OFF THE CLOCK GIG: MAKING MONEY FROM YOUR SIDE HUSTLE

Hustle Led Signage

“Go get it.”

money after hours

You get up in the morning, get ready for work and then put in eight hours in a day. Then you come home and crash, for which you do this routine five days a week. And then you lounge on the weekends and prepare for the following work week. But what if you could take a few hours after work and on the weekends to make a few extra bucks. Just imagine, it doesn’t even have to be a lot. But something small and relatively helpful would do just fine. Let’s say you make $40,000 per year which is average, but you make an extra $200 per week. That is nearly an extra $10,000 a year in household income. This amount of money can be used for saving, paying off debt, but also for personal needs and wants.

what to do

Making a couple hundred sounds tantalizing, but what will you do to get that money. And also how long will it take to make this income? So many people want to payout, but are they ready to put in the work. And for most people, the idea of failing is too much to bear. So they just work their day job and that’s it. But if you are not doing anything outside of work who cares if you fail. Because anything more than what you were making prior is something. But people don’t see it like that. To them, they don’t want to put a lot into a situation and it formulate into nothing. Yet you cannot be afraid to fail. So go out there and take some risk you never know what could work.

bad debts

Ever get those phone calls from marketers and you just want to hang up but they keep calling. You can now have a means to pay people to stop calling if you have any debts. They can be paid from this small income that you bring into your household. But keep in mind you have debts, it is so easy to take the money and contribute to your wants and forget about the needs.

Brown Framed Eyeglasses

“Getting in the game.”

change in times

As you have noticed over the years, brick and mortar stores continue to close. And the reason they have such a hard time lasting in today’s society is because of the internet. The internet has made doing business offline such a hard task. And the reason being, you can get the same product/service for a cheaper price. And with so many Americans financially struggling, everyone is looking for a deal. Even people with money are now looking for sales in stores. But with this time you have to ask yourself, “How does one say competitive?”

making moves

Now, in order for you to stay relevant, you need more than just a twitter and Instagram page. You need to be more involved in order to get people to come to your business. Unless you have a popular enough place that people spread around word of mouth. You should be hiring someone that will be active constantly on your social media team. You should also host events that will expand your name into the world at large. Now this is something bigger companies are already doing, but what about the small guy. They are not doing these things, but it’s also the reason they’re going out of business. No one knows they exist, they have to do more.

join em or get beat by em

If you want to see yourself succeed in this ever changing society, then get with it. Some people look at social media as a means to connect to potential customers others see it as a waste of time. But you can’t just blow it off because it’s becoming more and more important to have as a way to promote your business. So as much as you don’t want to embrace it, it’s here to stay and very crucial in your business success.

THE NEW W IS AN L: WHY AMERICA IS NOT BUILT ON WINNING ANYMORE

black wallpaper, black-and-white, boxer

“Victory-less!”

a nation of winners

America used to be a nation that pride ourselves on winning. Now, if you look at life with this winning mentality it’s treated like some sort of punishment. Maybe because someone else may not be as good as you, or the idea that we frown on people being on top too long. But for some reason we support the losing more than we do the winning.

If you look at sports, which has put America at the top for do long, we now have to look at other nations that teach the winning mentality we once had, to their children. Now you have countries like Russia, Jamaica, Spain, and even Image result for jamaica sportssmall Eastern European countries pushing themselves past us in sports. Well, how did it start?

the fall

The reason why so much of American winning has fell off is because we have reached this point where all the losers stop wanting to win. And almost operate like they formed their own coalition and are now going after anyone that is perceived to be winning. So much so that companies are now backing people and marketing them as independent to make money.

Because when people see you as a winner they shy away because in their minds you don’t need any further help. And we reached this point not just because of the coalition, but not wanting to continue to rise to the occasion. It’s one thing to win, but staying on top is harder than winning. Anyone can get the “W” but can you hold that spot. So what happened is people got lazy.

is it what it seems

The below photo is of the New York City citizens going to and from trains underground at Penn Station. And when I look at these people, I don’t losers. I don’t see a group of people who want things handed to them. I see go getters, I see hustlers, I seeRelated image hungry Americans. And that’s when it dawns on me that the society we live in is not prided on losing today. We just have this really loud losing bunch and the rest are silent winners. And we have folded to the pressure of the losers’ voices. So in order to capture that winning spirit once again, we must speak up and speak out against the coalition formed that make our children believe mediocrity is the key to prosperity.

POOR MAN’S HUNGER DRIVE: WHY PEOPLE FROM A CERTAIN SOCIOECONOMIC GRIND HARDER THAN OTHERS

Image result for GOALS

“A thick-skinned path to success is tough for people with soft skin.”

As a young man pursuing my career as a writer, photographer, and filmmaker; I will be going through these up and down periods in my life. But what has prepared me for that was growing up in a poor household. With everything that is a downside of life at the bottom, there is this upside. And that upside is that you have this willingness to succeed that no one else has in life. So many people who aim to succeed leave their parents house and return after college having to move back home. But there are the ones who moving back home is not an option because home is not available anymore. These are the students who take college more serious and work through school rather than indulge in a social life. They realize that there is no backup after college and must be working to attain something.

But what are some other reasons as to why the kids born into a household of substantial means don’t have the true grit as the poor. And it goes back to the adversity. When you watch professional athletes, a lot of the greats have come from these poverty stricken environments. They have all the odds stacked up against them and they fight like their lives depend on it. How many well to do kids fight like their lives depend on it? It’s because they work to succeed, but they have a support system there to aid them. When you don’t have anything, and you are put in a position where you’re forced to be better, then you may ultimately win. It has a lot to do with survival. If you took a person from the upper class and told them to hunt in the safari of Africa for food it would be harder than a homeless man not knowing where his next meal will come from.

In the end, for the reasons above are the main reasons why some people of wealth cut their children off financially. Because they want their children to know how to face adversity. What if the family fortune is lost for some reason or another. Then what you’ll have is a self-destruct kid. They have never known what it was like to hustle in life. Now they have to do something and don’t know where to start. So you must throw them out into society and make them fend for themselves. If not, then you’ll turn into an enabler and it could ultimately hurt the child in the end.

ARTS OF THE HUSTLE: THE GRIND OF MAKING A LIVING FROM YOUR CRAFT

Person in Pink T Shirt Holding Brown Electric Guitar Walking on Blacktop Road during Daytime

“You might be starving, but you’re working toward something greater?”

The life of an artist is rough, but if you have something great, you have to keep going strong. But it’s tough when there are so many people, especially those in your age range, who are doing much more than you at the moment. Even though that’s not saying much, it’s still more than what you’re doing. But you can’t compare what you are doing to what they are doing. Your grind, your climb, your road to success is a lot different than them. And you have to embrace the journey along the way. Yet along that journey, there are some things you need to keep in mind as you are climbing toward your goals as an artist. You should always keep your day job in lieu of your craft, be prepared to sacrifice, learn to listen to those worth listening to, embrace the rough periods, put in the time & ready yourself, and know when you’re getting better.

The first bit of advice I have regarding keeping your day job is practical. Don’t just up and quite your job because you are pursuing your craft. I myself work two part-time jobs that subsidize my living while I pursue screenwriting/filmmaking. I have worked jobs ranging from retail to administrative, ushering concerts to small theatre roles. You take on every gig you can take in order to make room for you to stay working at your craft. Which also ties into the next bit of advice. You should also be prepared to sacrifice a lot along your journey. You will have to sit by and watch your enjoying their youth and building intimate relationships. Meanwhile, you’re building slowly while they live. And to add to it, there is no guarantee you’ll succeed. So you just grind away in pain, all the while you neglect aspects of your youth just to push forward in something you love.

And with so much sacrifice that comes with building your dream, you will have the nay-sayers. These are the people who will tell you to give up and quite. They’ll tell you to go and find something better else to do rather than build your dream. They will project their fears onto you because they see you doing something that they can’t accomplish. So to them you must not know what you’re doing. Because why would they be doing what they’re doing. In a very passive way they’re telling you not only are you no good, but you couldn’t possibly be better than them. And on top of the people rooting against you, there are the rough periods that will come along with the climb. These are the times of rough mental and economic obstacles. And what do I really mean by these rough obstacles? Well here is what I mean.

When you’re going through all these rough periods in life, it makes you realize certain aspects about yourself. You first realize how easy it truly is to live alone. You are afraid of being alone, but once you realize the people in your corner versus those that aren’t, it makes the times when you are doing well worth cutting people off. You also learn that along the way, you can live with a lot less than you thought you could at first. For me, I grew up in a poor household, so I thought the only way for me to be well off was to be very rich. Then I realized the real amount of money I would minimally need to make to live. Then pursuing my dream became much easier to fight for in life. And the reason why I have not lost hope is because I have been able to live off the bare necessities, but I also put the time into my work.

And putting the time in is very important. People talk about their craft, yet they barely work at doing what they say they want to do. You have to put yourself in position to make things happen to you. Put yourself in harms way and see what transpires out of the work. Then when you do get your big break, you have prepared yourself to jump right in. Like the old formula of life, opportunity + preparation = successful outcomes. And all of what I have said prior must be coupled together with an understanding of knowing when you’re getting better. Reach out to people and get feedback on your work. And don’t just ask friends and family; ask people with no real attachment so you know how people really feel. Family and friends will always cosign, yet the people will be honest. And in the end, put your soul into whatever it is you do. Even with no guarantee of success; know that you can fail and fall flat on your face but you do it anyways.

THE HIGH COST OF NOTHING: WHY DOING SOMETHING IS WORTH MORE THAN DOING NOTHING

blackboard, board, chalk“I’m not guaranteed to succeed, so why try.”

At times you might figure, why bother trying to succeed in what it is you want to do in life. I should just get a day job and do that for life. There is no use trying to push toward something to only be let down in life. Yet if you don’t do anything with your life you will ultimately fail anyways. So why not push yourself to do well with the hopes of a successful outcome. And the main reason is that people don’t want to deal with the idea of failing. So we choose our paths in life that gives us the most safety. But safety and security is not necessarily the path that will lead to us being the best us. A safe secure life usually means lower to mid range pay and little to no time off of work.

And that is not a life so many people want, but wind-up having for themselves. And for the people that are willing to put the time into making themselves better, they generally are put into positions higher than those that don’t work at their future. And that’s another aspect of why people find it hard to work at their craft and play life safe. Putting the work into your future requires a lot of alone time to reflect and plan. Then you also have to take what you have planned and put it in motion. That’s where you see the difference between the people who can talk a good game, and those that actually go into the world and do. And the ones that do nothing, generally end up not doing anything in life. But what are some other reasons people tend to do nothing and play life safe or fail to succeed at anything.

In addition to the above reasons we choose to do nothing because of the outside influences. The people who say what you’re doing you’re not good enough. They are the ones that either don’t want you to succeed because they weren’t good enough; or they can’t bear to see anyone outshine them. So they try to knock you down to keep you from trying, and maybe succeeding at what they failed to accomplish. So with them as influences, you become in doubt, and soon give up on your ambitions. And this is when you make your fatal mistake. See, the end, it’s not about trying to impress the people around you. You are supposed to run your race in life. You also don’t want to not try out of fear of failure. Because the cost of doing something might overall be less costly than doing nothing at all.

I’M NOT YOUR MOMMY AND DADDY: WHY THE WORLD OWES YOU NOTHING

Image result for ENTITLEMENT

“Always got your hand out.”

In the household where I come from, I was under the impression that no one in this world owed you anything. As a child, my mother let us know that I am doing for you while you’re in this house. But the moment you become an adult, you’re on your own, unless you’re in school or making an effort to be something in life. Yet there was something my mother never wanted to do. She never wanted to start this whole road of something for nothing mindset. Because like I said, the world owes you nothing. Anything in this world you want, you had better be ready to go out and stake your own claim. But where does this entitlement come from in our society?

It hasn’t always been here like it is today. You had prior generations that went out and worked at a young age. As a matter of fact, you had kids in the early 1900’s working in coal minds side by side with their parents. Now days are spent playing video games on televisions or computers. Letting time pass you by while engaging in wasteful activities on cell phones. Which brings us to the first reason why people feel entitled. The technology in America has sped so much up, people think that there should be something allotted to them quick and instant. They don’t realize that the technology itself that speeds so much up took a lot of time to build. And when I say time, I mean some stuff as long as decades to build.

With the click of a mouse or the touch of the screen, we are instantly taken to our destination. That can make people think something should be given to them pretty fast. But it’s not just the technology that makes people think they are owed something. This same mind frame exist in the employment field as well. This whole my 75% is your 100%, and we all should be given something when we are clearly not putting in the same amount of work. A trend that has started from schools in children and has followed all the way into their adulthood. Now that you’re in the real world, you don’t realize that you’re not special. No one is going to hold you close and tell you everything is going to be alright. And that’s when you learn you’re not this beautiful and talented person, but more so that you are mundane because you have not put real time and energy into being great at what you do.

And you would think with what has been said so far, the owing stops there; no it doesn’t. People feel that you have made money, so it is your job to give them something. In their minds, “You have it, why not give me something.” Then they try to use the excuse of God blesses you to help other people. When in reality, that’s true, but there is something they are leaving out. God blesses people to help those who have made an initiative to put themselves in a better place. Giving people things without making them earn it causes you to be a crutch and it cripples them. It also creates a lack of respect that the person has for something you do give to them.

See, in the end, you want something in life, you have to be willing to go into the world and stake your own claim. Because the only person who has a stake in interest in you doing anything is you. I used to ask questions of the elders about back in their young days. I remember how my late grandmother would say growing up in the South, everybody had some plot of land. Didn’t matter how big or small, it still fed your family. And it was important you tended to your land since it depended on how you and your family ate. Because if your crop didn’t come through, your family didn’t eat. You were not owed anything and no one cared. Life was tough, but it was fair because we all have the capability to get out the bed and work. What’s that saying, we all have 24 hours in a day, what you choose to do with yours is your business.
