Who are the people in your life that influence you? They may be the very people in your life as the reason to why your health may be declining. If you are in a relationship with a smoker, you are more at risk at times than they are. Because the second hand smoke is real. But you stay because they are someone you care about. But what about your health and well-being. Is that something that is important to you? Or you know what, forget about the smoking for one second. Let’s say the person or people you’re around don’t eat properly. That could have an effect on the way you consume meals as well. They are eating unhealthy, you’re not going to not indulge. You usually will feast along with them.

We see our friends growing up doing something and don’t want to be left out of the pack. So what do we do, we typically join in on the festivities. And this is the reason why we may end up making the same decisions as them when it’s time to take care of our health. I don’t know too many people who are going to hang around people who engage in unhealthy lifestyles, while not doing it themselves. How many people associate with drug addicts and don’t try it themselves. How may people go to the restaurant and eat a salad while their friends gorge on food.

wanting to make others feel comfortable

You want to eat healthy, and live healthy, but you are afraid as to how your lifestyle will effect others. You don’t want to  be the one where everyone else heads home after work and you’re always in the gym working out. You are always trying to make people fell comfortable. When in reality, it is about your healthy and well-being. You don’t let yourself go to make others feel good about their own situation. If you are not motivation enough, maybe they are not the right group of people to be around.

Living in New York City, I wish there was an ability to grow your own crop. I would love to have a space to grow some type of crop for my own personal consumption. But if you live in the majority of the United States, you can grow your own crop in a garden in your back yard. Or, if you have enough land there are ways to grow more for you and your family. Just make sure your know what you are doing, because growing crops takes more than just digging up the ground and throwing some seed in the Earth hoping to have a successful outcome. But you also want to check on other aspects of growth before you start, such as laws.

You want to start eating healthier foods, but you can’t just go to the store because the cost is so much money. So now you want to grown your crops to consume, but check the laws. In the United States, there are laws prohibiting the growth of certain crops in certain areas of your property. Which means, you may not be able to grow crops in the front yard of your house. But as far as the backyard, there are a lot less regulations. But also, make sure that the crop in the backyard is something you can grow as well. Meaning, strawberries are a better pick to grow, than cabbage because cabbage has a smell that resonates in the air. But beware of strawberries considering mice need fruit for energy. So understand, your health is important, but we do have laws.

surviving the right way

If you want to teach your child/children a great way to self sustain, then teach them how to grow crop. It not only promotes a healthy way to live, but it also shows them how to survive off of the land in which they reside. Before I spoke of the laws concerning growing your own crop, but for those that can, they don’t. Utilizing your land fully to the best of your ability is crucial to your survival. So for those out there with the means and land to do it, go for it. And if you know someone with the land that will allow you to grow, ask them as well.

You look in the mirror, your body looks all together, and to other people you are fine. But when it comes to the doctor’s appointment, you have all these physical ailments. And for the life of people, they don’t get why you may be so sick. Well, the reason for you being sick is not because of how you look, it is the internal makeup of the body. Not everyone is meant to be slim in frame, and not everyone is meant to be heavy in frame. It’s what we consume and it is also the genetic makeup. If you are already predisposed to certain health issues, then think twice about the food you consume.

I have seen women lifting weights and not matter how much they lift, they will never look like a Victoria’s Secret model. They just become a more toned version of themselves. So why are certain people labeled as being big and out of shape. Because some of it may be true, but other times it is the result of a more social norm in our society. But this is also a generational view as well because Marilyn Monroe would be considered a plus size women by today’s standards. So just because you may look a little more on the heavier side, you could be healthier than someone half your size. But it’s always good to get some good health facts.

Moving around is always a good indicator of good health. When you are less mobile because it is hard for you to move about, your health could be failing. I look in the NFL and see men 300 lbs. But they are professional athletes. That is a different 300 lbs. then a guy who just sits around his house eating all day. So you won’t find too many unhealthy people who have great mobility skills.

Whenever you take a sip or even guzzle down a drink, understand this, it’s just like food. Whatever fluid you bring into the body, will inevitably alter the body’s chemistry. So if you bring into the body soda, you will have a breaking down of the body because it is highly acidic, and the sugar content that exist in each soda. Conversely, if you drink water the body is 75% water, so you are bringing into the body something that is natural. Water also has the benefits for the Kidneys in expelling waste. Soda drinks out the body, and this is how you can develop things like Kidney Stones. Well, what about those delicious fruity beverages. Because they have their benefits as well: kiwi, bananas, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, and cherry.

I eat all the fruits I need to be eating, but there is still something wrong with my blood sugar levels. And the problem is because they have quit a bit of sugar in them as well. That is a hard concept to understand because growing you you are always told to eat your fruits and vegetables. Now you have to make sure they balance out as you age. Because something that is suppose to aid you can hurt you when your intake is too high. So you have to bring into play the vegetables, which can also be used as a beverage as well. That’s right, a veggie beverage. And you’re probably wondering what does that taste like.

Me personally, I have never had a veggie beverage. I think the idea of drinking your vegetables is something I can’t find delicious. Now, I am sure there are many health benefits from consuming vegetables this way. And by all means, if there is anyone out there who can tell me of something that is good for you, that also taste delicious, please show me in that direction. Because I am always trying to look for new places to eat food, especially if the food serves some sort of holistic benefit.

We all have someone we look to that makes us strive for something better. That person can be a relative or someone in society that has no attachment to you. When you are young athletes and entertainers inspire you so much do a lot of things in life. But when we get older a lot of times those inspirations that were great to us then are not always the people we hold close to us as we age. Siblings, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends are the people who change our perspective. Very rare do we hold to the other public figures unless they are someone that really changed to way we think and live our lives. But when it comes to health, the people in the public eye are so many of the people that inspire us.

Anyone remember the Tai Bo exercise tapes, or better yet, we all know Richard Simmons. We see these tapes, and for those of us in shape, it really hasn’t impacted our lives. But for the people who needed that extra push to get themselves in shape, Richard Simmons was that man. He didn’t just exercise and explain to you how to stay in shape. He was so animated in making people feel like they were and could be the best version  of themselves. He inspired even the next generation of fitness gurus that dealt with weight problems, or watched someone close to them deal with issues concerning weight.

they are now watching you

Understand that when you start on your path to getting yourself in shape, there are the younger ones watching you. The next generation that will take your cues and persevere in their life’s journey. And even though you may not want the job, it is yours, because you will inspire them as others have inspired you.

what goes inside

We often grab something to eat, downing it into our stomachs, not realizing what we are doing to our bodies. We engage in activities that can cause our bodies harm. And those side effects we don’t feel until time progresses. So I say, your body should be treated with care and it will continue to care for you for a long time. Now, so many people don’t look at the human body as this sacred temple to be cared for until they get older. Once they age and realize it, the damage is far along. So deal with the situation at a young age or deal later.

how we see ourselves

As you take a look in the mirror, do you like what you see? Because if you don’t it will show itself in the decision you make concerning your body. I walk the streets of New York all the time and see people jobbing and power walking. Then you see people shoving the greasy food down their throats. And for them, they are not too willing to give up the bad stuff to make their lives worth living. They also may not care how they see themselves, especially if no one else is checking for them. But we also have to take into account, keeping your body together just takes a lot of work. Work that is beneficial in the end, but hard in the beginning.

take the first step

In order for you to live that healthy life, you have to first start actively caring. Not just reading books and taking notes. That is the minor adjustments, you must do. Live the holistic life and hold true to it. Get yourself into a pattern so that it becomes what you do, and not a job. Because then you’ll start to get frustrated with the lifestyle. It has to be more than just exercise and eating right, it has to be a belief system.

HEALTH CONSCIOUS GENERATION: WHEN DID IT START

Have you ever noticed that we are in a generation where everyone around you is health conscious? All we do in today’s society is count calories. And my question would be when did all this start? Because to me it seems like it came out of nowhere. Or better yet, maybe it’s just a regional thing. Because living in New York City, you see people jogging early in the morning and late at night. Yoga studios are packed and Whole Foods grocery store is tough to navigate the store and the long lines in the produce section. Trust me, I have no problems with it, but when did it start?

early memories

For me growing up, the people who were into fitness was guys like Richard Simmons or the Tae Bo workout tapes by Billy Blanks. Now, over the internet and on television, someone is promoting their healthy way of living. And it has become a very lucrative market. I remember my mother used to attend her weight watchers meetings, now, people hold their own private groups outside the more known name brands. So when you think of exercise, generations past remember only a few people who were promoting their healthy lifestyle. And it actually was from this, the spark of social media gurus came about.

being in the know

With every past generation, we get to be more and more in the know about ourselves as humans. And for that reason, people are more health conscious. Because we have the ability to understand what we were in the past, but we are more aware of the future today. So moving toward the future, the more we know, the more we realize certain things are just not good for us. We won’t reach everyone, but the masses hopefully we do.
