out. Never trying anything new in life, their life remains constant. Then the days go by and before you know it, you have spent years doing nothing. This is the life for so many people in America. Totally fine if you’re doing something you love to do for a living. But there are so many people who don’t; and for them it’s depressing. Well why, why do so many people waste time doing nothing with their lives.

See, me myself, I work two part time jobs while working on my real career path. So after work I work on my novels, screenplays, and filmmaking in the computer lab. Since 2012 I have been continuously working at getting better and better. From the moment I sit in the seat in the computer lab, you’d be surprised how much time ticks away. There have been days I enter the lab at 9:00 a.m., then look up and it’s 1:00 p.m. I continue to work and next thing I know the clock is at 7:00 p.m. I look outside to confirm this change in time. The sky is dark and evening has set in, while I work for the next few hours. At roughly 10:40 p.m. I leave and go home. It’s tough because you’re working toward something, yet no income is initially coming in.

But what about the others, what about the people who do nothing but exist. They not only just work their jobs, they hate their jobs, and see themselves going nowhere. What a tough way to live your life. Some of these people will find their way and eventually land on their feet. Others will never find their way and forever live in misery. Such a tortured life, live to the end and regret every minute of it. Sitting around and watching everyone else live thier lives, yet you never make a move to live your own life. Well, why do people sit around and not make a move with their lives.

Some of it is due to the lack of motivation and some comes from the fact that they are not good at anything. Not having a real discernable skill is depressing as well. Because having a discernable skill not only aids in you generating a living, but also contributes to your happiness. See, in the end, we all have this idea of where we want to be in life. Getting there is the hard part. Problem is, most people will never reach that point. Not only reach that point, but will also never find what it is they’re good at in life.

AMERICAN DREAMS: THE TRUTH OF WHY WE WORK

Image result for DAILY GRIND

“Why we are so romanticized with the baller lifestyle?”

Wake up at 7:00 A.M., and go get into the shower. Get dressed and prepare yourself for work. Leave the house by 8:00 A.M., and embark on your commute to work everyday. Get to work by 8:30 A.M. to 8:45 A.M. Do your usual hellos to your coworkers and get settled in. Work until 12:00 P.M. when you take your lunch break. Come back from lunch at 1:00 P.M. Work until 5:00 P.M. and leave work for the day. Get home by 6:00 P.M. so you can start cooking dinner. After dinner, you lie your head down at around 9:30 P.M./10:00 P.M.

The previous is 5 days per week. Hang out Friday night, slack off Saturday, and prepare next week on Sunday. All that has been stated is the definition of the real world. All those hopes and dreams of being this baller; living in a palatial mansion is a fallacy. Well why, why do so many live this daily mundane grind. For starters, a lot of people underestimate the time one must spend to get to that next level. And when I say next level, this could be ambiguous. The next level for some might be moving from poverty to middle class. And others it could be from middle to upper middle. But what about upper class. What about your dreams: the 10,000 sq. foot mansion with a fleet of luxury cars in the driveway, and a state of the art interior living space. In addition, what about your private Lear Jet which will take you to St. Tropez for the weekend.

Ha! What a joke. That lifestyle is possible, but like I said before, people underestimate the time it takes to climb. They don’t understand that working 8 hours per day, 5 days a week won’t get you there. They don’t realize that after everyone else goes home you must be still working. While they are in deep sleep, you are just about to lie down. But here is the kicker, you must wake when they do, if not before. So instead of the working 40 hours per week and sleep 56 hours per week. You are really working 63 to 100 hours per week and sleeping 35 hours. You must be thinking; WHAT THE HELL! 100 HOURS; GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!

But we call this the grind. Some people say, “I worked 6 hours today; #grinding.” Or they’ll say, “Did like 30 hours of work this week; #hustle.” Let me explain my daily regimen. I awake at 5:00 A.M., out the house by 5:30 A.M.. Walk sometimes, yep walk, to work which starts at 7:00 A.M. Get off the first part time job at 11:00 A.M. Afterward I am in the computer lab until 10:40 P.M. Sometimes I have a double shift from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.; or a 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. then back to the lab until 10:40 P.M. When the week is done I usually have about 25 hours to 30 hours of a part time job. But my grind is well over 50 hours pursuing filmmaking and writing my books. So, I am typically working a good 80 plus hours in a week.

That means I do more in one week than you will in two. Why is that, because I understand something a lot of people my age don’t and that is that this American Dream everyone talks about is a heavy grind. Well, why is it so heavy. Uh, you don’t think you can work 40 hours per week and excel through the ranks, right. No, no, no; you must be still working while everyone else is relaxing. So by the time they realize it, you’re way past them. But it’s more than just talking about it, you have to put in the work. And this is the part where people fall flat.

This all sounds stressful, but why is it so hard when it looks so easy. Because that is the game, to make you think it’s easy. You can conquer the world. You can be successful beyond your wildest imagination. But the time will wear and tear on the average Joe. You see the internet has really shown us where we are in our lives. In the past, you had to seek out people to know where you stand financially. But now, one click in a Google search engine, and you are able to see how broke you really are in comparison to others. And this is the problem.

You see, America was not designed for everyone to be a baller. Don’t get me wrong, it’s possible, but highly improbable. America was designed to get a middle class paying job, pay your mortgage, car note, and feed your family. Then once your children went off to college, aid them in expenses. So, a strong America is a nation in the middle. Few poor, and a healthy amount rising into the upper class and there you have it. Entertainment has also added to the illusion because you go, “Wait a minute, Jennifer Lawrence was like 22 years old when she hit big with Hunger Games. But what you don’t see is the over 10 years she put in while other children were out playing.

And in the end, there you have it. We are disillusioned about our lives because we look at highly successful people in the now. And the now is the problem because we didn’t see the struggle on the way up. Just understand something, attempt the climb and make the journey. Scary thing is, there are no guarantees of success with all the grind. You may give it your all and still fail. No one wants to fail, but in order to win, you gotta be all in.
