A LONG STANDING DIVIDE: HOW POLICE AND COMMUNITY BICKERING EFFECT THE UNITED STATES

“The divide that can cause a collapse.”

In the recent years the topic of police brutality has come up in America. But on the other side police advocates are stating that they are just doing their jobs. Now my question is, is this really a problem, or because we have so much social media access, it’s bigger now? Because this has always been going on (the relationship between the community and police), but now it’s bigger because we can instantly see the problem. Now, previously I said community. The bad blood is not in just any community, it’s the predominantly Black community. This has been a long standing relationship in this country for decades. Longer than I have been alive, my parents, and grandparents.

But my topic today is not to discuss why it goes on or who is to blame. My topic today covers how it could ultimately effect the country. You might ask how so; how could the community and police relationship effect America? Image result for criminalityFor starters, it will give rise to the criminality in society. Once the police become pariahs, then the criminal element is able to take more control. With the relationship fragmented, they have more voice. Because the community’s way of punishing the cops is to make their job hard by not cooperating. And the police become fed up and allow the criminals to reign supreme over law abiding citizens.

And think about what it does to a younger generation when watching all this television coverage. A age group is growing up witnessing killings before their very eyes. Now, they will grow to have an even higher level of disdain for the police than previous generations. Just think about it, posted videos of the shootings on top of a 24 hour news cycle. We are engineering a Related imagegeneration where you are made to fear those sent to protect you. Imagine growing up a young Black male right now in elementary school. Nothing but live coverage of Black males shot by cops. The respect and trust in the law will diminish. And you’ll create a new era of rogue individuals in our society.

Lastly, what about keeping our borders safe in America. We live in a country where terrorist threats from outside are all around us. So when we have in-fighting, it can put us in a very vulnerable situation. Police officers are our first line of defense in case of a terrorist attack. So if the community and police are fighting that is an in for outsiders. For instance, while the people and police fight, the real threat could be operating within the community. We are so programmed in America to watch each other, we’re not watching outsiders. What’s more interesting is that outsiders see us as more of a collective than we see ourselves.

In the end, having fighting between the community and the police is more of a problem than issues within. We have to to now make sure that people from outside don’t use this against us. Because no matter what the fight, there can’t be fighting between the citizens, and the men and women hired to protect them. This nation becomes too susceptible to homegrown and outside potential threats. So what is the solution because this is not some fly by night problem. It has been a long-standing issue for generations. But whatever the case may be, continuing will create a divide that only hurts the people and law enforcement. Thus giving rise to real outside threats.

FRIENEMIES OF AMERICA: WHEN YOUR ALLIES MIGHT ALSO YOUR ENEMIES

Image result for GENTRIFICATION

“Ever get the feeling they hate as well?”

The United States have always been a place of constant conflict. No matter if it were related to ethnicity, religion, or gender. We have had these various social issues going back to when this land was under the control of Great Britain. But in today’s society the issues have been just as social, and directed at our new commander in chief. Since Donald J. Trump was elected president, there have been constant protest against him. The most recent controversy was last week when comedian Kath Griffin was pictured with a headless bloodied-face Trump. She has not only lost her CNN New Years Eve gig, but also a few sponsorships. But, pertaining to the people who dislike him, you ever get the feeling they are dishonest as well.

And when I say dishonest, I mean as it pertains to the same reasons they dislike the president. Trump is disliked for a number of reasons, but a few stick out the most: racial, gender, and religious. So are the people who hate him for these reasons, are themselves against the very groups that they accuse him of not liking. I pride myself on being a little more liberal than conservative, but I get the feeling the liberals are no different. I get the feeling that these liberals dislike Trump because they are afraid of their own disdain for groups poking through. What do I mean by their own held feelings about certain groups.

Well, for starters, the racial aspect of America. And when I say racial, I am obviously not pertaining to the human race, but more so how we use racial socially. You have these liberals that don’t like Trump, yet they are gentrifying Black and Latino areas, moving out groups. They are not built on keeping people and preserving culture. They remove the current culture, and adopt their own in the name of cool or trendy. Like changing the name of parts of Harlem to SOHA or Washington Heights NYC to Upper Manhattan. Yet these are the people with anti-Trump signs. They can’t see that they are the same as him, maybe even worse. They attack him for language, but their actions are far more detrimental.

What about the religious angle people on the left try to take. He is seen as xenophobic as it pertains to Muslims. But when I walk into the airport, even before Trump ran for president, people get uncomfortable with Muslims. And when I say uncomfortable, I mean the attire they sport. Mainly how the women are expected to dress. But the moment he comments on it, people get upset. But when I see the discomfort from people, it throw me off because he is supposed to be the xenophobic one. Not the liberals, they should embrace the diversity of people. Yet, there is something that is triggered when Muslim women and men are around wearing traditional garb. But what about the gender conversation?

In the United States, gender has always been a debate. But when Trump was caught in conversation regarding women, it became that much more controversial. It even prompted women in fashion to not sit next to his daughter Tiffany because of him. But then I started to think, don’t the fashion industry get criticized each year for campaigns that place unrealistic physical expectations on young women. Or the fact that they push against the use of women like Ashley Graham, a plus size model, on ad campaigns. That hypocrisy is something they have to be willing to shift as well. Can’t attack him, and continue to push into young women’s minds that they are not good enough because their bodies don’t look a certain way.

In the end, you are going to always have people who tell you not to do something, that they do themselves. We all use the excuse, “You’re held to a higher standard.” And that is true, but you’re also held maybe not to that equal standard level, but more so to that standard obligation. Meaning you shouldn’t be doing it, but he really shouldn’t be doing it. So on a scale of one to ten, he is a ten, but you’re still like a two or three. Don’t use someone else’s standard as a means to be rude yourself. If you feel he hates Muslims, don’t get uncomfortable around Muslims for that same reason. Attack is meant for things that he does that we don’t deem acceptable. Because a leader represents your country. Yet, if we are just as uncomfortable as Trump, he actually does represent the sentiment of the nation.

HARD TO FOLLOW HYPOCRISY FOR JUSTICE: THOUGH I DISAGREE, HARD TO FULLY FIGHT TRUMP

Image result for trump protesters

“Do you not like, nor hate him either?”

Since the election back in November of 2016 for President Donald J. Trump, people have been doing everything from debating to protesting. I myself have written a few posts on Trump as well. But what I have not done was write from the perspective of being on his side. Most people would say, “How could you be on his side?” And they would be right to an extent. There are things he says and done that delve into petty. But when I see the types of people coming after Trump, it puts you in a strange position. You have so many awful people, or people who never question the awful behavior in their own environment question Trump.

What do I mean by strange position? This is what I mean. When I hear people make statements regarding Trump, then turn around and behave that same way, it really hurts their argument. It’s hard to go along with someone who is behaving like the man they rail against the most. So, who would I be referring to as it pertains to people who fight the hardest? I am referring to athletes, entertainers, politicians, business executives, and newscasters. People who have just as much, if not more influence than Trump exemplify their own poor behavior.

Who would fall into the category of what I am talking about. On of the groups is the fashion industry. Trump’s daughter Tiffany attended a fashion show awhile back. Patrons refused to sit next to her amidst her father’s comments about women. Understandably so, until you delve deeper into the fashion industry. When you see how they have had such a negative impact on young women. Everything from telling young women who are already underweight they need to lose more, to being forced to create more diversity with it’s advertising. And still, the attempt is made to further hold on to such principles in their industry.

So when you hear people who themselves are so immoral and unethical, it’s hard to only point the finger at Trump. Or better yet when NBA player Lebron James states there is no room for the type of locker room talk that Trump was engaging in. Then you say to yourself, “Really, now athletes have become the moral compass for how women should be treated. An over 90% divorce rate, mainly due to infidelity. Domestic abuse cases, murder, attempted murder, rapes, and now they are all of a sudden the voice for the women’s cause. It really makes it hard to hear these types of individuals plead their case. And still, there is another group of people that go hard and that is the entertainers.

Entertainers have been poking fun and protesting themselves against Donald Trump. But every award season actors and actresses take to the stage demanding higher pay for women and expressing a lack of diversity as it pertains to minorities. It is hard attack someone at a restaurant for poisoning another patron’s food, when your own meal is being poisoned at the dinner table and you eat it like it taste delicious. And yet, you never hear about them out a studio executive for their practices. All you hear is, “the industry” is a certain way. But the industry is made up of people, who are the people. If we attack the president, I also want to know the names of these bosses as well.

And that’s my problem, why I may disagree, but it’s hard for me to fully follow the pack. There is just way too many hypocrites fighting the president. Too many wanna be righteous people who are not really being righteous. They talk about togetherness and are some of the main people pushing against their own agenda. Mass media has this narrative they push as well, but won’t admit it because it boost ratings. See, in the end, everyone want to act like a martyr, until the one you stand by does that thing that has you protesting. We will find every reason to denounce the opposition, but fight for the wrong on our own side. So it forces me, to now stand behind those I wouldn’t normally stand behind because of the dishonesty. And the more we are dishonest the more Trump types will come into power.

OH, HE’S BLACK: THE OBJECTION TO DATING BLACK MEN

Image result for interracial dating

“Why they object.”

I read a recent post on Instagram where a statement was made regarding model Ashley Graham. She is currently married to a Black male and stated that at first members of her family were apprehensive. See, if you haven’t already guessed she is White and he is Black. But why, why is it still an issue of whom you bring home of another ethnic group? But most of all, why is it persona non grata, in dating Black men? As a Black male myself, you know all the stereotypes connected. But all men and women have them in some shape or another. Yet it is us who parents are the most against in dating their daughters.

All the reasons for not wanting a female to date Black men I have heard them over and over again. But these same responses exist in other men. People say their reasons as if it is perfection on the other side. Then what is the real reason for not wanting your daughter dating Black men. One reason is that even though we are told racism is not much of an issue today like in the past, there is a fear. You know that if your child does give birth, chances are, it will look more African American than anything else. And you know that people in society are prejudice. It’s easy to say I am lying, but when your grandchild comes home after being teased and discriminated against, it becomes a different story.

You become forced to face the inevitable. How do you tell your grandchild it is all in your head? Easy to say to me, not so easy to say to them when we live in the real world where these types of people exist. But another reason why parents are so apprehensive is because of fear of what might happen to their child. And I don’t mean from the man, but society. She is now in the line of fire just as much as me. Everything he is subjugated to, she is touched just as much for being with him. So it’s yet another smack dab in your face situation. No parent wants to deal with the idea of their daughter coming home crying because she was threatened because of who she dates. But this is a reality when in an interracial relationship.

Well, why won’t people confront their families. I mean, if you don’t agree with it should be easy right; wrong. If anything it’s harder because your family are not people you chose, but they are the only family you have. So if your interracial relationship don’t workout, they have to work. So the tolerance of dealing with family is higher than a relationship because family is more guaranteed. And that leads me to my third reason people are apprehensive. You can lose a lot when choosing to date outside your ethnicity. Because you might not get opportunities because you’re with who you’re with. You think it’s because someone else is better, it might be because who you are dating rubs people the wrong way.

In the end, I don’t think the views will change that much. I know me as a Black male, and as a overall human being. If people are not willing to accept me for me, I don’t believe I could deal with it. But I guess some people want the other person that much. And I guess that’s what it boils down to; how much you want that other person. Others are not willing to give up that much, but some are, and for the ones that give everything up, it’s worth it.
