YouPay: HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE BEFORE YOUTUBE START CHARGING FOR USAGE

“You will pay, or you won’t use.”

YouTube

YouTube has been a platform for video and/or audio content since the year 2005. And over the past 13 years, it has grown in massive size. It is no longer just that content platform for just showcasing you to the world. It is now a medium for entertainment content as well. But will it ever be a place where people are charged a fee for usage?

film/television/radio

You can already upload content for people to purchase just as you would any other site. Only difference between YouTube and lets say Netflix, is that Netflix is a lot more selective. You have to have a following for your content. And then they will take a risk on investing in you. But with YouTube, you can sell directly to consumers, where YouTube takes a cut.

And if you decide to stream for free, understand that streaming dollars are very small for the person who is capitalizing. Still, what are the opportunities if YouTube decides to change up the game and start charging and being selective.

subscriptions

Right now, the majority of people you subscribe to on their channel, you can see their content for free. But this could also be a change to the site. Because YouTube may not charge the users, but the people who want a channel. Then, that would mean, the channel owners have to now charge for people to see their content. This would cut down on people uploading property not their own like song lyrics with the videos.

could it be

Then again, what if the people who use YouTube start to reject the new method. Then you would have this wide open market for people looking elsewhere. Or, the other decision is people paying because they want to use it so bad. Then again, some new young budding entrepreneur could use this as an opportunity to start their own new YouTube.

BLOGGING, VLOGGING, POSTING, AND MILESTONES: HOW TO INCREASE MY SOCIAL MEDIA AUDIENCE

Image result for MILESTONE

“Building my platform day by day.”

Yesterday, I posted my 500th post for my WordPress account. And now my milestone stands at 500 posts; 7,748 views; and 1,893 visitors coming to the site. And that is just for my WordPress because I have had this account longer. As it pertains to my personal website on Square Space I have about 121 unique visitors, 193 visits, and 360 views; my new Medium account, I have 92 views, 65 reads, and 4 followers in the last 30 days; and my Facebook fan page with 188 people. So now, I am looking into the year 2018 to grow my platforms over social media. In addition to these sites that I have through blogging, I also have my Instagram and Twitter, with my podcast coming in 2018. I put myself on a time frame for growing my platforms and writing. My writing I said 10 ten years and my platforms I have put myself on a 5 year growth scale. But in real time, everything seems to be moving extremely slow. But I wonder what my social media will look like by my mid 30’s.

And that is a very important age range for me: 33 – 35 years of age. This is the age at which I want to be fully self employed and making moves with my name via social media for my blogs, filmmaking, as a novelist, and photographer. So basically, I will be conducting a lot of writing. I want to have a successful writing career by the time I turn 35 years of age. Let’s assume I pop by the time I turn 35 years old, then build through my 40’s and 50’s. That would mean that I have a good 20 plus years of enjoying my life, and beyond. But coming from this generation, generation Y, we are used to everything moving fast. The only thing that seems to stand still is our job growth and our intimate relationships. And with that, we spend a lot of time depressed because we were given a false illusion of society that does not exist.

The only reason why I don’t quite feel that way is because my mother told me that life was going to be a struggle. And building anything that grows to be great is going to take a lot of work and a lot of time. When we look back at the work we’ve done, then and only then can we say to ourselves, ok, this is how I got to this point. I have to continue to put the work into my projects. I always stay active posting videos on what I am working on currently and in the future via Instagram. Which automatically go to my personal website and Twitter. So I am always connected because of my social media platforms. Now the question remains: “Who am I going to try to connect to, to build my audience?” Because in the end, I will need to connect and network with people to build as well. People also connect to you once they see you creating something that provides them with value. And that value is what will ultimately put me over the top.

A MOVE IN A NEW DIRECTION: HOW THE INTERNET IS KILLING THE ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS

board, cinema, cinematography

“A decline that they are not prepared for.”

Looking over the recent statistics on films in theaters, I saw that numbers appeared to be down. Maybe that’s the reason why these movies that come out later in the year around the campaigning months for Golden Globes and Oscars take place. Movies might not be able to stand on their own anymore in theaters. And a major reason for that is the internet. The internet is such a machine that you don’t need to patronize your favorite show or movies anymore. One reason being that there is more variety and the other is that you don’t have to leave the comforts of your home. So what will happen to the state of movies as time progress? Because theaters make their money by films being debut in theaters. But if people are not coming to theaters to see movies, that smells death for them.

Hollywood can always adjust to the changes, but not the theater venues. That’s unless these theater venues decide to get themselves a platform for films, and then they are in the game. Not only in the game, they don’t have to go through Hollywood, and you can go straight to the distributor as a producer. And that in turn, might be death to a lot of studios. Because everyone who is interested in making films or television is in the game now. But they are not running out to Los Angeles like years ago, but they are building their own platforms. Some teenager with a couple of friends can now be the boss of their own machine if they are willing to put in the time. Because we are coming into what is really known as the open market. And the market is the market, they don’t care who they are buying from. As long as you give them a good product and/or service.

I myself, am pursuing screenwriting and Amazon has a platform for people to submit their screenplays. And if the company is interested, they will offer an amount for the script, or even your series through Amazon studios. And for a company that just bought Whole Foods for a whopping $13.5 billion dollars, they can afford your $200,000 script. Meanwhile the average screenwriter makes only $100,000 in Hollywood. Oh, and I forgot to mention you don’t need an agent to do so. Agents and managers usually take their 20% collectively right off the top. Now you don’t have to split anything if you are good at what you do. What’s the purpose of going through the whole process of trying to find an agent. They now are in a position where they have to come and find talent themselves. So guess what, they are now on the chopping block as it pertains to the business.

In the end, you see the red carpet events and the celebrities dress to the nine. But internally they know what’s really going on. It’s the reason these superhero movies keep getting made in the business. Corporations run studios; and the studios are allotted only a certain amount of funding to make movies. That means, spend $100 million on the next epic film and then make $800 – $900 million in theaters worldwide. The venue get their 60% cut, and distribution or distributors gets their 40%. You’re talking $320 million to $360 million for the film coming back to the distributor/s. And since the customer never says a word and keeps spending, why not keep making them. So remake and reboot and series until the customers are tired and then move on from there.

FRIENDS, FOLLOWS, AND LIKES: WHY ARE PEOPLE SO VALIDATED THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA

Related image

“You don’t know them, they don’t know you, but they’re your friends.”

10,000 friends on Facebook, 1 million Instagram & Twitter followers, with 5 – 10 million likes generated. We all want these stats for our social media circles. But what does it all mean in the end. It doesn’t mean anything if you don’t know what to do with all this media attention. For most people, they have these social circles on the web so they can be validated for a comment or picture they post to the internet. But for those chosen few, it becomes a business opportunity to better themselves in life. There is always an opportunity somewhere, you just have to go get it. But why do we care so much about our social media following.

Let’s take a look from a business perspective. There are advertising companies that will dish out big money for people who have a massive following. And when I say massive, I am talking well over 10 million followers just on Instagram alone. Not to mention all the other platforms you have on social media. But since I brought up Instagram, there are Image result for instagram moneycompanies that may pay $1,500 to $5,000 for a single picture posted to your Instagram account. So if you’re posting a few times a month, you can generate a really good income. The Kardashian-Jenner girls probably make the most money. It has been speculated they can make upwards of $500,000 for a single Instagram post. But that’s expected when they have 75 to 100 million followers on just Instagram per sister.

Then, there is the other side of social media. That is the idea of being validated with no monetary income. These are people who enjoy the idea of getting multiple likes on a comment. Or making what they think is a poignant statement and people piggy backing off of that statment. Instead of people verbally complementing you, we are now settling for likes. Instead of becoming a leader, we are now all followers. I always find it interesting when I hear people who have no social media. It’s almost archaic for you not to exist in this space. Yet with all this needing to be validating , what are the psychological implications of social media. What are the long term effects of needing so much validation?

For starters, social media gives people who otherwise wouldn’t have a voice the ability to voice a concern. Problem is that people tend to abuse the power and jump on the bandwagon of causes that effect the opposition’s careers. It has also served as platforms where people spread their inner most disdain and hate. Implications of this shows they are hurt and need Related imagesomeone to talk to in life. It has given the people with no power, the power to push agendas forward. But we are becoming more self-conscious because we are putting our physical selves out there for judgement. We are more impersonal because human to human contact is rendered obsolete. And even sex has become desensitizing because we are inundated with so much sexual imagery.

In the end, validation should come from the inside out. Too many people have become too concerned with what others think, and our own views of self have taken a back seat. From over-filtering photos so it gives you a more flawless look on Instagram, to creating profile descriptions of yourself that are not even remotely close who you are in life. We have all heard that term fake it until you make it. But the fictitious lives we lead are so over the top, that we would rather fake it and not make it. Because the look of making it has become far more greater than actually having it.

SPEAKING TO THE MASSES: PREPARING MYSELF FOR PODCASTING

Image result for podcast

“Training yourself to speak to the masses.”

This year after I am finished making my second short film Freedomless Speech, I am going  to be building my podcast show. And the show will be a scripted podcast show that aims at trying to motivate and inspire people to work hard, go for their dreams, and live the best them in society. I have been thinking about this for quite some time, and now is the time to put it all together. But, I have two dilemmas: building the podcast and making myself come across clear in the podcast. Which are two of my most important issues that I will have to work on. So, you probably asking, why this and now?

Well, I wanted to do something like this for quite some time now. I am currently working on my indie films, so I need something else to keep myself in that mode. And the podcast came to mind also because I am a fan of the Brilliant Idiots podcast. For those unfamiliar with the Brilliant Idiots, it is a show hosted by radio personality and New York Times Best Selling Author Charlamagne tha God and comedian Andrew Shultz. They cover all types of topics that deal with with pop culture. I had something similar in mind, but I decided to go in a different direction. And my direction was concerning how to motivate and inspire. And the reason I chose this type of podcast choice has to do with the climate in society.

And when I say climate, let me be clear, I’m not referring to the temperature climate. I am referring to the social climate in America and worldwide. I wanted at first to cover current events, but the current event coverage was depressing. I knew I could perform on the show, but shifting through all the negative information to talk about current events I just couldn’t do. Having to spend my days going over bad news after bad news just to talk about something. And on top of all that social, people having to deal with their own personal lives. So I decided that a motivational show would work best. And the great thing about the show, is that it will be free on Soundcloud and iTunes. I even might host a few on Facebook Live and Instagram Live.

So, remember what I said earlier about building the platform. These platforms take not days and weeks, but years of building. I am already in the third year of my WordPress blog posts and it’s going good. Now, I verbally want to talk to the world. I feel I have so much to say, so much to give to people, why not share it with the world. Why not share my outlook with the rest of the world. And if the masses gain something from it, it will mean that much more to me and to them. Problem is, so many people don’t want to build, they want it overnight and that’s just not reality. I would love to be one of those people that speak to 1 million people each week.

That type of audience takes years and a lot of work. You have to be willing to put in those hours consistently. And you have to learn to come across clear and concise. Make yourself knowledgeable about the topic at hand. But the biggest aspect of making your podcast stick is to actually tough it out. A lot of people like I said before want that overnight success. And those type of people are the quick gratification individuals who won’t make it through. But in the end, hopefully this podcast gets up and running. Monetizing eventually is important, but for now, I just want to build my audience. And spread my knowledge of topics at hand that I feel people need to hear.
