FAIR INEQUALITY: THE REAL REASON MALE AND FEMALE ATHLETES PAY DIFFER

People Running during Daytime

“All about the dollar.”

the art of the deal

As you notice over the years the athletic contracts are getting bigger and bigger. But what you don’t see are too many women getting signed to major deals. And what would be the reason for them not getting the big dollars like their male counterparts? Could it be because they are women, or maybe because of the money? Men sports generate more dollars than that of females. So wouldn’t make more sense that the men earn more. Because if you think of what Lebron James is to Nike, why would any woman make the same amount? So why all the fight over bigger contracts when it’s obvious why there is an inequality?

the women who win

Let’s not act like there aren’t women who are making more than top males in sports: Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Lindsay Von, Caroline Wozniacki, Danica Patrick, Ronda Rousey, and a few others. Now notice some of the women I named are tennis players. That is because the highest paid female athletes are tennis players. Why, well it’s because the sport of tennis is more appealing and bring in more attention from fans than any other female sport. So to assume it’s anything else could only be described as misleading. But, even in tennis the men are higher paid than the females. Roger Federer (approx. $77 million in 2018) being the highest paid male and Serena Williams (approximately $18 million in 2018) being the highest paid female.

same sex support

How come you don’t see more support from the female side of sports? When you look at the NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, you see jerseys that are made specifically to target a female demographic. And it usually consists of the color pink and white or black, or even both. Most women just wear the regular jersey. And the reason for women not supporting other women sports as much as the men is simply because it is not as exciting even to other women. Watching the NBA playoffs and finals are better to women than the WNBA finals. And that is why tennis has so much attention because it has that appeal to it.

GENDER ENCOURAGEMENT: WHY AREN’T GIRLS PUSHED LIKE BOYS IN SCHOOL

Photo of Four Girls Wearing School Uniform Doing Hand Signs

“We need them as much as we need us.”

girls! girls! girls!

In schools, we have always encouraged the boys more than we have encouraged the girls. When the hard work must be put in, we have always told the boys, this is what you should be doing. Then leave the less strenuous work for the girls. And that is a major aspect of why boys have become more successful than girls over time in school. And also in life the boys have gone off to do great things because you have to be pushed. You have to deal with a great deal of hardships and go through some suffering and pain.

lean in

Current Chief Operating Officer of Facebook Sheryl Sandberg wrote a book about why we should push young girls, why young girls don’t get the same encouragement as boys, and why girls become women who are not prepared for the world ahead. In an article written in 2013 for ABC news entitled, “Top 10 Facts You Don’t Know About Girls’ Education,” a list of reasons was outlined as to the effects young girls deal with on a daily.

  1. 65 million girls are not in school globally
  2. Of the 123 million young people between ages 15 – 24 that can’t read or write, 61% are female.
  3. Half of children not in school living in conflict-ridden countries are 55% girls
  4. Over 70 million children unable to have basic education in world; and over half are girls

giving motivation

How do we get them to be as great as the boys? We first have to start off by not cuddling them more than the boys. And yes, there is a certain softness that men and women have with their daughters than their sons. But we have to be careful how much because the world is not a soft place. And if we are too sensitive, then it’s going to be a culture shock when these girls step into the world.

GIVE HER A PUSH: WHY AREN’T WOMEN ENCOURAGED AS MUCH AS MEN

Image result for SANDBERG

“They need a push just as much as we do.”

us and them

In the United States, as with worldwide, men are encouraged in a different way than women. We are pushed out into the world sooner than women, and expected to take lead more than women. While women at young ages are told to stand on the sidelines and let men do the leading. The above photo is of COO of Facebook Sheryl Sandberg who wrote a book about this very topic. How women are not as encouraged as men, and why it’s harder for women to get raises on jobs like men. But is there just a social aspect to leading or is there a more biological reason why?

social reasons

When little girls are growing up, they are not encouraged to do as boys do. And I am not referring to going to school. I mean putting yourself in positions that get you hurt emotionally and at times physically. Then need to love ones self is not as strongly pushed so girls compare themselves to other girls in school and in the public eye. But we also never give girls the suck it up speech. When boys are young we’re told, “Shut up and suck it up,” “Deal with it.” You know as a guy early on that failure is apart of life because it’s been pumped into your head at such a young age. So when failure happens we charge it to the game. But girls, we cuddle them too much; treating them like they’re too delicate to handle hurt early on. Then women are tossed into the thralls of the world where people could care less and you get hurt. Now, taking lumps becomes new and a lot more difficult.

nature

On the other hand, we not only have the social reasons as to why women are not pushed like men, but the natural reasons. Nature plays a role because when a women is more likely to want to share a position than hold the top spot. Not just in work places, but also in monogamous relationships. Men not only want the top spot, but we are completely content with the idea that there are people underneath us. Especially in cases of dating where we want to be the one in control. Yet it’s harder for women to respect and love a man where she takes the lead all the time. But for guys, we like the lead.

progression in time

Women have taken on roles more and more over the years. But still, we don’t encourage girls as much as boys. So boys are more than ready to step into the world because we deal with the lumps at an early age. We don’t force girls to take their lumps at an early age. Girls are not forced to take loses, and suck it up and deal. But boys are taught that dealing is apart of manhood, so learn it now to prepare yourself for adulthood.

UNPOPULAR SPEECH: WHY WE MUST PROTECT IT

Image result for HATE SPEECH

“As much as we hate it, we have to protect it.”

Hate speech is free speech, what some have stated. But whether we realize it or not, hate speech is protected under the United States constitution. But a large reason why we have to protect even hate speech, is because once we administration, america, artstart giving up the ability to talk freely, then what next. Another reason we
must protect all speech is because who makes the decision on what’s hate. I have things I define as hate speech, but not everybody sees it that way. I may think one of my political views is right, while someone else sees it as a hateful thing to stand behind. And conversely speaking, what I dislike and see as hate speech is fine by someone else.

But lets go back to why we must protect even hate speech. For starters, it’s Related imagehard to protect a verbal means of communication that is probably geared toward not liking you. Only problem is, once I form a coalition to stop these individuals from speaking, then how long will it be before my rights are trampled on. Meaning, former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick was seen Related imageas hateful for not standing for the national anthem at a football game. But political commentator Ann Coulter was seen as pushing hate speech and was banned from Berkley College’s campus. Both expressing a freedom of speech, and both protested.

Now, Ann is in a different position considering she is an independent worker and Colin played for a team, but nonetheless expressed their free speech. They both not only expressed their right, but also did so in alignment with the laws of the land. And yet, a conservative right and liberal left silenced them both. While at the same time screamed my own rights are Image result for bill of rightsbeing infringed upon. Which brings me to another reason you must protect all speech because we are losing our rights in America. But we’re willing to take them from each other. It’s not even the government intervention. We’re taking each other’s rights, spying on each other in hopes of finding anything to take someone else’s job.

Now, another issue is brought into light with why you can’t censor someone’s speech. And that is, what is hate speech really? I have my interpretation for what is hate speech. But that is just the key word, “interpretation.” What I like may be seen as hate speech, and what you Related imagefollow might be seen as hate speech. This is why all speech must be protected no matter how incendiary. Because what we define as hate speech is so broad and wide, we we must allow all speech. As a matter of fact a way to deal with hate speech is more speech around hate speech. And if it’s hateful, let the people show their faces. We don’t want them hiding in the background, we want them up front where we can see them.

And in the end that’s the biggest problem. The fact that we are actively trying to censor people just because we disagree is so arrogant. Because it assumes we, as the person censoring them, have all the right answers. And Low Section of Man Against Skywe don’t because my truth and fact might be different as time progress. And
that next generation’s truth changes as well. So with so much changing in our society, we have no choice but to open up the forum for conversation. And if you disagree, how about the right to be offended. Yet it still never sinks in, until it’s too late. And by the time it’s too late, we’ve all would have already relinquished control; and it’ll be our own fault.

FRIENEMIES OF AMERICA: WHEN YOUR ALLIES MIGHT ALSO YOUR ENEMIES

Image result for GENTRIFICATION

“Ever get the feeling they hate as well?”

The United States have always been a place of constant conflict. No matter if it were related to ethnicity, religion, or gender. We have had these various social issues going back to when this land was under the control of Great Britain. But in today’s society the issues have been just as social, and directed at our new commander in chief. Since Donald J. Trump was elected president, there have been constant protest against him. The most recent controversy was last week when comedian Kath Griffin was pictured with a headless bloodied-face Trump. She has not only lost her CNN New Years Eve gig, but also a few sponsorships. But, pertaining to the people who dislike him, you ever get the feeling they are dishonest as well.

And when I say dishonest, I mean as it pertains to the same reasons they dislike the president. Trump is disliked for a number of reasons, but a few stick out the most: racial, gender, and religious. So are the people who hate him for these reasons, are themselves against the very groups that they accuse him of not liking. I pride myself on being a little more liberal than conservative, but I get the feeling the liberals are no different. I get the feeling that these liberals dislike Trump because they are afraid of their own disdain for groups poking through. What do I mean by their own held feelings about certain groups.

Well, for starters, the racial aspect of America. And when I say racial, I am obviously not pertaining to the human race, but more so how we use racial socially. You have these liberals that don’t like Trump, yet they are gentrifying Black and Latino areas, moving out groups. They are not built on keeping people and preserving culture. They remove the current culture, and adopt their own in the name of cool or trendy. Like changing the name of parts of Harlem to SOHA or Washington Heights NYC to Upper Manhattan. Yet these are the people with anti-Trump signs. They can’t see that they are the same as him, maybe even worse. They attack him for language, but their actions are far more detrimental.

What about the religious angle people on the left try to take. He is seen as xenophobic as it pertains to Muslims. But when I walk into the airport, even before Trump ran for president, people get uncomfortable with Muslims. And when I say uncomfortable, I mean the attire they sport. Mainly how the women are expected to dress. But the moment he comments on it, people get upset. But when I see the discomfort from people, it throw me off because he is supposed to be the xenophobic one. Not the liberals, they should embrace the diversity of people. Yet, there is something that is triggered when Muslim women and men are around wearing traditional garb. But what about the gender conversation?

In the United States, gender has always been a debate. But when Trump was caught in conversation regarding women, it became that much more controversial. It even prompted women in fashion to not sit next to his daughter Tiffany because of him. But then I started to think, don’t the fashion industry get criticized each year for campaigns that place unrealistic physical expectations on young women. Or the fact that they push against the use of women like Ashley Graham, a plus size model, on ad campaigns. That hypocrisy is something they have to be willing to shift as well. Can’t attack him, and continue to push into young women’s minds that they are not good enough because their bodies don’t look a certain way.

In the end, you are going to always have people who tell you not to do something, that they do themselves. We all use the excuse, “You’re held to a higher standard.” And that is true, but you’re also held maybe not to that equal standard level, but more so to that standard obligation. Meaning you shouldn’t be doing it, but he really shouldn’t be doing it. So on a scale of one to ten, he is a ten, but you’re still like a two or three. Don’t use someone else’s standard as a means to be rude yourself. If you feel he hates Muslims, don’t get uncomfortable around Muslims for that same reason. Attack is meant for things that he does that we don’t deem acceptable. Because a leader represents your country. Yet, if we are just as uncomfortable as Trump, he actually does represent the sentiment of the nation.
