VISIONARY: HOW YOU SEE LIFE SAYS A LOT ABOUT HOW FAR YOU MIGHT GO IN LIFE

“Do you see life as a whole, or part of a whole?”

Since moving to New York City, I have consistently been motivated to become a working screenwriter/filmmaker and author. And how I see the world is why I feel ultimately I will succeed in my writing. So I view the world as a place that can only get better from where I was yesterday. So whatever I was doing last year is helping to set me up with what I am doing now, to succeed tomorrow. But what is it about some people who just don’t see the world in the most positive light? They only have something to say that is shrouded in hurt and pain. There is nothing they say that points to wanting a better life. Scary thing is that they would prefer you follow them and how they see the world. And God forbid you ignore their wishes and go off to become successful. They will come up with every reason as to why you were in a different position than themselves.

But truth be told, you don’t need to be born with money to propel yourself to the next level. Your mind frame says a lot about you; your vision of the world. The above photo is of a woman’s hands viewing the wide open landscape wit her hands creating a box. It’s something that directors do in movies to get the idea of something that is in frame that they want to convey in a film scene. But when they move their hands, they say action and role camera. Imagine walking around society looking through this box. That is how so many negative people see life because they refuse to move their hands to see the full landscape. Their boundaries are everything in the box and when you move outside the box, something must be wrong with you. How dare you operate outside the box.

Well, operating outside the box is the reason why the filmmaker was able to sit down and create the film. The in frame box gives you a more heightened sense of what is going in the movie scene. But in life there is so much more than the square your hands create. Now, can anyone drop their hands so they see the broad spectrum of life? Of course they can, but it requires giving up the way you currently think and feel. And no one wants to believe that their thought process is wrong. People want to believe that the reason for their lives going the way it’s going is forces, coincidentally enough, outside the box. But they don’t address what could be addressed because not addressing the truth head on allows them to be romanticized with their own bullshit. So they stay living in a trance, yet wonder why they go nowhere.

In the end, shifting your perception is what allows you to move forward in life. It’s like how people who live in poverty say that it’s easy to say when you have money. But it’s the mind that makes up the people moving into a more stable situation. If you are willing to put yourself in the know, you can have a lot. But the mind is not freely thinking enough because people cannot see past their current position.

BREAKING FREE: MOVING AWAY TO GROW

Woman in Maroon Shirt With Black Chain on Her Body

“Get away to grow up.”

In the year 2011, right after undergraduate school, I moved to New York City. Coming here for graduate school from Kenosha, Wisconsin was a new experience. You go from living on a rural campus to a major metropolitan hub. Yet graduate school wasn’t the only reason I decided to make the leap out on the East Coast. Another reason I chose to move to the East was because I needed to also be in a city where I could pursue my goals the best way I knew how to do so. And I also wanted to shape my identification. Growing up for me in a household where I was not only the only boy among siblings, but male in the house. And there are certain aspects of being a man that my mom and sisters don’t quite understand. So in my mind, it made perfect sense to create a whole new identity for myself and pursue my goals.

So I ask you, is there ever a moment in your life where feel you need to getaway to grow in life. Now don’t get me wrong, you are suppose to leave an environment in search of something better. Not run away from problems that you perceive to be external, but are really internal. Because internal problems only follow you wherever you go. I am referring to you having to leave because what the world has to offer you elsewhere is far too great to stay where you currently reside. And that could mean better schools, a better job, and overall better existence. For example, I come from a small city with a population of about 75,000 people. And now living in New York city, there are three to four times that many people in my Harlem neighborhood. So it has been a major leap in me getting acclimated to the city. But luckily for me, I have been here almost six years.

As for me taking the leap and living in a more open and conscious city, my mind has grown with it. So my writing has improved since leaving my small town. Now, does that mean I encourage everyone else to do the same; no. I just feel for me, the borough of Manhattan has an energy that inspires me to write everyday. Some days I will just walk around the high populated areas just to get in a mode and come back to the computer lab and write. So for you, a small town might be the place for you to push out the greatness that is inside of you. But moving away gives you a different perspective on how other people live their lives. You are given an open door into how others different from you think and feel. This may aid in your endeavors whatever they may be, to propel yourself forward in life.

In the end, moving away forces you to mature at a quicker rate than if you were at home. Because even  with a support system back home, you have to step up to the learning curve quick. For me, coming from small town Midwest and now in the Big Apple, you grow fast. If you don’t, you sink fast. The city will swallow you up and spit you out. And it is a true testament to how resilient you are in life.

LEAVING FOR A BETTER LIFE OR ESCAPING YOU: WHY THE SMALL TOWN TO THE BIG CITY MIGHT NOT WORK FOR YOU

Aerial Photography of City during Daytime

“Changing locations is only the start.”

So many people who are from a small city or town feel that they need out. They wish that they could live somewhere that is other than the their current city. What they don’t understand about leaving the small city and heading for the big city is two things. Number one, the same people exist in the big city as your small town. And another thing, changing locations don’t mean your life is going to get better. I live in New York City, and you don’t land on a plane and just instantly become inundated with all this good stuff and positive energy. You have to shift through the bad energy and make a name for yourself, which takes time. Something a lot of people are not wiling to do.

So why do people look from the outside in, and think that their lives will be better if they just move. See, me on the other hand, I had to leave my former city. The career path I wanted to take, I couldn’t get there where I was located. But I was not running from people or even myself. And that is the key aspect of people’s decision to leave their small town or city. They don’t realize at times that they are running from themselves. Because if you hung out with a crowd of people that were not in your best interest in your small location, you could potentially run into the same people in your new location. Why, well because you are unaware of how to place yourself around good people. People going in the same direction as yourself.

You see, when I was living in my small city, I didn’t hang around people who were not in my best interest there. So when I moved here to New York City, the same rules applied. But if you’re one of these, I need to get away from here people, don’t head to NYC, LA, MIA, ATL, or CHI. Because another aspect of the bigger city are the same people you left times ten. Whatever you ran into bad there is worst when you get here. There will be people in your business, people who look at life through a very negative lens, people who have no goals or hope for the future, and people who don’t want to see you succeed. And not noticing these people in small town USA, may result in you running into the same people in big city USA.

In the end, you are the person that most likely need to change first. Your mind has to be right before you move to a big city. Your senses have to really be heightened and your hustle game must go up even higher. Thinking you’re going to escape the people where you’re from is flat out wrong. You are coming in contact with even worst of the same group. So change your circles in your current city, then make the leap for new opportunities elsewhere. This way, you’re prepared for the new challenges that come with the big jump.

NOT QUITE THERE YET: ARE YOU NOT IN THE PLACE YOU WANT TO BE IN LIFE

daylight, grass, landscape

“The long arduous path that is success.”

Have you ever had the feeling like you’re not in the place you want to be in life? Like you should be or thought you would be a lot farther by this point? Well, I am about to turn thirty years of age and I am working toward a career as a writer. While working toward this career, I am working two part-time jobs. And that sounds fine when you are a twenty years old, but not when you are thirty. Because when you are thirty, you are supposed to be a certain place by this time. You should be on your way to finding your first starter home and thinking about children, not writing. But I am pursuing a career I love, rather than a job I have to go to everyday.

So here I sit, in this moment writing. And to cope with the long road to writing success, I try to observe those that started around my age. And you see they had their first success at about mid to late thirties. Now I gave myself a ten year time period to break in as a successful writer of screenplays, playwright, and novels; with a little lightweight film/theatre directing. Now that I have gotten myself out of the way, what are you pursuing that your life isn’t where you thought it would be? We have all these visions when we are children of the things we will do as adults. But when we become adults, everything is up in the air once you are in the world on your own.

And everything is really up in the air if you have no clue what you want to do with your life. You typically spend all your time working, then coming home and existing. So the days turn into weeks, then weeks to months, and months to years. And before you know it, life has past them by, and they have not attempted at anything in life. And that is the scary feeling people have of not quite being there yet. They even see people their age making life decisions, going in the right direction. Yet they are still not there themselves. So they find any reason to avoid people they know out of shame. Why, well because we always compare ourselves to people that are around our age.

But what happens once people younger than yourself start making moves in life beyond you. That’s when you really start to feel uncomfortable. Seeing a new younger generation making moves that you feel you have not made yet. And what’s crazy, that young age group will feel the same once they reach my age. See, in the end, we don’t want to live with the failures. But we also don’t want to live with the idea of people saying I told you so. Trying at something and constantly failing at it over and over again. But I remember reading a quote by Thomas Edison which stated, “Many of life’s failures didn’t realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” But the real question is, how do you know when you’re close?

DOUBTERS: WHY YOU ACTUALLY NEED THE HATERS IN YOUR LIFE

Image result for rejection

“You will never make it, so why try?”

We’re always taught in our lives to surround ourselves with good people.  Place yourself around those going in the same direction as you. But what happens when all of that is attempted to be derailed by someone who wants to kill your dreams. That means you have to work that much harder to make it happen yourself. Those dream killers are the doubters who either out loud or silently told you it would never happen. They are the ones who it didn’t work for them, and don’t want it to work for you. Where does it come from; why do they need to feel the need to bring you down? And why do you actually in a way need these type of people in your life.

Doubters are people who for a number of reasons may not want to see you succeed in your career of interests. You have the first group of doubters that are the ones that will tell you try something else. They are flat out not interested in anything you do. They see you in the present state and can’t see past that point. You’re perceived by them as a slacker or loser. So they can’t get around the loser that is you. So to them you’re going to always be what your are. Another group of doubters are the people whose careers didn’t pan out so they have to tell you how much it won’t work for you. To them, they couldn’t make it and there is no way you’re better than them. So they just know you’ll fail in life. And if you do succeed, they’ll find the most negative stuff to say about you.

The third group of doubters are the people who have their success and don’t want you to surpass them. To them, you are a threat and must be stopped. But they are not going to just stop you, they’ll be overly negative. The goal is to get you to quit because a lot of times you work for them. They are comfortable with you under them and can’t stand you above where they think you should be. Kind of how comedians have come out recently after Kevin Hart. They were fine when he was below them, now he’s way above them, and now there is every reason to say he doesn’t deserve it. But the last group of doubters are the flat out hate group. They usually have no real discernible talent, and need to bring you down. Because your success further shows how much of their life was a waste. Especially if they remember when both of you were at the bottom. It shows how much time they’ve wasted in their lives.

Now, with all that I have stated, why do we need these doubters? Well, first and foremost they push us to be better. There is no motivation like people telling you you’re not good enough. You work overtime to prove them wrong. But I think the biggest reason we need doubters is to gain an insight into the human psyche. People who doubt you expose aspects of their personality. And not because of criticism; but hate. Criticizing someone is fine when you have a solution to make a situation better. But hate for the sake of hate let’s you in on who the criticizers are internally. And in the end that’s the just of doubters. They have their own internal workings going on. But how they see you and who you really are is totally different. As long as you have self-awareness, what they say has no hold.

TRYING TO REGAIN YOUR FOOTING: REBOUNDING FROM A SHIFT IN ECONOMICS

3 Silhouette of Man Under White Sky

“Feeling the pain of a major economic shift.”

The United States of America have always had shifts in the economics in this country. Whether it was using the cotton gin and reducing slave labor, to switching over to the combine from mule pulling. Now the country has jumped into this new tech space and people are railing regarding the state of employment as that leap takes place. In our nation, we have had so many people geared toward knowing how to accomplish a single task based job. But a task based job versus a career is different. When you are engaging in a task that is something along the lines of working at a McDonald’s or a WalMart super center. A career is more specialized form of employment such as an engineer or a physician.

So one of the daily duties is specialized while the other requires minimal training. And this is what has so many Americans afraid for their futures. We live in a country where so many people have been skilled throughout Gray Scale Photo of Car Factoryhistory in a daily task. Meaning, working in a factory at a machine, and sometimes being rotated to another machine so as not to become too complacent. As technological innovation increased, there was a lack of need for the human element. And when I say human element, I don’t mean decreasing the use of people all-together. I mean the work has become a lot more specialized. For example, instead of using people at a work station at various stages of manufacturing a vehicle, you now have a machine conducting the entire process. And then you hire an engineer who specializes in keeping the machine on track, you don’t need a base of employees.

But if you are not a specialized individual, what is out here for you? To so many Americans, they fill there is nothing for them. And you know what, they would be wrong. There are a lot of opportunities, as a matter of fact, Low Angle View of Office Building Against Skymore than almost anytime prior history. In the past, we weren’t as connected as we are in today’s society. We, in today’s society are open to the global market to make the decision. So I can conduct business with someone living in China from my living room in Iowa. Because of so much government intervention, this made the business transaction impossible in the past. But as more country’s governments become lax, the world is becoming more and more of a single global entity. But, what does this all mean to the person who is out of work.

If you worked in factories for years, you know absolutely nothing about conducting international business. You most likely barely understand how
Black Samsung Tablet Display Google Browser on Screendomestic business is conducted. You just want a 9 – 5, medical, dental, four weeks paid vacation, and maternity leave. But those days are over. Why, well because to be productive and efficient, you don’t need the human element. So with the introduction of automation, the process is more seamless. Now, if you don’t have a skill that falls along the lines of tech, then you have Google, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. Nearly anything you want to understand and learn is on these social mediums. You can self-educate and earn a living whereas prior years you had to go to some type of collegiate institution or get accepted through a training program.

Now, what if you don’t have the patience to learn something new. Well unfortunately, it’s tough shit. It sounds harsh, but that’s where we’re at right now, and I don’t see it ever going back. See, in the end, we are in a battle in society. Those that want to move forward, and those that want life to remain the same. Younger generations are more tech savvy and want efficiency without having to utilize manpower. While older generations want life to maintain equilibrium; something they’re used to working. But the standard has been sat. So you can role with the punches or lose out completely; evolve of die.

A NATION IN PERIL: WHAT AMERICA MUST DO MOVING FORWARD

Boy Looking at the Hole

“When did we become a nation of fear?”

Recently, there was a terrorist attack in an arena in the United Kingdom after an Ariana Grande concert. Nearly two dozen were killed and many more were injured. What this did was put the United States on high alert with regards to our arenas, stadiums, airports, etc. This, on top of an already nervous country scared as it pertains to the future of our nation. So what is it; how has America turned into this nation of fear? We used to approach situations with confidence, now everything is based off of fear. We used to have fight, now we find any reason not to fight. I have a few reasons as to why this might be.

For decades, America has pride itself on being a strong economy. But due to factory jobs being shipped overseas and an economic downturn, a lot of people have lost confidence. And with that loss in confidence, people have become scared for their futures. All coupled with the ever rising issues pertaining to Islamic extremists groups. Now in American society, we base so much on fear. Every time you turn on the news it is a constant rotation of how afraid you should be. Airports blar alarm systems that test our capabilities of being ready in case of an attack. It’s starting to feel like the 1940’s through the 1950’s. How school children used to have to hid under desk and in closets because we thought the Soviets would drop a nuke on America.

Now here we are in the United States today, once again, afraid for our lives. But, we are not afraid for our lives at the same time. We are not afraid of a foreign enemy, we’re afraid of our future here in this country. And the terrorist just adds to the already fear for our future. So with the industrial revolution running its course and limited jobs, as well as a divisive political landscape, we have all these fears. One the other hand, there is actually a lot more money to be made and the threat of terror will always be there. So what should the country do to get ourselves out of this rut we are in as a nation.

Number one, people must admit that we are in a rut. We must admit we are not like we used to be. Another aspect of getting out of our rut, is to eliminate this fear inside. And it comes from the attacks globally. America should be able to look these men engaging in terror in the eyes and threaten retaliation if they attack us. Do it, and be righteous. I’m not saying we should be violent, but we have to protect ourselves as well. But most of all, America is socially ruined and is in need of some serious repair. In the end, we have to find a way to bring that fight back into the country. Move past these petty differences, and propel ourselves forward into a nation of success.
