LIFE IMITATING ART IMITATING LIFE: WHEN ARTIST START TO BELIEVE IN THEIR CHARACTER

“Being what we think we are.”

artistic imitators

Musicians, actors, and everybody in between have or portray characters that they get a little caught up in the sometimes. And when I say this, I am referring to the imitation of art from the artist. You generally see this in Hip Hop music. The only genre of entertainment where your life can be in danger because of your craft.

And why do people feel the need to portray something that are not. Is it really necessary for people to do this to stay on top?

credibility

When in regards to being caught up in being the character, does a sense of credibility add to the equation. Because we think that rappers are gangsters, in reality, they are mere artists good at being the part. And what’s scary is that you could inevitably lead to your own demise trying to portray this character.

But is all about trying to portray someone or do you get so wrapped up in your career you start to actually think you are the character. This happens with method actors who become the character to have a better impact on the film/television show.

stay in your lane

The principal still remains, stay in your lane. Be happy that you have a career where you can showcase your talents. Don’t bow it trying to live up the hype of what a chosen few want you to be.

THE DISCOVERY: HOW DOES ONE STAND OUT FROM THE PACK

Image result for STANDOUT

“Dare to be different.”

differentiating

In our society today, you see so much entertainment that is based around so many people sounding the same and looking the same. How do you know one person from the other. Everything you turn on is just the same as the next thing. So in a world, where I myself am an artist, it seems that you have to be sometimes the norm to be relevant; but do you?

the pack

What if I dare to be different as most would say. Does that mean I will be seen for certain? Because in the entertainment world, people want their success right now. So when they see another person’s formula working, they run with that. But it’s not you, you’re the rest of the pack. Find your voice and stick to it, but that it easier said than done.

programming

There are so many different ways to standout from the pack and not get caught up in what else is being done in entertainment. But we become so disillusioned by what is hot right at this moment, we are in a trance until it’s too late. cinema, dark, displayIt’s why you are supposed to exercise your creativity like any other muscle in your human body. I think this is the reason when it comes to entertainment, I try my best to not get caught up too much into what is hot. Because what is hot is always getting replaced. So stick to your guns and keep at it.

TODAY’S ARTIST: HOW THERE IS NO BETTER TIME TO BE AN ARTIST THAN NOW

Woman in Brown Long-sleeved Shirt Wearing Eyeglasses Holding Paint Brush

“Making magic for money.”

artistry

Artistry has been apart of the human experience since the days of cavemen and women. Form paintings on the cave walls to the canvas, we have always aimed at expressing ourselves through some form of artistry. But for so long, we have only had a select venues for showcasing our work. Well, at least venues that were open to us making a living.

Now there are so many different outlets to making an income for an artist. You don’t need the gatekeepers like in the past.

outlets

Thanks to social media, you can now get your work out there a lot easier than people of the past. Artist in the past needed some sort of investor or sponsor to help push their projects out into the world. For example, Instagram is very pivotal in publishing videos and even pictures of all the work you want to showcase. Facebook is also a place where people can see your art as well as YouTube, Hulu, and Vimeo. These places serve as a house for your work to be displayed.

downsides

As with the good of being an Indie artist, there are the drawbacks. And the drawbacks is that there are so many good artists, that it’s easier to get lost in the pack of talent. You must be able to distinguish yourself from everyone else doing what you’re doing. Meaning if you want to be a dancer, just dancing is not a good path to follow. You have to have a niche that people love.

Another problem is artist a lot of times are not business minded. So trying to sell their work is a lot more difficult because they are generally introverted. And in order to be a good salesperson you must put yourself out there in the world. But still, with the downsides, it’s still a good time to be an artist.

ART AND THE WORLD AROUND US: HOW OUR CREATIONS SAY A LOT ABOUT OUR SOCIETY

art, creative, creativity

“It’s what takes place in the moment of conception.”

the arts

We as people have always used art as a means to convey an image we see in our minds. It doesn’t matter if its a cave painting from thousands of years ago, or if its a someone using their digital drawing pad with a computer software today. We are always trying to convey some sort of message with what it is we’re drawing, writing, photographing, painting, singing, or sculpting.

art in real time

When looking at art, it usually conveys a meaning of what is going in our world at the moment. And we don’t fully appreciate it until later on in life. We look back and say to ourselves, oh, I wonder what was taking place Related imagethat made this artist do this piece of art. And when enough time has elapsed, people have no connection to the situation which generated the art you see, but makes people guess what was taking place.

looking to the future

Now, I said prior that art is created from the things we see in the moment. But what about the art that aims at how life will look in the future. These are the people who design art from the perspective of how they think something might look in the future. The art could be of a painting of how skyscrapers might appear, but we don’t appreciate it until 50 years later to see how much has change.

in their heads

Into the heads of the artist is an interesting place. We wish we could understand what made this artist create this image. What would make a human’s brain conjure up such an image. But we don’t know, and there lies the great mystery of the artist imitation of life.

COLOURS: WHY I HAVE DECIDED TO GET INTO PHOTOGRAPHY

adult, Analogue, aperture

“The art direction and production design: practice in lieu of filmmaking.”

I am currently in the process of making my second short film. In the meantime, I am working on this blog, writing my novel & book of short stories, and thinking about what screenplay to write next. But filmmaking is so much of a hustle that I am going to need a consistent pay. But I don’t want to be out of the groove of things as it pertains to the artistic aspect of filmmaking. And that’s when it hit me, photography. And not necessarily because I am a huge fan of photography itself. It’s the artistic direction, the production design, and the person being shot in frame. Lately, I have been interested in the fashion world’s photographic imaging.

I guess you wonder, what does this have to do with filmmaking. To me, a lot; it has a lot to do with making film simply because of the in frame imagery. Not long ago I sat down and started coming up with ideas for various photo shoots that drive that imagery out of me. And the reason why I felt close to fashion is because of the artistic direction that is similar to the picturesque look I want to achieve through film. I love the use of colors in telling a story. And being able to tell a story through imagery is is like putting together my storyboarding. What’s interesting is that photographers have a story board process as well. Another type of photography interesting to me is food photography.

You ever been driving down the road and see a billboard. Or better yet walking down the street and your eye catch the sight of a sign out front of a restaurant. The photo on the billboard or signage on the street has always been of interest to blur, breakfast, close-upme. I always wanted to know the process of how they achieve the look they do for the food. Then I did a little research and found how they set everything up. The process is just as interesting. Even when photographing a meal, you are telling a story in that frame. Which is yet another reason why I have come to respect photography.

And in the end, that is my real connection to photography. Being able to tell a story in pictures is what you must do after writing your script. Explain in pictures/animation what you are aiming to achieve with this script. This will aid in working with your artistic director and production designer. So for me, like I said earlier, fashion has that interesting artistic and production aspect I find interesting. Because it’s the combination of the look of the photos, background, and clothing worn by the models. Hopefully the journey to where I want to be is as enjoyable as it has been so far.

WHEN THE MACHINE BREAKS: IS AMERICA ON THE VERGE OF A REVOLUTION

Image result for revolution

“It will be televised.”

In America today, people have been up in arms since Donald Trump was elected president of the United States. There have been protests and threats of boycotts. Even the United States government have been going after President Trump. In addition to all this, Trump’s constituency is still going strong. Now, with all that’s said, is America headed for some form of a revolution. I have never seen Americans this on edge regarding a US president in my life. So what is it that has gotten people so up in arms. We have always been divided on leaders in this country, but this time it’s a lot different.

For starters, people are out of work and employment is low. And on top of that, over the past year we elected a very polarizing president. But about the employment situation. America is rapidly changing from a labor based society to a information/technologically based country. And with so many people unskilled in this area, they have become quite desperate. Desperate for jobs and desperate for leadership. So what happens next, the people elect a man that no matter what he says or does, he’ll win if they feel he is in their best interest. Since winning in November 2016, his (Donald Trump’s) followers have held on strong. But then there is the other side.

Then, there are the people who are against him. These are the protesters, the boy cotters, and the people wanting him to be impeached. For me, living in New York City, you’re used to seeing some form of protest. But since Trump won the presidential election so much has taken place in Manhattan. Even the government has been harping on this Russian influence in the presidential election. We have not been this interested in an election of a president in a long time. So with what has been said, is America overdue for a revolution? Which could have different meanings depending on who interprets the word revolt.

There are a few types of revolution: fighting back with protests, there is the violent upheaval, and then there is the artistically sound way to respond. On the protesting side, all these protest should not be looked at as just people marching the streets. These are people who are actually galvanizing for the next election in 2020. These are people who represent the 60% that voted against the president as well as the those that didn’t vote for him. On the other hand you have the violent exchange. This is what people might want to stray away from. Because the fire power of the US government is much more than what the people have in our arsenal. And, you also get very little accomplished because more of a rift takes place in the system. So violence might be seen as a way, but that is the absolute last result.

Then there is the artistically sound method of addressing an issue in our society. Artists have already started addressing the issues of today’s America in the work. No matter if it’s the music, the paintings, sculptures, filmmaking, theatre, fashion, and/or publications. Addressing issues through art has always been a revolutionary way to reach the masses and effect change. Whether it’s breaking color barriers through sports and rock & roll, or making entertainment that connects to the way we all feel about a particular situation. In the end, America is on the verge of a shift in this country. We have always dealt with social issues in this country, and always have had our ways of addressing them. Only time will tell on what happens next in America.
