our thoughts

We have these thoughts on a daily that creep into our minds. And it can haunt us because often these thoughts translate into actions. That is the quote that exist; your thoughts become actions. But why do your thoughts become actions? I think a lot of things in my life, some good and some bad. But only very few stick in mind. Because I might be afraid to fly, but still fly. I might see myself as bird with flight like capabilities. But the only things that manifest is when I feel I can’t accomplish my goals. What is it about those particular thoughts that stick out the most?

real thoughts matter

The thoughts that stick in our minds and become actions are the thoughts where success in life is involved. When we see ourselves as a bird that can fly, it means nothing because humans don’t have flight capabilities. Yet when we see ourselves never succeeding our career, then the thoughts manifest itself. One of the reasons is that the things such as flight like a bird are a disbelief. No matter how many times I say I can’t flight, doesn’t matter, no human can. Succeeding in your career is a must to coexist in society. So it becomes a necessity. Anything that is need based becomes frozen in the mind. Another reason for people manifesting the success versus failure thoughts over others because it speaks to a want. I don’t want to swim across the Pacific Ocean from California to China. But on the other hand, I want to learn how to swim. Appealing to my want and not thinking I can, will keep me from ever learning to swim.

suspension of disbelief

Remember what I said earlier about flying like a bird. Scrape that, you can fly like a bird. I know it sounds crazy to discredit all of what I had just said. But there is a context to my speech. Depending on what you are trying to accomplish you have to remove reality to some degree. We had to think about flying like birds to create aviation. Because no human flies, we have to look at the closest thing that mirrors our creations. So in order to accomplish something that is a feat no human can physically do, but a machine can, your thoughts really have to be aligned properly. Because now, you are thinking outside the box and defying logic to accomplish a task. So protect your mental state because it can really alter your perception of the world around you and ultimately negatively effecting your directed path in life.

In the Black community, we have long been so governed under the Christian faith that anything that goes against the grain has been ostracized.  And the issue that falls under this topic would have to be gay relationships. It exist in a community, but not widely talked about in a community. You are refrained from really discussing it, but it’s so in your face in today’s society. But how does it feel to be a member of the LGBT community in such a conservative environment? Me being a heterosexual male, I can’t relate to this, but have heard stories told.

biblical fears

The bible has its many uses, but in certain communities the bible was used to do two things. It was used to enslave and it was used to uplift; crazy right. The enslavement of Black people through Christianity in America was a justified, but the religion has also been used to uplift a community. So the the fundamentalist fears that stand keeps a people from delving too deep into LGBT rights. Since the bible states that it is against it, then most likely there will be a push against it.  Which means there is a clear separation between how one feels as a person and how one views the relations via the bible.

generational shifts

There is something to be said about the change in times. Because this is more of an issue to an older generation. Because if you are under a certain age, then this conversation is more of a non-discussion. Because to a younger generation you’re used to seeing Gay couples. Rather it be on television, film, or in our daily lives. So to hear our parents, or even grandparents not accepting is a shock to us. We love our grandparents, and pride ourselves on being open. We even push back against those who speak out against the LGBT community, but we are not ready to deal with our elders who fight against the movement.

GETTING THROUGH THE DAY: HOW SOME DAYS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS

We have all had those days where we are feeling depressed or some other form of sorrow. It usually starts at the beginning of the day, and last throughout the day. Other times it seems to come out of nowhere without warning; onset depression. You wonder why does this happen, and how do you cure yourself of such feelings. Most of all, you want to know when will it stop and go away. What are the factors that contribute to you feeling this way? Are there internal feelings that seem to poke through when you least expect it? How can you decrease the odds of you feeling such anxiety in the future?

This has happened to me at times in my life. But for me, it does not start at the beginning of the day. It usually happens out of nowhere. Psychologist call it a trigger, and before you know it, you’re full swing into thoughts of frustration and anger. But where does this come from. Usually, there is this underlying feeling that you have, that you don’t act on, yet it lies dormant in your mind. For example, you go throughout the day feeling good and treating people with respect, but you have this internal rage. This rage that translate into negative thoughts toward other people. It’s uncomfortable to talk about because you’re a good person. But the feeling has nothing to actually do with harming innocent people. You have something internally you need to correct with yourself.

These intrusive thoughts plagued us on a daily basis. How do we eliminate these intrusive thoughts and where do they come from? Another reason the intrusive thoughts creep into our minds has to do with quality of life. When your life is in order, you have better days, you sleep better, have friendlier conversations, and just all around good-nature existence. Intrusive moments happen when you don’t have anything going on in life and/or in between good and bad times. That uncertainty is tough to deal with because you feel like a juggler where someone grabs one of your balls, and throws everything off. What’s another reason down moments happen and how do you combat them?

Down moments can also take place with the change in weather. That’s right, when it’s raining you typically fall into a state of depression quicker than when the temperature is 75 degrees and sunny. It’s not the rain itself, it’s that gloomy days are a reminder of tough times we are going through or have experienced in life. And when weather worsens, we are stuck in the house with little to do, almost like a sick day. So in the end, as you can see, there are multiple reasons why someone experience a rough day. Some rough days are easier to combat than others. Obviously when someone close to you is sick, it will cause you to have a rough day. But out of nowhere hurtful days are the ones we struggle with the most. It’s days like these that we need to sit back and assess what’s wrong in our lives that takes our minds to this desolate place.

NEGATIVE THOUGHTS: HOW DO THEY CREEP INTO THE MIND

“Why do we let intrusive thoughts into our minds?”


It happens to us all, even someone as motivating as myself. We allow certain intrusive thoughts into our heads because these are generally feelings that haunt us in the back of our minds anyways. They are thoughts that sometimes we really want to say or do, yet we don’t act on them. Why, because unlike animals in the wild, we are endowed with a conscious that allows us to make rational decisions. We are not, for the most part, impulsive creatures that do without thinking. Then if we are given so much consciousness, how come these thoughts become so easy to slip in. You would think we could tailor make our brains to think what we want it to think.

That is an interesting concept, making ourselves think what we want ourselves to think. This is how people become successful, they think up all their success until it happens. But if for a moment you allow the negative thoughts into your mind, it can deter you from your goals. Those goals could set you on a path toward the success you want. But for that split second, it stopped you. One of the reasons we allow it is out of fear as well. We second guess out of fear because more is expected from us. The more you give people the more they want. What if you hit a point of not being able to satisfy? So it’s easier being a loser at times.

Another reason why we let thoughts into our mind is because it’s is easier for some to be hated than loved. This is interesting when looking at Black people in America. I have come to a conclusion that sometimes we allow bad thoughts to infiltrate our minds because of what comes with it. If you are successful, what is to come of that. Meaning, who are the new people into your life that otherwise wouldn’t be dealing with us? We have spent so many years being outsiders, how do we deal with new love. Sometimes it’s easier being a villain than being loved. I can deal with being a villain, it’s people embracing me that’s tough. It’s what makes us self-destruct at times. No one expects you to be anything in life, so when you do, we wait for the attack, so we can be brought down and lose.

In the end, the bad thoughts creep into our minds because there is an aspect of the thought that is who we are.  If we have these inner fears and guilt, it sometimes manifest itself in our decisions. Positive thinking is not a given, it is a craft that takes a long time to master. Especially in a world of so much negativity. But still with that said, you can’t run away from yourself with hopes of saving yourself. Your thoughts becomes your actions, and ultimately shape your existence in life.

“Are your thoughts your thoughts?”

“I think therefore I am.” “Your thoughts become reality.” “I believe this to be true therefore it is.” We as humans always want to feel that just because I think something is true makes it true. Now, this has a possibility of being true because like I said prior, your thoughts become reality. You think something, it becomes your process, then your action, and then it’s what your life becomes. Well, when does the thought become unreal? It becomes unreal once the thought blocks you from logical thinking.

What I mean by logical thinking is that we want to think that our belief systems mean something just because we believe it. The problem with this frame of thought is we don’t realize certain thoughts and feelings exist because things have been laid out for us in the past. And the past at times dictate the present. Meaning, 100 years from now, Gay marriage won’t be a topic of discussion. Why, well people will think they agree because it’s their thought, but won’t realize it was put in play 100 years ago. The same is for dating in certain age ranges. 100 years ago a 16 year old marrying a 30 year old man was normal. But today we frown on it not because we feel that way, we were born in a time where the laws changed.

With what has been said, why is it so hard for people to acknowledge the truth? People find it hard to do so because they can’t stomach the fact that their belief system means nothing. If what they believe means nothing, then what else is not true in their lives. Ultimately they have to live with the idea that their lives may have been a waste. This is fine if you are in your early adulthood; there is still time to change. But if you are toward the end of your life, then yes, your life may have not meant anything. So how does one keep this from happening?

You keep it from happening when you open up your mind to learning new things. Having new experiences in life on a consistent basis. Your learning will force you to challenge new thoughts and you gain new insight into the world around you. That is a major issue with the world is that we don’t like putting ourselves in the know. We reject so much new information because we get set in our ways. The problem with getting set in a way is that if there is any new information presented that is needed to replace the old and you are still on the old, you are left behind. Meaning it’s nearly impossible for you to function in the general population. This renders you obsolete in society.

So in closing, when your thoughts become reality, this can be good, so long as the thought align with rational thinking. The problem is we all think we are rational. We all feel that we have that one magic word which will change everyone’s mind. But it never quite pans out that way. But the thoughts we harbor can also be a killer if we retain thoughts that become antiquated. making it impossible to live in the world.
