INCREASE YOUR BASE: HOW LEARNING OUTSIDE OF YOUR STUDIES IS IMPORTANT

Pile of Covered Books

“Read, understand, put to use.”

please read

Ever wonder why certain people are able to think a certain way as it pertains to their vocabulary or their ability to rationalize subject matter. The reason being is that they have built a base for themselves because of all of material they have read over the years. And that is something a lot of people just don’t do. And if they do read it’s usually a fictional novel. They very rarely read books that are based in different forms of science. Rarely do they read or wonder how the world around them operates on an atomic level.

where did that come from

Ever been watching Jeopardy and saw someone firing out random answers and getting them right. And I am not referring to the people on the game show. I’m talking about the people at home. Well, the reason they can just shoot off random answer like that is because of the base they have accrued over time. Unbeknownst to them, they are able to guess these answers without even knowing where it came from, but it’s there in your head.

bor-ing

People have a hard time building a base because they see what is being read as irrelevant to them. And that’s what keeps them from building a base, thus not being able to call back when information is needed that will be useful in their lives. Now, is it all about boredom, no, but so many people are just not in the mood to learn new things. They work all week and just want time to have fun or to themselves. The last thing they want to do is continuously work.

the paradigm

As you live and read and learn, you don’t really understand what it is you’re learning to do. What are going to use all this information for in the end? So as you go to sleep and wake up, you learn and learn. But with the learning and learning, you continue to progress. And that progression comes from the base you built over time.

CONTINUOUS LIFE LEARNING: WHY WE STOP LEARNING AT A CERTAIN AGE

Silhouette of Man

“Read more and learn more.”

why we stop

As adults, the vast majority of us will reach an age where we completely stop learning. And when I say completely stop learning, I mean academically. And the age we stop is young, usually in our mid 20’s. That is odd considering the average person lives to be 78 years of age. So for the next 50 years, people rarely pick up a piece of material out of curiosity and learn something new. Only problem is that when there is a new way of life in a civilization that creates a new lane for growth, people have a hard time matriculating.

learn wash learn

The brain has to be cleaned at every stage of life so that you make room for new information otherwise you don’t evolve past where you are in life. So let’s say you want to move from being poor to middle class. You have to clean your mind of what keeps you in poverty and replace that with new information. You learn things that are not taught to you in schools by an instructor. This way you’re ahead of the curve past those that are not interested in learning anything new.

mental status

Our emotional state has a lot to do with why we have a hard time learning. If you are not in the best place in life, you will have a hard time focusing and concentrating on important subject matte. You will spend a lot of your time in a rut and slump. So anything that comes your way that can possibly help you, you reject the information. And some people are so dependent on their slump that they become content and never grow.

CEREBRAL REACH: WHAT IT TAKES TO HARNESS 100 PERCENT OF THE HUMAN MIND

analysis, blackboard, board

“Think about all the possibilities.”

the brain

The human brain is a very interesting and very complex organ in the human body. For the longest there has been a myth that humans only use 10% of our human brains. But that is such a bad myth, when in fact we use 100% of our brains throughout the day. The reason we have said 10% in the past is because we use such a small portion of our minds to its full potential. And that is where the confusion takes place. There is a difference between the brain in use and using the brain. Is there a science behind being able to harness the brain to its full potential? Is there a model that can be used to tap into the brain?

daily task

For the most part, our brains are used to get through the day performing mundane task. These task include cooking breakfast, completing a task on the job, exercising during the day, and raising children once you get home. These are repetitious daily task we do so much we no longer think to do them. And there lies the problem with the reason man is not able to harness the brain to its full potential of both physical and mental resources. Very few of us learn new things in life, so we stop evolving past a certain point. But for the curious ones that do continuously learn, they grow past everyone else.

use it or lose it

The brain is like any other muscle in the body that you must work over time. Just as you exercise your chest with bench pressing, or squats for leg strength, you must read to open your mind to new possibilities. You would think that I read a lot of novels pursuing writing, but I don’t. I actually read about psychology, health, motivation, biology, and social interactions. This aids in me writing characters for my screenplays because I know to a degree the human construct. So creating scenarios is easier than reading someone else’s work that is fiction. But in this, I observe people in society and base my claims about the life around all of us from the observation when people don’t think they are being watched. Which is usually the real behavior. That is how I use my mind.

scientific findings

There are so many findings in science, but I would really like to find the science of some people just born to know. I know there all these factors that play a role in those who can harness their mind to do better in life, than those that don’t succeed. Because I will be writing something not realizing how that idea got there, but it is there. Even before I started working the brain, things manifested within me. Hopefully science will be able to figure out what makes some of us able to figure out ourselves while others can’t. Below is a video from → National Geographics on the science behind the brain.

GPA, WHO CARES: HOW IMPORTANT ARE GRADES REALLY?

Related image

“Is it really a determinant in life?”

All my life in school I was taught that if you are not getting the grade in school, you are setting yourself up for failure. How are you not up late night studying for an exam or doing the homework? If you are a “C” student, then you are not going places in life. Now, if you are a straight “A” student then you are in position to make things happen for yourself in life. No one cares about other aspects of school, like your ability to learn subjects that interest you, how long you are willing to toil away at a subject, or even your ability to bounce back from adversity. Because a lot of those “A” students are so used to getting good grades, they have a hard time coming back from anything bad in college or in life. Why else do these good kids fall so hard?

Because when you grow up in school, the teacher will gravitate toward the good student/s. And when that good kid goes to college, the professor has no problem giving you a failing grade. They are not going to care who you were prior to college. And this is the first time in your life you have had a poor grade. So they at times can spiral downward. The kid who didn’t get higher grades have had to grind in the face of being told you can’t succeed outside the grade. The “C” student might be an “A” student in life, but they are not good in school. I can tell you for sure that school and life is so different. School is this structural environment that makes you study minus the notes. But in life you’re allowed to use your notes and all other materials for your personal gain. You have to go get it in life, not brought to you.

Schools like to scare kids into telling them things about the real world that is real, but also somewhat of a distraction. Because when you step into the real world, everything up to that point that is not relevant to work experience means nothing. You have to prove yourself, and if you are not use to proving yourself, then no one cares about anything you have done in this world. That is why grades are important, but like I said before, a little bit of a distraction. Because I was not the best kid in English growing up, yet I self-published two books this year, and working on my second short film script. But, I also taught myself everything about writing on my own. People feel since I didn’t learn in an academic environment I can’t possibly write. But writing is writing; and to get better you must continue to write well.

In the end, grades are not the end all be all, but schools look at it that way. To me, it is not just a way of ranking people in classrooms, it’s about providing exclusivity in the schools. If every kid in the classroom gets an “A” then the teacher gets reprimanded because the course is too easy. If too many fail, then the course is too hard. So we structure schools that so many can’t do well, then grade them in life on the basis. Let me tell you, it’s not that; you are not going to fail in life because of a grade. Succeeding in life has to do with perseverance, will, determination, consistency, hard work, and persistence.

PODCASTING: DEVELOPING YOUR ON AIR VOICE

Related image

“How will I sound: natural or unnatural?”

Since the beginning of the summer, I have been prepping myself for the podcast show that I am looking to create. It will be a scripted podcast geared toward motivation and inspiration. And the reason I chose to have a podcast geared toward this topic is because it not only puts me in better space mentally, but also society. People need an alternative to everything that is going in the world today. Especially with the politically divisive United States right now. The country is so split down the middle that we need an alternative to the daily news. So Faheem Jackson Words of Motivation and Inspiration Podcast Show will be live by the year 2018. But my main goal now is developing a voice for myself.

And when I say develop a voice for myself, I mean my sound. I know what I want to talk about and how I want to talk about it. But for me, I am working on getting used to hearing my voice. How does my voice sound to me versus how does it sound to other people? Will my message come across to people in a clear and concise manner? How will I approach reading to my audience from a script on my podcast? And all of this is something that I will have to continue to work on. I even practice through the use of Instagram videos of myself and posting for people to see and hear. To me, my voice sounds fine because then again, it’s my voice. But what is my voice to someone who doesn’t know me. We get so used to our own voices, we don’t really know what it sounds like until someone tells us.

Living in New York City, my accent sounds different to people living here. But to me, it’s a normal voice. I’m asked all the time, “Are you from the South?” And my reply is always, “No, I’m from the Midwest.” But to me, they are the ones with the accent. So, with that said, do I change my voice to fit into my environment? But, on the other hand, what if someone from New York hear my real voice outside of the podcast. Then they’ll see me as less authentic, and then it will turn them off of me. People might much rather listen to my real voice. Because me being comfortable in this different environment could be seen as respected. It’s hard to listen to someone talking motivation and inspiration, if the person is so viewed as unauthentic.

And in the end, that is the toughest job in trying to connect to people. Do they view you in an authentic light. That’s why it’s important to script out my podcast as clear and concise as possible. And practice what I plan on writing out, this way it comes across as if I am knowledgeable about what I discuss.

THOUGHT

Image result for LIGHT BULB

“Are your thoughts your thoughts?”

“I think therefore I am.” “Your thoughts become reality.” “I believe this to be true therefore it is.” We as humans always want to feel that just because I think something is true makes it true. Now, this has a possibility of being true because like I said prior, your thoughts become reality. You think something, it becomes your process, then your action, and then it’s what your life becomes. Well, when does the thought become unreal? It becomes unreal once the thought blocks you from logical thinking.

What I mean by logical thinking is that we want to think that our belief systems mean something just because we believe it. The problem with this frame of thought is we don’t realize certain thoughts and feelings exist because things have been laid out for us in the past. And the past at times dictate the present. Meaning, 100 years from now, Gay marriage won’t be a topic of discussion. Why, well people will think they agree because it’s their thought, but won’t realize it was put in play 100 years ago. The same is for dating in certain age ranges. 100 years ago a 16 year old marrying a 30 year old man was normal. But today we frown on it not because we feel that way, we were born in a time where the laws changed.

With what has been said, why is it so hard for people to acknowledge the truth? People find it hard to do so because they can’t stomach the fact that their belief system means nothing. If what they believe means nothing, then what else is not true in their lives. Ultimately they have to live with the idea that their lives may have been a waste. This is fine if you are in your early adulthood; there is still time to change. But if you are toward the end of your life, then yes, your life may have not meant anything. So how does one keep this from happening?

You keep it from happening when you open up your mind to learning new things. Having new experiences in life on a consistent basis. Your learning will force you to challenge new thoughts and you gain new insight into the world around you. That is a major issue with the world is that we don’t like putting ourselves in the know. We reject so much new information because we get set in our ways. The problem with getting set in a way is that if there is any new information presented that is needed to replace the old and you are still on the old, you are left behind. Meaning it’s nearly impossible for you to function in the general population. This renders you obsolete in society.

So in closing, when your thoughts become reality, this can be good, so long as the thought align with rational thinking. The problem is we all think we are rational. We all feel that we have that one magic word which will change everyone’s mind. But it never quite pans out that way. But the thoughts we harbor can also be a killer if we retain thoughts that become antiquated. making it impossible to live in the world.
