WORKPLACE MANNERS: HOW TO BEHAVE IN WORK WITH EMPLOYEES

Two Men Leaning in Table

“Know your surroundings.”

the workplace

The workplace has been for the longest an environment where you could grow to have a relationship with the people you work along side. But as time progressed, we had to create more and more of an environment where people felt safe. And that means that certain workplace etiquette was enforced so that people wouldn’t feel threatened. Not only were there rules implemented for the workplace for how you should behave, but also laws were enacted that gave people rights that otherwise wouldn’t be allotted to them by the organizations or institutions that employed them. And just to name a few, I have rules below that were put in place to make us as workers feel safe.

protocol

There were policies that were put into place to make the worker feel good about coming to work each day.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT

The EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) has a strict guideline for the protocol that must be taken when in the workplace. And this is a form of discrimination that stems from Image result for EEOCthe Civil Rights Act of 1964. Harassment does not have to be of the opposite sex, nor does the person accusing have to be the one harassed. And that can be an interesting circumstance especially if the person and the other being spoken to have a mutual relationship. That means someone just in the vicinity can be uncomfortable just by your comments that have nothing to do with them. So you have to be careful now in that regard.

POLITICS

On jobs, especially right now in this divisive country, we are a lot of times strictly prohibited from having political discussion in the workplace. With the right and left battling it out to see whose Image result for MAGAside is better, you can really have a breakdown in the workplace with all this political talk. And not just talk about the presidents, it has crept into our sports and entertainment as well. So to keep things very simple, some workplaces don’t even allow people to talk about the fact that they are going to vote period. Because that in itself has caused problems just the idea of your vote
counting. So no discussions about politics, only work.

INCOME

A rule that has stood for so long, even longer than the previous two, and that is we don’t talk about money in the workplace. We don’t discuss who makes what and how they got the money they have on the job. That only creates even more problems when that takes place. Because now you have people who feel this person does not deserve to make as much as this person over here. And now, the workplace breakdown causes a lack of productivity. Since this person makes this much, they should be doing this or that. So we leave income to the person who makes the income.

RELIGION

Please, please, please keep your religious beliefs to yourself in the workplace. Yes America is a place to practice what you believe. But knowing that this is a diverse country where even in Christianity, we practice so many different sects, there are even more issues through other beliefs. So IO don’t even want to spend much time on this one. You will save yourself a lot of paperwork and lawsuits.

efficiency

The overall goal of any workplace is to maintain the productive nature of the job. We want everything to be effective, efficient, and productive. Once that leaves we are all in jeopardy of losing out.

MAKING ILLEGAL LEGAL: BECOMING LAX ON SOME LAWS COULD BOOST ECONOMY

close -up, court, courthouse

“What used to be illegal is now legal.”

legalities

What at one point in time used to be illegal is now becoming legal. One of those things is the legalization of Marijuana in small quantities. What before could have gotten you sent to federal prison has become a lot more lax. And to add to it, there is now a market to capitalize off of the sale of Marijuana to dispensaries.

new legalities

Are there any new industries that may emerge which will open up for mass consumption which used to be illegal? And know what in particular which is still the oldest profession; prostitution. But the idea of this becoming legal in America is such a far stretch, that it’s not even worth the conversation. Now, in other countries there is a legalization, but not America. So, there goes that idea of a new industry.

why the wait

There are multiple reasons as to why the government has waited for some period of time to legalize what has been illegal. One of the reasons is that not enough time goes by where a generation sees the illegal product or service as negative. In the past years, if you had the legalizing Marijuana debate, both sides took issue.

Another reason for the wait, is what do you doo with all the people sitting in prisons for the crime. There are countless Marijuana offenders who are doing hard time in prison. Do we let them go? Because then again, the majority of them are non-violent federal offenders.

economics

Remember prohibition; the illegal sale and use of alcohol. It seems a world away from the past where drinking beer was a fine. Now, we have beer commercials during sporting events. Enough time has went by to make it ok for use and sale. But also because the amount of revenues collected by companies as well as government for the sale of alcoholic beverages. The same will be for a narcotic like Marijuana. A multi-billion dollar industry that in the next 25 – 30 years will be a blip on the radar of conversation.

FREEDOM TO SCREEN: HOW WE SELF POLICE ON SCREEN WHEN WE DON’T HAVE TO DO SO

Image result for freedom press

“We show what we want.” “We just choose not to do so.”

what can we see

When observing television and the internet, you are allowed to showcase what you want to the world. Just as long as it is not promoting anything illegal. That’s means you can show what you want on the television, but a lot of people do so. And there reason being is because they don’t want to lose advertisers.

That’s right, news outlets and television shows censor themselves because they want to be able to collect on all those ad dollars. And when you are showcasing something they (ad companies) disagree with, they can pull their sponsorship. Because they may not want their brand to be affiliated with what you’re promoting.

where’s the freedom

We have all this freedom to do as we please, but there has to be boundaries. That means if you want to make the dollars, then watch what you say and do. But let’s assume for a second that you don’t abide by the rules. Then what you can do is go online. Yet you still have to be careful about what you decide to showcase to the world.

Why, well there are rules on the internet as well. Like for instance, you can’t upload anything on YouTube because they have deals with advertisers as well. So you have to watch what you say and do. That means creating your own website, and then you’re able to say and do as you please so long as it stays in the realm of law.

restrictions from full freedom

I always wondered, why does one go for full freedom. And I don’t mean breaking the law, I mean, where can I view something entertaining without worrying about advertisers? Because since so many rely on ads to make money, is there a place to view anything and it is what it is? Can I speak freely, publicly about a particular topic, and face losing a gig?

And the reality is that there are outlets, it’s just that they are not as popular to follow. And the ones that do, switch up and monitor themselves. And like I said prior, the money made from treading a level course is much better than taking the risk.

PURE DESPERATION: HOW MAKING DECISIONS IN THE MOMENT CAN LAST FOREVER

Related image

“Don’t do now, what you might regret later on.”

Ever get the feeling that you need help right now. No better yet, you need help today, yesterday. So you decide to make a decision that is out of desperation. But understand something about desperation, and that is what you might do now could effect you tomorrow. I heard Hip Hop artist Master P make a statement regarding being signed as an artist. He was offered $1 million for a rap career, yet he turned it down. And he needed the money at the time because he only had $500 to his name. Turning the money away was smart for him at the time because now he’s worth close to $400 million. This may have never happened had he had taken the deal from none other than Dr. Dre at the time. A move which would make Dre even bigger now.

Then again, not everyone make desperate decisions that align themselves on the law side. Some people make desperate decisions that land them in a world of trouble. Now you’ve just made an in the moment decision that hopefully you bounce back from, otherwise you could go to jail for a very long time. And that my friends is what is called a shortcut leading to a dead end. Now, is the law being broken the only desperate situation you might find yourself in, in life. No, there are people who make decisions that might leave their moral judgment in question. You might be asked to perform a certain act that you desperately need, but could cost you your job later. For example, working on Wall Street, being asked to destroy some documentation that could lead to lawful repercussions. You destroy it up to keep your job, but find out you may not go to prison, but can never work in finance ever again.

Now, are you ready to lose your entire career over this moment. This happens all the time with doctors and lawyers. And everyday, someone loses their practice or license for aiding and abetting for some type of financial windfall. You see, in the end, are you ready to deal with the drawbacks of making these desperate decisions. Everyone want something in the now, but are not ready to deal with what comes with it. From bad business decisions to breaking the law; are you prepared for the consequences. And hopefully, the drawback is not too serious so you can recover, otherwise you have to take an “L” in whatever form it may happen to occur.

TAKING RIGHTS: HOW WE INFRINGE ON EACH OTHER’S RIGHTS WHILE FIGHTING FOR RIGHTS

Related image

“You take my speech and I’ll take your protest.”

The Bill of Rights are the first ten Amendments to the Constitution of the United States. And slowly but surely we are in a race to lose those rights. But not by way of the United States government. But by way of each other as citizens. We, for some reason in the U.S. today, love to catch each other saying or doing something that we disapprove so the person can get into trouble. Now you might ask, how can your rights get you into trouble? Well, all we need is for you to do something that people don’t approve of first. It doesn’t matter if you broke the law or not, just as long as you got caught.

And this nation of children that tell on each other has taken hold. But more than than that, we have become police in each other’s lives. You say something that is you expressing your freedom of speech, and I’ll expose it. Then you turn around and catch me protesting something you strongly disagree with and then I lose my job for what I believe. That is a dangerous precedent we’re setting is going after people not because they broke the law, but because they say things we disagree with. And the populace just remains quiet, not saying anything or getting involved until it’s too late. Now what do I mean by the title I use, infringing on each other’s rights.

This is what I mean. The NFL have been a topic of discussion since quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided to sit out the national anthem. People have gotten made and decided to threaten boycotting if he was accepted back into sports. But now the Neo-Nazi/White Nationalists groups have been standing up for the right to have Confederate statues in the Southern states. Though I’m not a fan of the men and women who are Neo-Nazis, you have no other choice but to allow them access to march. Unless laws are broken you are now infringing upon the rights of others. Now, we may not agree, hell I don’t, but in order to keep everyone in alignment with rights in the this country, you have no choice but to allow access.

Because unpopular and/or hate speech is protected by our United States Constitution. Is this a sick misuse of the rights that we have in this country, yes. But as long as people go through the proper channels, there is nothing that can be done, and maybe should not be done. Because if we don’t, how long before another group says this I disagree with, or this is hate.  And it’s obvious that a Neo-Nazis hate, but in a country where freedoms are open so long as you don’t incite violence. Once that happens you are now susceptible to being stop. In the end, the problem is not just why people protest. It’s the fact that rights are such a grey area in America. Because using logic, sentiment aside, you have to allow for protest, speech, and open press. Even as unpopular as you might see it, you have to protect even hate speech to protect speech as an entirety.

A LESSON BEFORE DYING POSTS: WHY THE COMPANY YOU KEEP MATTERS

Image result for a lesson before dying

“The choices we tend to make in life.”

The above photo is of the historical fiction novel, A Lesson Before Dying. This book would later go on to be made into a motion picture played by Don Cheadle, Cicely Tyson, and Mekhi Phifer. A story about a young man sentenced to death for the killing of a store clerk and two of his associates. The film gave a really great depiction of the racial relationships of the South, as well as the harsh realities of growing up Black in the region. Now my topic today is how does ones’ choices influence their lives moving forward. Because in A Lesson Before Dying, all the main character had to do was pass on a ride with his friends.

We may all see it as nothing more than just a ride with some friends. Yet, in the film, there was something that made Mekhi Phifer, the young man sentenced to die, hesitate before getting in the car. Something in him knew he shouldn’t have been riding with those guys. It’s a feeling at times that we all have when being in the presence of someone we know we shouldn’t. It does not necessarily have to be a group of friends. You could be in the presence of family and a monogamous relationship. But the reasoning for Mekhi’s character getting into trouble is a story anyone can relate to; outside the racial premise of the film.

So many young men have been offered rides by their friends. Then get into the car and find out in the course of the ride, their friends have just committed a crime. How do you explain to the judge that you had no hand in the matter? The answer is, you don’t; and unless they state you had nothing to do with the matter, you’ll go to jail as well. Better yet, what happens when you ride somewhere and the people you are with commit the crime while you’re there with them? There is no way to plead your way out of that situation. In the case of A lesson Before Dying, the culprits died themselves, and Phifer was charged and executed for the crimes. In today’s society, you might be able to argue your way out, but not Jim Crow South.

Which brings me to my last reason point regarding the company you keep. You need to understand where you live and the laws as well. Southern laws are of the strictest laws in America. And what may be a slap on the wrist in one state is prison time in another. So in the end, you need to understand a few key words of advice. Watch the company you keep, be comfortable with decisions you make, and understand the place in which you reside.

CHURCH AND STATE: WHY RELIGION SHOULDN’T ENTER CERTAIN REALMS OF SOCIETY

Image result for CHURCH AND STATE

“Too many contradictions to have both coexist.”

The conversation regarding church and the state has been a topic of debate for decades. Should we include the religious practices of the Christian faith into our schools, workplace, or even leisure activities? And I for one am against the involvement of religious practices into our daily lives on these levels. Not because I have an issue with Christianity, but mainly because the people aspect of what could come of it. People are fine with God entering all of our lives so long as it does not interfere with whatever it is that benefits their lives. This is a key reason why we have the separation of church and state. Well, let’s go a little further into what I mean by benefits their lives.

When sending your child to school, you want and expect them to receive an education that is based in academia. The obvious reason why religion in school wouldn’t work is because you don’t have children at your schools that all believe the Christian faith. But another thing that people don’t think about is the idea that we have many sects of the Christian faith. So let’s sayauditorium, benches, chairs we do put Christianity in schools. What sect of Christianity: Baptist, Lutheran, Catholic, Pentecostal, or Johovah Witness? Here is where even more fighting could possibly take place. Because the way in which each of the above sects serve God is different. So even with Christ in schools, not all Christians worship the same.

What about the use of Christianity in our laws? Here is the problem with laws in our society. It’s easy to say, “Thou shall not kill.” But what about laws such as, “Thou shall not commit adultery.” If you ask anyone do they cheat, they’ll say no. But if you make it a law, people will fight for their right to cheat. It will be fought under the guides of “everyone makes mistakes.” But White Concrete Structurescheating is not a mistake. You don’t mistakenly sleep with another person. You mistakenly spill a cup of coffee, but you know you are in a relationship. Cheating is thinking you’re getting away with something. Well because cheating is human nature. But if the bible speaks against this human nature, can you make it law? That’s why structuring laws around religion can be dangerous.

Another place where we separate the church and state decisions are in the workplace. Everything from how you dress, to both genders working side by side. Christianity has something designed around the workplace. And you really start to run into issues, even more than children going to school. Because you have adults policing other adults who live the same way. AndMan Wearing Red While Sitting Inside Concrete Bulding what do I mean by the same way. For example, I am a male boss telling a woman what to wear. But the tables are turned the moment another man tries to enforce his will onto our wives, sisters, and daughters. We are comfortable telling other women what to do, just no one telling those close to us the same.

And in the end, all of what I have explained is the reasons why church and state have to be separated. Because when I do something you feel go against the bible it’s a sin. When you are now doing something that goes against the bible, it becomes either nobody is perfect, or the God I worship doesn’t judge. You can’t say abortion is wrong, then conduct research and abortions are up in the communities pushing against abortion. You can’t say wait until you’re married for sex, and then we find out you have been married for five years, yet you have a seven year old child. It’s the hypocrisy of us as people as to why we have to, and will always keep church and state separate.
