RAPE CULTURE

WHAT IS THIS

I have written about this in the past, but for this topic I want to cover where it may have come from in society. Because I grew up never hearing about this phrase until I became an adult. So, to me, I want to figure out where this came from so I can try to understand why it has boomed over the recent years. So many people have gotten in trouble for statements they have made and behavior they have exemplified. Let’s go for a second back in time to try to figure things out.

IS THE PAST THE PRESENT

What decade did this culture of rape start in the country. Because there was never a time when people a culture rape in this nation. Yet when you talk to people, we have a tendency to shift blame on the past indiscretion. Like for example, women worked in places where the boss would make passes at them. But the only thing is that to what degree did this take place. Because we have laws that concern this type of behavior, but it is not always based on a culture of this behavior. It could be a few incidents that caused a big enough stir to make this a law. That’s not saying it was only a few, but that’s all it takes to make the laws change.

CAN’T SAY TODAY IS BETTER

If the culture of this type of behavior started in the past, why is the present so much worse? Well, maybe because it didn’t start in the past. Because yes, I said there were cases prior that forced laws to change. But even in the past, there were rules and guidelines for how one should be carrying themselves. And a lot of this pertained to young men and dealing with women. We don’t have that code system in today’s society, so everything changed. The rate of women has jumped over the decades. But why, and if it is a culture issue, the culture is more recent than distant past.
