Walking the halls of certain high schools, you can’t help but to notice there is a major population issue with some of them. And the issue has been a problem for some time now. But how do schools districts deal with the overcrowding issues at area schools? Should they build another school? Should they go down a list of students who are tardy and start eliminating them that way? Should schools be encouraged to push students into earlier graduations?

The cost associated with overcrowding are not just monetary for a school. The other non-monetary cost are the inability to focus in a classroom. And the other cost is the lack of connection made between student and their educator. These are more long-term effects of a school that follow a student even after they graduate from high school. But the biggest has to be the problem with trying to teach in a class where there are just too many in the classroom. And with disruptions that generally occur, the student would be better off teaching themselves. Because the students that want to learn are not getting anything from the lessons anyways.

I gave a few options in how to deal with the issues surrounding overcrowding in schools. But one option that may be overlooked is trying to get students to graduate early. Find the students who are higher performing, and give them incentives into leaving high school early. Aid them in scholarship money for early graduation and that could decrease numbers in schools. You could also observe who is the most disruptive, and remove those students as well that negatively effect a learning environment.

In today’s society, self educating has become a major way in which people are learning to do anything in life. And there is a name for people who are able to self-educate; they are called autodidacts. I myself am an autodidact, and have been for quit some time now. Few people fall under this category because it’s so hard to self educate. You must have a great deal of patients and a willingness to learn. Because you are on your own for not just hours, but months and even years.

It’s very difficult for a lot of people to work on something and then deal with the idea of failure. It requires swallowing a pill that you don’t have to do when learning through an educator. The educator can show you where you went wrong and aid you through the problems. When self taught, you may get help from time to time, but for the most part you’re on your own. So this means failing, being honest with yourself and realizing when failure arises, and correcting mistakes. And being honest with self is something most can’t do because we think we’re so important and special. No one wants to openly admit they are awful at anything.

major upsides

There are so many great things that can come from self-educating. And the biggest is that when you step into world being in a classroom, it’s a lot different than the real landscape. But when you have gone through all the trials self-taught, you know what you’re up against. In a classroom, there is no studying for a test, the test is life. And it’s a test where you get a chance to use your notes in the classroom. And in the real world you have to make things happen. And we see all the upsides from some very talented people from online stores to running small brick and mortar businesses. Self-taught is the new wave, but how many will last is the real question?

LOST INTENTIONS: WHY THE TELEVISION LOST ITS ORIGINAL USE

When the television was first invented, it was designed to be used as a tool to educate the public. Now, the television is used as a medium to entertain people. Image result for first tvAnd for the longest, the entertainment came from the radio. So how and why did it change over time? Because I think the television can still be used as an educational tool, but we choose not to use it for such method.

what have we learned

Once we realized in society that we could use not only language, but the imagery coming from the television as a means to push an agenda, that is when television transformed. Because now you have a way to dramatically play out what it is you have to say. Before on radio, you had to conjure up your own image, which forced people to have a creative mind.

But today, television doesn’t make you think anymore. And that comes from having to compete with the internet. So now, the television is more so built around who can get information out there the fastest, not necessarily who can educate the public. Yet, the public ourselves can still be educated, but choose not to. Then again, what is real and fake anymore in our society.

What’s interesting about the television’s original use, is that it still exist, but on the internet. And it exist on the YouTube website. That’s right, YouTube is not only a website where we listen to music and watch entertaining content, but there are also tutorials to learn trades. Anything you want to learn, someone has a YouTube channel dedicated to teaching you.

Doesn’t matter if it’s woodcarving, painting, or even learning mathematics, someone has a video for it. This would be a case of the television innovated from what it was in it’s origins.

what next

With the continuous innovation of the AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) capabilities what will be the next tool for learning. Because these headsets are already trying to make their way into schools across the country. Image result for ar and vrBut eventually, they will prove to be a problem as well. And then, we’re going to have to continue past this point as well.

GIVE EM THE FACTS: WHY MORE PARENTS SHOULD BE TRANSPARENT

Ever since I was a child, my mother made it her business to prepare my and sisters and I for the world ahead. And it was quite helpful, as I can tell you so far everything I was taught I have experienced. From dealing with people who try to get over, to dealing with jobs and the stress that comes with that as well. But my question which ties into the topic today is, why don’t more parents prepare their children for the real world? And I don’t mean raising them to be responsible and hard working. I’m talking about, with what you experience. Tell them in detail how society has impacted your life, and the real relationships you’ll encounter in adulthood. Most parents either tell children, “You’ll see,” or “work hard.” But these are very vague responses. They don’t provide much insight.

And what do I mean by providing a little more insight. Tell children how, especially when you get out of school, that your degree alone won’t help them get a job. Tell them how when you get out, chances are, you’re going to be working a job you hate initially. Landing a dream job takes more skills and more work. Explain to them how your supervisor may ask you to do something, and when you do that order in which you were given, the order fails. Then instead of the boss taking respectability for being wrong, they transfer blame onto you. Because their incompetence will cost them their job, they have to make you look stupid. And you can’t flip out on them because you will lose your job, and you need your job. So you learn to suck it up even when you’re right, and you grow to resent your job. Tell them the whole game.

Explain to them when they get in relationships that there is a control aspect to being in the relationship. Someone may want to have the upper hand in your life just because they are with you. And this may require detaching from them, and starting fresh with someone else. Tell your child how emotional people get once they start having sex, and how someone might try to use this as a means of controlling you as well. Know when to get out of a toxic situation and how. But while you’re teaching them this, make sure to tell them that you should never give anyone any bit of your time not willing to reciprocate. You don’t want to be your child’s friend, but make them realize they should come to you before their friend because you and only you are in their best interest. Also tell them how to manage their finances.

Teach your child that when you get a check, you don’t run to the store and spend, spend, spend. Living for today and not tomorrow is not smart. We might not wake up tomorrow is a reality, but plan for tomorrow, hell even next week even if it doesn’t happen. Money can be considered the root of all evil, but you need it to survive. So explain how you may or may not need wealth, but you don’t want poverty. And tell them how they can be somewhere in the middle. Teach them to know what they’re getting into before they get involved. Meaning, if you are comfortable with all the risk of making a decision, make it, but also live with it. And in the end, everything I have said was explained to me by my mother growing up. She spoke to her children like adults, not like her kids. We knew because she told us; so now I ask you, “Do you tell yours the truth?”

GPA, WHO CARES: HOW IMPORTANT ARE GRADES REALLY?

All my life in school I was taught that if you are not getting the grade in school, you are setting yourself up for failure. How are you not up late night studying for an exam or doing the homework? If you are a “C” student, then you are not going places in life. Now, if you are a straight “A” student then you are in position to make things happen for yourself in life. No one cares about other aspects of school, like your ability to learn subjects that interest you, how long you are willing to toil away at a subject, or even your ability to bounce back from adversity. Because a lot of those “A” students are so used to getting good grades, they have a hard time coming back from anything bad in college or in life. Why else do these good kids fall so hard?

Because when you grow up in school, the teacher will gravitate toward the good student/s. And when that good kid goes to college, the professor has no problem giving you a failing grade. They are not going to care who you were prior to college. And this is the first time in your life you have had a poor grade. So they at times can spiral downward. The kid who didn’t get higher grades have had to grind in the face of being told you can’t succeed outside the grade. The “C” student might be an “A” student in life, but they are not good in school. I can tell you for sure that school and life is so different. School is this structural environment that makes you study minus the notes. But in life you’re allowed to use your notes and all other materials for your personal gain. You have to go get it in life, not brought to you.

Schools like to scare kids into telling them things about the real world that is real, but also somewhat of a distraction. Because when you step into the real world, everything up to that point that is not relevant to work experience means nothing. You have to prove yourself, and if you are not use to proving yourself, then no one cares about anything you have done in this world. That is why grades are important, but like I said before, a little bit of a distraction. Because I was not the best kid in English growing up, yet I self-published two books this year, and working on my second short film script. But, I also taught myself everything about writing on my own. People feel since I didn’t learn in an academic environment I can’t possibly write. But writing is writing; and to get better you must continue to write well.

In the end, grades are not the end all be all, but schools look at it that way. To me, it is not just a way of ranking people in classrooms, it’s about providing exclusivity in the schools. If every kid in the classroom gets an “A” then the teacher gets reprimanded because the course is too easy. If too many fail, then the course is too hard. So we structure schools that so many can’t do well, then grade them in life on the basis. Let me tell you, it’s not that; you are not going to fail in life because of a grade. Succeeding in life has to do with perseverance, will, determination, consistency, hard work, and persistence.

BIRTH RITE: WHY ARE YOU HERE

“Why were put on this earth?”

To ask the question why you were put on this earth is quite odd because we all know why were placed on this earth. Your father’s sperm and your mother’s egg; and in 9 months you were brought into existence. No, no, no, I am referring to why you wake up every single day. So many people wake up in the morning, just to exist until the next day. I heard a quote once that stated if you’re living for Friday and dreading Monday, you’re not living. Then what should you be doing? It’s easy to say what you shouldn’t do. But how many people have the skills and know how to go out into the world and be who they should be.

Note that I said should be instead of what everyone else wants from you. Because what you expect from you is who you should be, but other people will tell you to do this or that. But how dare they! How dare they assume they know something about you: you strengths, your weaknesses, your skills, your intellect. They don’t know you, that’s why it’s called self-awareness. You must have a sense of self so when people make assumptions you can correct them.Yet self awareness comes with a lot of time knowing yourself. I guess it’s why I have stayed single for so long so I am not determined by way of the relationship that I am in.

But all of this still leaves questions as to what is our purpose on this earth. Well, once you understand your self worth and become aware, then you can define your purpose. And that purpose can be to educate, to learn, to feed people, to fight tyranny,  to prophesied, and/or to lead. Note that I didn’t include to earn money. Understand that making an income is good for surviving in the world. But when your purpose for existence is to work, there could be some downsides to this. For instance, if you shall ever lose your job, your reason for existence diminishes as well. So your purpose has to be something outside of your career.

In the end, you have to figure out what is it you are here to do. What is sad is that most people will never find their purpose. They will live their whole lives not knowing why they were here. And that is a fear of mine. Which is why I took it upon myself to work at my purpose. Now, I have not started yet, but I know to a degree that purpose.
