DISADVANTAGE EDUCATION: WHAT SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT KIDS LIVING IN AREAS OF POOR EDUCATION

building, ceiling, classroom

“Poor at no fault of their own.”

poverty stricken

For myself, growing up in a poor community, I could have easily fell victim to the poor education crisis most major cities fall victim to. But since I was from a small city where kids of all economic backgrounds went to school, that wasn’t the case. But now that I live in New York City, I see the issues with kids living in poorer neighborhoods and the education gap with them versus middle class or even upper middle class. The children born poor, at no fault of their own, have much lower standard of education that they’re receiving than kids in higher income areas.

the conundrum

There is a dilemma that children growing up in these areas face. Because people always say, they don’t want to learn, but tax dollars being pulled from these environments are poor. So it becomes the kid’s fault that they are ready for college because they come from poverty. And that is where the conundrum comes from in their lives. It’s the fault of elementary students to high school students that they receive poor education. Whomever thinks that is rational is irrational themselves. But is that all there is to it? Should we be just outwardly placing kids in schools?

nothing given changes things

Prior I said nothing should be outwardly given to kids in disadvantaged communities. Meaning, living here in New York City, we are experiencing an issue where Black and Latino kids are being pushed out of specialized schools; but are they really? The East Asian students are coming from households where parents don’t even speak the language of the test their children are about to take, but the kids pass. So in my opinion, placing kids in the schools don’t change anything. Aiding in preparation materials that makes the kids eligible is how you go about the situation. As well as having a cultural identifier that places emphasis on education. Because placing kids doesn’t fix the problem. The Asian kids were prepared because of the structure of the groups as well. So we should aid poor communities, but from a more practical standpoint.

KNOWING ISNT ALWAYS KNOWING: HAVING AN EDUCATION IS NOT EDUCATED

Books in Black Wooden Book Shelf

“Knowing too much of nothing.”

the learned

We have so many people in our world who are scholarly individuals. But what happens when you’re dealing with a person with such a high aptitude as it pertains to learning, but they have no true knowledge of the world in which they live. Meaning, they can break down Albert Einstein equations, but they lack the common sense in dealing in society.

falling into the trap

So many people are under the illusion that if you go to college and attain your degree in your field, you qualify to be some sort of expert. When in reality, that is just the foundation for what you know. Meaning, a degree in sociology only qualifies you to really say you are ready for graduate school. The outside time and energy you have to put into really knowing us as people, to master the social landscape that is us as people takes years upon years.

knowing and knowing

When you know you know, and you are able to apply what you know to life. But sometimes people are too learned are so convinced that they start to lose site of rationale. You can research and read, but there has to also be a degree of life experience as well. You can read up on politics and be a student of politics. But once you’re on the inside, it’s a whole other story. So throughout life, gain the knowledge from whatever books you read, articles you seek out, but also live in the research.

CONTINUOUS LIFE LEARNING: WHY WE STOP LEARNING AT A CERTAIN AGE

Silhouette of Man

“Read more and learn more.”

why we stop

As adults, the vast majority of us will reach an age where we completely stop learning. And when I say completely stop learning, I mean academically. And the age we stop is young, usually in our mid 20’s. That is odd considering the average person lives to be 78 years of age. So for the next 50 years, people rarely pick up a piece of material out of curiosity and learn something new. Only problem is that when there is a new way of life in a civilization that creates a new lane for growth, people have a hard time matriculating.

learn wash learn

The brain has to be cleaned at every stage of life so that you make room for new information otherwise you don’t evolve past where you are in life. So let’s say you want to move from being poor to middle class. You have to clean your mind of what keeps you in poverty and replace that with new information. You learn things that are not taught to you in schools by an instructor. This way you’re ahead of the curve past those that are not interested in learning anything new.

mental status

Our emotional state has a lot to do with why we have a hard time learning. If you are not in the best place in life, you will have a hard time focusing and concentrating on important subject matte. You will spend a lot of your time in a rut and slump. So anything that comes your way that can possibly help you, you reject the information. And some people are so dependent on their slump that they become content and never grow.

GENDER ENCOURAGEMENT: WHY AREN’T GIRLS PUSHED LIKE BOYS IN SCHOOL

Photo of Four Girls Wearing School Uniform Doing Hand Signs

“We need them as much as we need us.”

girls! girls! girls!

In schools, we have always encouraged the boys more than we have encouraged the girls. When the hard work must be put in, we have always told the boys, this is what you should be doing. Then leave the less strenuous work for the girls. And that is a major aspect of why boys have become more successful than girls over time in school. And also in life the boys have gone off to do great things because you have to be pushed. You have to deal with a great deal of hardships and go through some suffering and pain.

lean in

Current Chief Operating Officer of Facebook Sheryl Sandberg wrote a book about why we should push young girls, why young girls don’t get the same encouragement as boys, and why girls become women who are not prepared for the world ahead. In an article written in 2013 for ABC news entitled, “Top 10 Facts You Don’t Know About Girls’ Education,” a list of reasons was outlined as to the effects young girls deal with on a daily.

  1. 65 million girls are not in school globally
  2. Of the 123 million young people between ages 15 – 24 that can’t read or write, 61% are female.
  3. Half of children not in school living in conflict-ridden countries are 55% girls
  4. Over 70 million children unable to have basic education in world; and over half are girls

giving motivation

How do we get them to be as great as the boys? We first have to start off by not cuddling them more than the boys. And yes, there is a certain softness that men and women have with their daughters than their sons. But we have to be careful how much because the world is not a soft place. And if we are too sensitive, then it’s going to be a culture shock when these girls step into the world.

LOST INTENTIONS: WHY THE TELEVISION LOST ITS ORIGINAL USE

cinema, dark, display

“Really, used for learning.”

the television

When the television was first invented, it was designed to be used as a tool to educate the public. Now, the television is used as a medium to entertain people. Image result for first tvAnd for the longest, the entertainment came from the radio. So how and why did it change over time? Because I think the television can still be used as an educational tool, but we choose not to use it for such method.

what have we learned

Once we realized in society that we could use not only language, but the imagery coming from the television as a means to push an agenda, that is when television transformed. Because now you have a way to dramatically play out what it is you have to say. Before on radio, you had to conjure up your own image, which forced people to have a creative mind.

But today, television doesn’t make you think anymore. And that comes from having to compete with the internet. So now, the television is more so built around who can get information out there the fastest, not necessarily who can educate the public. Yet, the public ourselves can still be educated, but choose not to. Then again, what is real and fake anymore in our society.

the new television

What’s interesting about the television’s original use, is that it still exist, but on the internet. And it exist on the YouTube website. That’s right, YouTube is not only a website where we listen to music and watch entertaining content, but there are also tutorials to learn trades. Anything you want to learn, someone has a YouTube channel dedicated to teaching you.

Doesn’t matter if it’s woodcarving, painting, or even learning mathematics, someone has a video for it. This would be a case of the television innovated from what it was in it’s origins.

what next

With the continuous innovation of the AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) capabilities what will be the next tool for learning. Because these headsets are already trying to make their way into schools across the country. Image result for ar and vrBut eventually, they will prove to be a problem as well. And then, we’re going to have to continue past this point as well.

FIGURED OUT: IS THERE REALLY AN AGE LIMIT THAT COMES WITH KNOWING LIFE?

Related image

“What comes with knowing life and the world around you?”

I have always heard growing up that if you keep going to sleep and waking up, I’ll figure the world out eventually. But I ask myself, is there really an age that comes with figuring out the world. Because when it comes to figuring out the world, the only thing I really need to know is people. Everything else is dictated by nature accept for us as a species. Plants have their way of interacting and animals have their way. But what about people? What is there really to figure out? I mean I think I have life already figured out, but soon as you say that people assume something else. Well let me explain what I mean by that statement.

When I say I have life figured out, I am not saying the intricacies that of the Earth and the Universe. I am more so talking about us as people. You see, when I was a young child I was babysat in the house by a few of my elders. My great-grandmother, her daughter (my grandmother), my grandmother’s sister, and their sister-in-law. But what I remember most was something that I asked my great grandmother as to why she never left the house. Her response was always the same, “Ain’t nothing out there.” Now, my mother knows what that means now that she is pushing 60 years of age. But at the age of 29 years old, I already know what that means.

See, my great grandmother was born around the early 1900’s and passed away in my second year of undergrad. So you’re talking a lot of years of witnessing humanity. Humanity at our worst and at our best. So when you are 96/97 years of age, why go outside. And living in New York City with such a diverse group of people, I now know what she meant now. Once you come in contact with enough of us as people. Understand what motivates us, our agendas, likes, and dislikes; you really don’t need to explore much after a while. Maybe this is why I am so aloof of a man. I think I understand us too much at too a young of an age.

Put it this way, look at life. People say life isn’t fair, but yet it’s very fair. Millions of sperm is thrust from the male genitalia. Yet, out of all those millions only one will fertilize the egg. Even with this one sperm reaching the egg, there is no guarantee the egg will fertilize. But let’s say it does; the journey from Fallopian Tube, to the fully mature baby in the wound, anything can happen. Those nine months can result in a child, or a still born infant. Now, let’s also further assume a baby is born, then what? Is the hard part over? No because as the child is released from the mother’s wound, all sorts of measures must be taken to clean and protect the baby from this new world. That infant immediately becomes exposed to everything from viruses to bacteria.

So, that infant comes home and from infancy through adolescent life you make that journey. From early adulthood to middle aged. Given that the average human body is only built to reach 40 years of age, yet due to improved scientific medicine we live to 78 years. Now, do you think life is fair now; yes or no? That is what I mean by I have life figured out. That is really the only thing to figure out. Yet anything else involves dealing with the human aspect of this planet. And this is what makes life hard; humanity. So biologically I have life figured out, but we make life unfair as people. There is enough food and water for every human on Earth, yet we as people get in the way of everyone having it.

Now you ask again, do I think I have life figure out? Of course because life is what I am doing now typing this blog post. It is the state of human existence, life. Living is dealing in the society in which I dwell. Outside of humanity, what else is there to know, or I must figure out. Human impact is the biggest impact. You don’t have food, human; lost your job, human; got cheated on, human. People say life throws you curve balls. Like what sicknesses, that’s not much of a curve ball, we all get sick. We just think it’s a curve ball because of the, “We think there for I am,” mentality. I think I am going to wake up tomorrow, I think I will be successful. Then you lose your job, that’s not a curve ball life thrown you, man fired you from work; human.

In closing, we have this notion that life must be figured through years of living, yet living alone is not enough. Watching and keeping your eyes open in your environment has a lot to do with knowing life. When you’re young, your eyes aren’t open because you’re into yourself. Your goals are paramount, yet when you get older and lose people and tangibles, you see nothing is guaranteed. As for me, I don’t live my life like the average 20 something. I am always trying to see the world from another perspective. Not just human thought processes, but natural. Our universe is so vast and infinite, yet we only have a finite time on this Earth as people. And how you spend your time will ultimately become your legacy when you die. So given that I know life and the living, I want to know more. Something higher, another level up. Something above us, greater than use, that man has not yet grasped hold of, that we seek to hold in our grasp. And with an infinite universe, and a finite species, opportunities are endless.
