CLASS: THE NEW RACISM

“Society’s transformation.”

the new injustice

As a young man growing up in the Midwest you got a chance to see something that was quite interesting. And that was the disparity in society regarding the wealth in America. In the majority of minority communities there was poverty and then you had the predominantly White communities. This is where all the wealth was centralized. And as I aged I got a chance to see kids I went to school with, which was mostly White students who came from poor households. Then it hit me, who has the money in America if so many White families are struggling. Because the wealth is growing in the White community, but a lot of White families were poor. Yet the money wasn’t being trickled down to Blacks or Latinos.

numbers and the meanings behind them

When you hear the ethnic group and then look at the stat, you have to ask yourself, what does this really mean? Because if White wealth is growing, Black wealth is actually decreasing in the community, Latino wealth not much growth, and Asian growth is growing, but the numbers are still small; how is it White wealth is growing with a growing poor population. It seems to me like the same families that have amassed wealth money is growing at an increasing rate. Black people are being pushed out, Latino numbers are rising, but wealth is in White hands. What you’re seeing is a rich-poor nation. And when you hear Trump supporters, who are mostly White saying, “Make America Great Again,” they are not realizing their pockets are shrinking from other wealthier White hands.

as we trek along

Moving into the future the face of America is changing, which means the problems will still exist. Only thing is, what will they be. And with the pushing out of communities, you’re talking a cultural clash, a divide, but most of all, class will be a serious war. Because we are already starting to see people fight over who has the right to make what amount of money in a year. And who deserves to make what income. Trust and believe it will head into the future, even by 2050 when so many of Americans are slated to look similar in facial tone.

MONEY WOES: WHY ATHLETES MAKE A LOT OF MONEY AND GO BROKE

Coins Inside Jar

“Why they lose it all.”

new money

When you are a young male coming from an impoverished environment or even coming from the middle class, you have all these dreams in regards to money. Buying this lavish home and living a life that you never thought you would be living. but then it happens, and all of a sudden you can afford that house. You can now go out and buy that lavish car and those clothes you looked at through windows. But there is a catch to all this money, and that is it does not last forever. So you have to spend wisely and also pay your bills on top of that as well. Red and Brown Floral Stair Carpet

when the game is over

As the game passes you by and it’s time to move on to the next thing, now what? You have been spending so much money that you forgot about the end nearing. So here you are, broke with nothing to your name. A place where so many athletes have found themselves once they retire from the league. You are destitute and scrambling for answers as to what you will do to generate an income. And this is where you notice athletes make even more vital mistakes. They start dumping money into ideas that fall apart even quicker than spending. But see, there has to be more that meets the eye. All of them can’t be spending excessively.

reality versus fiction

When you see guys going pro, it means that they are overnight millionaires, wrong. Most of them are name you will never know who make around $500,000 per year before taxes. And their careers are on average 3 years long. So when you hear that someone made $1.5 million over 3 years, that is a lot relative to the average American. But when you factor in the fact that you have to make that money stretch after the league and taken into consideration the money you lived off of while playing, it’s not much. $1.5 million minus taxes equals about $800,000 with the average home around $250,000. $550,000 after 3 years is way less, and you’re talking working a regular nine to five. Because you’re retired, but you can’t retire fully off the money you have made.

big money go broke as well

Here is a level that is difficult to comprehend when athletes go broke. It is the level where guys are making over their career $50 million, $100 million, or even $200 million. How in the world do they go broke? And the reason is taking care of others, bad investments, and not watching their finances. They live a lifestyle that billionaires don’t even live. Taking care of multiple people who are not bringing in incomes can run up a bill as well. So it all falls apart eventually.

LUXURY SAYS WHO: WHY STYLE, CLASS, AND SOPHISTICATION IS MORE PERCEPTION THAN REALITY

Image result for FASHION BRANDS

“It’s not what we perceive it to be.”

Living in New York City, you are constantly inundated with fashion. Especially considering I live in the borough of Manhattan. Doesn’t matter if it’s the tourist attraction that is 5th Avenue, or a more upscale area like Madison Avenue. The jam packed Times Square district, or Lower Manhattan areas like Soho, Nolita, Greenwich, and the Meatpacking District. Fashion is more than just what you where, it is a cultural statement in New York City. And for those that love it the most, it’s what they eat and breathe. But my question to you is, what is real style, real class, and real sophistication? We always say, “Oh, that’s classy, or that person has impeccable taste.” Yet, does it really have meaning?

In my quest to understand the true meaning of what fashion is and why also Related imagethese male and female designers are considered geniuses, I decided to break down fashion. Michael Kors, a staple in the fashion industry, recently purchased Jimm Choo for just over $1.5 billion. Jimmy Choo itself is a well known clothing brand and fashion designer. Now, a lot of people would tell you that both Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors are Image result for jimmy choo logoconsidered style, class, and sophistication. Yet, the meaning of style, class, and sophistication are very broad terms. But more than that, can you truly say that these clothing brands really epitomizes style, class, and sophistication. Just think about it, what happens when you purchase the clothing brand at various locations, does that change the image.

Meaning, what happens if you buy Jimmy Choo at Bergdorf Goodman? Does that mean it’s less valuable than if you made the purchase at a Jimmy Choo store? Or look at Ralph Lauren, another well known designer and clothing brand. If they sold Ralph at a Costco, would it change your ideology on Ralph being style and class? Related imageAnd oddly enough, people would look at Ralph a lot differently than they did prior. Hmmm, that’s interesting, so you mean to tell me that the difference in style, class, and sophistication is the venue in which you made the purchase. That would mean that these fashion brands are not real class; they’re not real style; and they’re not real sophistication. Then again, the ambiguity of the the prior three italicized words can have so many meanings.

Class is a grouping of people who share a common educational, social, and economic bond. Style is the manner in which someone wearing the attire has a distinct appearance in alignment with who they are and how they carry themselves. Sophistication is embodying a worldly view as it pertains to knowledge and views that can be interpreted in a complex manner. All three Close-up of Shoes And Bagwords are open to interpretation given their definitions, yet we in society have defined a singular view on each word. And we usually associate all three words with luxury and wealth. But luxury says who; wealth says who? You can walk inside of Target and if a upscale brand were to sell here it would bring the value down. But if the brand is real, you should be able to sell the brand anywhere. You should be able to sell Jimmy Choos in a Bergdorf Goodman, Jimmy Choo store, or even a WalMart Supercenter.

In the end, fashion is not real style, not real sophistication, and not real class. Wearing fashion, knowing fashion, loving fashion, is a shared experience with those who indulge in the likes of what you have come to love. We place a high price tag on it, build an attractive location, and style celebrities & socialites in the attire. Now it’s supposed to be the end all be all. Yet all it takes is purchased in a different location that we perceive to be classless, lacking style, lacking sophistication, or cheapened; and our experience is ruined. Some people always say, perception is reality. No perception is perception. It’s just that we have built such a culture around fashion, we truly believe it to be real. The most common term is misdirection: what the eyes see and the ears hear, the mind believes. Control the brain and the body will follow.

THE K AND J EFFECT: WHY THE KARDASHIAN-JENNERS ARE SO APPEALING TO THE MASSES

Image result for kardashian jenner

“They’re young, rich, beautiful, and influencers.”

For the past ten years, we have been inundated with the presence of the Kardashian-Jenner family. From the reality series of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, to their numerous business ventures. This family has grown into a nearly $1 billion brand that stretches all around the world. We were first introduced to the surname Kardashian from the O.J. Simpson trial. Robert Kardashian, the girls father, was an accomplished attorney who served as one of the counsels for former NFL runningback O.J. Simpson during his trial. He passed away back in 2003, while the name is still being held strong by his daughters. And as an addition came the Jenner family when the mother remarried former Olympian Bruce Jenner (Katelyn). Two of the Jenners would go on to edge out their own identities in society: Kendall and Kylie.

Why has the influence of the sisters grown in size the way it has grown. Ten years ago, when their reality show first aired America, must less the world, didn’t even know of the sisters. As socialites in their hometown of Calabasas (Los Angeles), CA, they were known among a small group of friends. Once the reality show took off, we were first introduced to the second oldest sister, Kim Kardashian. Soon after we began to get to know the two other sisters Kourtney, the oldest, and Khloe, the youngest. Even their brother Robert was brought into the mix. And the influence of the sisters began to spread. We only knew them as reality personalities, not business women. That is until they introduced us to their store in Los Angeles D.A.S.H.

And slowly, but surely, the two Jenner sisters began to emerge as well. We knew them as the rambunctious pre-teens from the reality show. But eventually, Kendall would be introduced into the modeling world via her mother and sisters. Not long after her introduction into modeling came her younger sister Kylie. Now with all the girls more focused on their own business ventures and less with the reality series, my question still remains. How did they manage to garner so much attention? And why do so many young girls and boys flock to them? That’s right girls and boys. And here is one of my theories as far as exposure is concerned.

When we look at the Kardashian-Jenners, they were supposed to be like anyone else who popped on the scene the way they appeared. They were supposed to get their 15 minutes of fame, and vanish like everyone else; yet they didn’t. So, why have they managed to garner attention and stick around so long? Here is a theory of mine, the introduction of social media. Getting involved in social media with an early start before so many other people joined. Their series became popular not that long after airing on television in 2007. But guess what else took off around that time as well Twitter (founded 2006), Instagram (founded 2010), Facebook increased popularity (founded 2004), and YouTube (founded 2005) increased popularity. Also, the launch of major networks such as the one their show is on E!, introduced between the years 2002 – 2009. They became popular right when social media and reality television was taking off. Fact of the matter is, they got in early.

That is a strong reason as to how they became so popular. Then what about the popularity with so many young people. Well, young people are what young people have always been. The age group of 18 – 35 is such a wide demographic, yet this group makes up the validation and association group. From the highly publicized relationships of the sisters, to their signature look. So many young girls and young women want to be associated with the K & J (Kardashian and Jenner) name.  But the boys love them because one, the girls love them. And another reason is the other one, status. Men need to be validated just as women do. So, to men, we look and go young, beautiful, their own wealth, liberated, and famous. Dating a “K” or a “J” would be the equivalent of winning the lotto and moving from your one bedroom apartment into a 10,000 sq. foot manor. The underlying theory is that if you date one of them, or a woman that resembles them, you have arrived.

See, in the end, the Kardashian-Jenners have tapped into something in America. And that something lies in the very fabric of our nation. That something is capitalism, validation, and fame. All three things the sisters have, all three things society holds up as a standard for what you should want, even if you never attain it. I don’t see them going away anytime soon. Because that 15 minutes, is pushing 15 years. And still, with business opportunities endless, fame and being a socialite is crumbs compared to if they really position themselves well. They are in the app world, and we all know how lucrative the tech industry can be. Whether you like them or not, they are no longer socialites, but the society standard.

WHEN THERE’S BLOOD IN THE STREET: CAN SOMETHING GOOD COME FROM THESE HIGH CRIME NEIGHBORHOODS

Image result for blood in the streets

“Do you see the gold in the street?”

The famous quote coined by Baron Rothschild was, “When there’s blood in the street, buy.” It makes sense because people are in a panic. So when you buy, and the panic starts, once the panic is over you own a lot. And that’s how Rothschild gained his wealth. By sending the news regarding the Battle of Waterloo led by Napoleon, Nathan Rothschild gained an edge. He made one of biggest fortunes in the city at that time. The Rothschilds gained while everyone else was in a state of panic. Why, because he had an edge by being one of, if not the biggest carrier system in Europe. So he was able to deliver news that even his competition had to follow.

Now, let’s fast forward in today’s society. I grew up in an inner city community that was poor. Not only that, but the crime was high in the areas. No one wanted and still don’t want to buy property in the communities. Now, with what Rothschild did back years ago, could that be used again today. Gentrification is a prime example of that very Rothschild model. But, why not the people capitalize who are from these areas. Especially once they get enough money where they can afford to do so. Then again, how does one feel about buying property and capitalizing off of the misfortune of others. But, someone is going to do it, why not people who come from the community.

When I look at my home town for example, the low cost of property is amazing. Now that I live in New York City, where $1 million is average in some places for a home, that money is major back home. But can you just start building just because property is low? The answer is no, you can’t, why, well there has to be something there. There has to be industries or industries willing to move in and skilled labor to work jobs. So buying property when there is blood in the street only works under those kinds of conditions. But in addition to the environment conditions, what about the vision for where you want to see the place you’re investing in to be in the future. You don’t just throw money at something, you have to be skilled to grow it as well.

I look at a city like Chicago, Illinois for for example with high crime areas. No one is investing in those areas because of the obvious. But another reason is the skill of the people who are going to be working there in those areas. And, what do you plan on converting the area into. Hyde Park is a nice neighborhood where some if not a lot of people may work in the city. What about bringing city jobs to the Englewood community next door? Or better yet, Bronzeville is another community located in great proximity to downtown Chicago. Chinatown is in the middle, which is a great gateway of economic growth. Not only that, but if possible, you could bring the two communities together, creating a mix of diversity that could also contribute to the boom.

In the end, there is truth to the blood in the streets quote. Now whether you’re comfortable with investing in the areas, that’s up to you. Some people have invested, but then wound up losing money. But a guy like Nathan Rothschild, who had access to information was able to capitalize, some would say. You do also, it’s all about having the eye for being able to see the potential, then moving on it.

GOLD DIGGER: IS THIS ONLY AN AMERICA TERM?

Image result for gold digger

“How do others around the globe see this term?”

The term gold digger has been used in the United States to mean women who are only with a man because of his finances. It’s to the point that women have to be impartial to a man’s income in this country because society have made women feel bad about wanting a man of higher means. But does that mean that she is a gold digger? Or could it mean that she is a woman who just prefers to be with a man who is going to be there for her financially? Well let’s observe the meaning of this term gold digger.

America is a very expensive place to live, especially if you’re living in a major metropolitan city. So wanting to be with someone of considerable means has validity to it. For example, living in New York City where the average rent is nearly $5,000 per month, it makes sense to choose a mate who makes a certain income. Opening a conversation regarding money is quite uncomfortable for a lot of people. How do you introduce money into the relationship? Simple, you just ask the question about the person’s finances once the relationship is getting serious. Now, right off the back, that is rude and disrespectful. But if you have been with someone for a year or more, money should be something that you and that person should be able to talk about.

Then what makes someone a gold digger? They are the types that not only want to be with someone just for money, but are looking for the payout after the breakup. Someone looking to be taken care of without any form of reciprocating for the other person. So the wanting to be with someone financially stable is normal, but it’s the selfish behavior that makes the person bad in their pursuit. When you are willing to go as far as to hurting the other person to get what you want, then it becomes problematic. Now my question is, do other countries look at this the way Americans do? And in my opinion, they don’t.

When looking at a foreign country where poverty exist, young women are encouraged to pursue the wealthiest. And wealth may be viewed as something different depending on the country. A small village in a foreign country might see wealth as the man with his own patch of farmland and livestock. Or it could be the guy with his own business that has made him quite successful. And if these places are built around that concept, why is it so wrong in America? A reason being is that we are so built around being sensitive to people’s plight, that you are shamed for having these viewpoints. And what it does is that women are forced to change their language and recontextualize their feelings, yet they feel another way behind the scenes.

In the end, the term gold digging can take on so many different meanings. Depending on where you live, it can be seen as a good thing or a bad thing. But the term gold digging is subjective depending on who is interpreting the term. But there is no slowing down, women will always judge men based on finances. And it has to do with the productivity of a man. Our productivity is based in part on how we earn in society. As for women, whatever you do in this world, don’t let it be for nothing. Now, if that something comes at the cost of self-respect, it’s up to you how far you’ll take it. Just be comfortable with the outfit, whatever that may be.
