WORKING FROM HOME

“Clocking in from home.”

COUCH COWORKERS

If we have learned something about this lockdown a lot of people can work from home. This starts to make employers think to themselves maybe people can do this from now on. Because the cost of people being home may be lower than having them come to work. Now, does that mean we will make the jump? Well, it’s much more complicated than just making the jump. You have to slowly transition people into the life. Because waking up and being productive in the space in which you sleep can be something some businesses are against. How do you manage what your employees are doing? If you are hands on as a supervisor this can prove to be a problem for you. So what will happen of all that has happened?

SAVING TIME AND MONEY

The amount of money that an organization could potentially save by having people work from home could prove to be very smart. Imagine being able to shift your workers from offices to home cutting back on fees that an organization needs to spend of buying property, maintenance, on top of all the people you have to hire. But you have to take into consideration the others who work in the building not employees of the company like maintenance workers, security, and outsourced businesses for upkeep like construction work. Yet, is this a reason to not work from home.

IN DUE TIME

Eventuallyba time will come where more and more people will be working from home. Because the more technology advances the more you will find employees working from home. Because so many businesses are online and you will find a less need to bring people in to a work site. But as for people who need a physical work site they have to find a skill that translates into the future and fast. Because the world is steadfast moving in this direction.

INDEPENDENT DOWNSIDES DURING HARD TIME

“Moving forward.”

WHEN ROUGH GETS ROUGHER

Ever been in a position where you have to choose between being totally independent or needing someone’s aid? How about being on your own and getting hit by hard times and being in a place where you can’t easily bounce back. And here is when you realize that you may have been better off in a relationship. This way you can split the cost of survival with someone. When you are independent you take on all the burden. It sounds good to be on your own but when you see the hit on your existence you start thinking. And no other time is this true than now. We are dealing with a pandemic that has shut down the system. So where do you turn?

QUARANTINE GIVES TIME TO THINK

When you are out of work especially now, you are forced to sit with your own thoughts. And if you are single with no kids then you have to sit at home with limited resources. Limitations you wouldn’t have with someone else. Because with someone else you split the difference.  It’s what makes a person at ease a little more when they are able to receive help from someone close. But for a person like me, my life is all too unpredictable. I could be with or without in an instant. So why do we pump up independence? Because you get further with more help. It’s because we think it makes us stronger by building alone.

BUILD A BASE

Learn to put people around you that are going in your direction. This will help you in your time of need.  Being alone especially in a quarantined like situation is not good. I live alone in a city but I get help in bad times. Yet so many don’t get anything.

NO WORK DURING QUARATINE

“Where do I turn?”

THE MELTDOWN

The recent outbreak of the Corona Virus stemming from a small local marketplace in Wuhan China has put the world on lockdown. And as a citizen of New York City, this city has been the hardest in America. And with that, has come a wave of unemployment. It has now left people from all over the country wondering what to do now. Because I know for me, I still have a job. But so so many that’s not the case. I have never been in this position so it’s kind of a no man’s land. And for most people this is a new reality. So, let’s go through the steps to being able to get yourself through this troubling time? The first step is to apply for unemployment.

UNEMPLOYMENT UNDER COVID-19

In order to apply for unemployment, there are a number of steps to go through when filing. The first step is to go to the Department of Labor and sign up for an account. You will have temporary password sent to your email account. Sign into your account and then you’ll be prompted to create a new password. Once into the account tou created, understand that you have a specific time period to call or file. That is based off of your last name which means you call corresponding to that date. For example, my last name is a J, that means I call on Tuesday. So when you call, be prepared to wait a while.

BE PRECISE WITH INCOME

You have to know before calling how much time you work and the amount of money you make in a two week span. This is important because then they’ll be able to calculate what your unemployment can be. Now, they will look into you, and if you’re off, the process takes longer. So be open and honest up front so the process goes a little smoother. And if you manage to go through the process and get unemployment, remember it’s only 55% at most of your income. This is not meant for you to be unemployed. This is why the percent gets cut in half. It’s to encourage working. Now, this situation is difficult because the government shut down the country. This forced people to lose jobs. So it’s no fault of the unemployed. Yet, the percentage still stands.

A WHOLE NEW WORLD

Americans have not experienecd this much lost since 2008 when the economic recession forced out of work and out of their homes. Only this time it’s at no fault of the people. And the help which people will get is minimal and one time only. Now, the market go back to its original point, yes. It may take a year or more. The nation will return to success. But for now it’s going to be a struggle.

NO COLLEGE CAREER

People Wearing Backpacks

“Why sit in class all day?”

DO YOU NEED IT REALLY

Going to college you have all these ideas about what life is going to be once you graduate undergraduate school. You think that life is going to be so cut clean and dry when it comes to finding employment. But what you don’t realize is that your college degree is a small aspect of the overall success of a person’s career. Now that I have embarked on my career journey I am looking at life going, why did I go to college? Because there are people who go to school for photography or filmmaking, but you really don’t need to do so. As a matter of fact, you can actually pay less for the equipment and getting yourself started versus going to school. We also have enough videos out there and books to self educate.

SPECIALIZED STILL NEED SCHOOL

There are careers that still need a degree to obtain the role. And those are usually jobs where you have to get into the medical fields like surgeons. This is because someone’s life is in your hands. So for that reason, you have to be in school, usually for a long period of time. But is medicine the only type of career you need to go to school for, no attorneys in most states. That is because the extensive training is necessary when dealing with the outcome of people’s lives.

OPEN MARKET

In this new improved society we are able to have careers that don’t always need degrees. You can put yourself in the know and build a life today. So a lot of young people have been thinking twice about going to college. That, or they are going to smaller schools that require less money to pay back and are living at home.

BRING YOUR KID TO WORK DAY

Woman Together With Children Holding Laptop Computer

“They’ll learn a lot.”

WHEN IT WAS OK

When I was growing up as a child, there was something called take your daughter to work day. And it was done to promote women in the workforce; to show girls what their mother did everyday. And eventually it turned into take your child to work day. But today, you don’t hear much about it; some places have even removed it fully. And that is because there is this idea that we must promote working for boys and girls. Yet we still don’t allow kids to go to see where their parents work. I don’t know if it’s because parents don’t see as what they do as interesting. Or if workplaces don’t want parents to have their children on the job for liability concerns.

TIMES HAVE CHANGED

Like I said in the passage prior, we don’t take our children to work anymore. And I don’t know why it stopped so much. People are so politically correct today that it can be seen as a problem. Like I also said before liabilities. No workplace want a kid at the place and potentially get hurt. You get sued because a kid wants an adult experience, no way.  Another reason is because people felt there were beginning to be more opportunities for girls to experience a workplace.

ALTERNATIVES

With the way social media is designed today, there are so many opportunities to have girls be apart of programs. So you really don’t need to take a daughter or any child to work.

CLOSE QUARTERS CAN BE BENEFICIAL

Photo Of People Doing Handshakes

“Knowing each other a little more.”

IN-PERSONAL SPACE

Are there any benefits to working in the same space as your coworkers? And when I say coworkers, I am saying sitting at the same table.  And that means working in very close quarters for extended time periods. Form doing so, you learn a lot about the person sitting next to you and across from you. You learn bout their strengths and weaknesses as well as who they are personally. And from this you learn to become very attached to the person you are working with on  a daily basis. But as with any upside to working with someone that close, or people that close, you also have the downsides of being so close to someone all day long.

I MISS THE CUBICLE LIFE

Look, I know there re so many benefits to working close to people, but sometimes you need that space. Cubicles would drive people crazy in the past, but in today’s society where you are expected to be so close can make you appreciate the old days. This new close nit community doesn’t always work. I understand the job wants us to be one, and think as a unit, but there has to be a blend of both. You have to have the old, with a bit of the new. That is the blend that you need in order to keep a calm work environment. Meaning, sometimes you need to work in your own space and get things done. Because the closeness might actually lower productivity if people get too close and personal.

THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS: WATCH HOW YOU MAKE WORKPLACE BUDDIES

Four Person's High-fiving Each Others

“Don’t bring them too close.”

friendly workplace

At work, we all would like to think of ourselves as these very friendly people. But we must sit back and think to ourselves and realize we are all in competition as well. It’s good and all to be nice, but you have to understand that we may be going for the same position. That is tough because how can you be friendly with someone who is your nemesis at the same time. And I know I know, you probably saying, “Nemesis, that’s a bit harsh.” But you really are when you look at it. We all want to make a comfortable living, yet this friend of yours is standing in the way. So now you have to make a decision.

kept at arms length

I have been guilty of this type of behavior. I am known to be the guy who either don’t say much or the one who is the aloof good quiet guy. So people may look at this and take it a certain way. As for me, I don’t want to get to close to the people in competition. The reason being, you guys are friends up to a certain point in life. You are not besties that are going to raise your children together. And hell you might be, but it shouldn’t truly show itself. Keep yourselves at a certain arms length.

trouble comes and fingers point

when it’s all said and done, we all have bills to pay. No one wants to lose their job over workplace bullshit. So when drama starts, rest assured, the fingers will start to point. And no matter how good of friends you are with someone, they will rat you out. They are not losing their job when they have children, spouse, food, and a mortgage. They will dime you out, so make sure they are too close to know too much. This way anytime anything gets started around the office, you are never in the conversation. I have always been in conversation for work, never something that could get me fired. Be aware of those close to you.
