WHOSE IN CHARGE: WHO DICTATES WHERE THE CULTURE GOES?

“We are in charge, but still let others make decisions.”

moving it forward

In America, every generation has something that defines who they are: Baby Boomers Rock N’ Roll, Generation X had television sitcoms and music as well that shaped them, and here we have Millennials that are now being shaped. But not mainly by the music, but by the social and the political landscape of the country. But I what I want to know is who is in charge of the culture that we push forward. Is it the people or is it something in the mass media and telecommunications? Because even though the people choose what they love, we don’t always choose what we see either.

The initial deciding factors in people getting their information is through the medium of our television news networks. And nothing has been more powerful than the news outlets. The newspaper has gone strong, but the television gets it to us immediately. And we have depended upon them for the longest to push information out to us. So with that said, do they drive the culture? Because the big networks have been battling because of politics: CNN and FOX News. And whatever they feed to society, people tend to bite and run with that information. Yet there are other deciding factors in driving the culture.

social media

This is now a major driver of the culture in today’s society. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Google, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and many others. As a matter of fact, to a large degree, one of the main reasons the former President of United States Barack Obama was elected was because of campaign pushes via social media. Young people became so engaged in both elections that now leaders in this country as well as outside are engaging on social media. So you can say that social media pushes the culture forward.

we the people

So, here we are at who really pushes the culture forward. We the people push the culture forward, but have allowed the mediums to feed us so much throughout our lives. We now have become our own journalists, and our own musicians, and our own filmmakers. We self-publish and we self sustain because we have the resources now to do so. But as with all the good that takes place, there is an ugliness to the culture as well that the people push. We have become language police and the sensitivity is at an all time high. Now, a lot of that comes from the reprehensible past that people have dealt with. But by correcting it, we overkill making up for it. Yet, as with this shift in culture, what does the future look like with the next generation?

WWW.NOBRAIN.COM: HOW IS THE INTERNET MAKING US MORE DEPRESSED AND LESS INFORMED

Image result for INTERNET

“You would think it would be an improvement not a hindrance.”

With our hands on so much information, you would think that it could potentially make us smarter. But it has not made us smarter, yet more so it has made us more slaves to our vulnerability. Which all sounds odd that we are more slaves with more information. But the information is not making us smarter because there is so much falsified information out there how do you know what’s real or fake. From the mass media on television in their competition for ratings, to the internet websites looking for hits and visitors rather than the truth. So what is the consumer left with, nothing more than multiples pages of information leading to nowhere. But then again, when we hear the truth we disregard it because lies sound much better. Well, why does the lie sound better to our ears than the truth.

This is the main reason why conspiracy theorists are so popular because they feed into not only the curiosity, but the ignorance of those not in the know. And the more we are feed it, the more it has led to people becoming more and more miserable and less and less happy. Then on top of it all, we see the perceptions people show us of their lives and it makes our existence seems that much not worth living. Everything that they are engaged in seems oh so exciting, yet they are stuck with what someone else is doing that is more than themselves as well. It just becomes a circle of fascination with ourselves leading to no one being happy with themselves. I have always wondered about the people in charge of putting out a lot for this content, how do they feel. We are the consumers, but how do they feel having to funnel this information to the masses. What is their level of satisfaction in life.

Meaning, what are the people in companies like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube doing on a daily basis. It seems to me like their jobs are more enjoyable because they get a chance to make the news. And when you’re making the news, you get to create anything you want. Or is it more like they are creating the community for the people to make their own news. And there lies more depression and sadness. The masses have now become journalists, which presents its own set of problems. Professional journalists have a certain way they handle information that is different than the average Joe. So it is more trustworthy coming from the mouths of someone trusted on T.V. than some young blogger or videographer on a platform. Yet in the recent years, journalists themselves have become these get it out there first type of people. No matter if the story is true or false.

So now, in the end, we have cultivated these mediums where we receive all this news and information. From Google to Facebook, YouTube to the national news outlets. We are constantly bombarded with information and news, but the internet has become the biggest form of receiving information lately. Yet since it’s coming from so many unknown and known journalists, we don’t know what to believe. And for that reason, we have become depressed, sad, and miserable. Receiving news from so many people in so many forms makes us not trust anything we hear until it is smack dab in our faces. By that time it is far too late to react.

ROME IS BURNING: THE RAPID DECLINE OF THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

Image result for trump administration

“Everything is starting to fall.”

Since President Donald J. Trump have been elected in November of 2016, he has consistently been in the news. And now there’s a new story, adding to the already mass media hysteria. This time it’s for two incidents: the first being the Neo-Nazi/White Nationalist march in Virginia and now the firing of his Chief Strategist Steve Bannon. This now the third person who has publically been fired or stepped down from the Trump administration. The first being his former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, then his Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, and now Steve Bannon. Now the question is, whose next on the list of people stepping down. And will it eventually get to the president of the United States?

Well, there are key people who have been in the news that could be next in line to be removed from their positions. The next could be the United States Secretary of Education Betsy Devos. She has taken criticism because of her stance on how Image result for devoseducation should be dealt with in public schools. One of her stance that people took issue to was student choice programs. She felt that students should be able to use tax payer money as vouchers to attend private schools. A move that could hurt a lot of good educators. Because what parent wouldn’t want their child to receive a good education. But since we have more public than private schools it would a lot of students who don’t qualify for certain schools as well.

She also drew criticism from the Black community stating that HBCU’s were the model for choice schools. Crazy statement to make considering Black people had no choice but to create HBUC’s because we were not allowed to go to school with Related imageWhite students. And within this statement she made similar claims of leaving it up to the states in whether public schools could use federal tax dollars to discriminate against certain students from certain demographics. So she could be next on the list to be removed from Trump’s administration. But is there anyone else on the list? In my opinion, Vice President Mike Pence position is fine and attorney general Jeff Sessions; as well as Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. The next after Devos will be Trump’s son-in-law, and the duty his daughter serves.

See, Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who not only serves as Trump’s Senior Advisor, but he’s also the husband of Ivanka Trump. Ivanka is Donald’s Advisor in the White House, which is a serious conflict of interest. Jared Kushner comes from a prominent real estate family, and his role as Senior White House Advisor Related imagemakes his role a conflict of interest with his family  business. He also came under attack for his meetings with Russian officials during Trump’s presidential run. Now his daughter Ivanka came under criticism for him appointing his child as his advisor before she stepped down as the face of her own jewelry brand. Both of these people being forced to step down could cause Trump to falter. Not to mention another advisor to Trump Kelly Ann Conway. He could begin to make even more vital mistakes.

And in the end, I feel this is how the government plans on getting Trump out of office. Break down everyone he has appointed. Then the people he trust most, force them out. Now he’s surrounded by nothing but government people he does not know, nor does he want to communicate with on any level. He’ll be gone, andRelated image Pence could step into his position, with Paul Ryan as the acting Vice President. New faces would come into play, and America would go back to business as usual. Which is what the system was supposed to have been, but Trump won. And he should really buckle down, otherwise we could see another president forced out for the first time in almost 20 years since Bill Clinton was impeached.

TOO MUCH INFORMATION: WHAT WE REALLY KNOW IN THIS WORLD

Image result for too much info

“Do we really have all the answers?”

We are in a very strange place in American society today. The question looms throughout society and that is, “Is there a such thing as too much information?” Hollywood actor Denzel Washington have conducted interviews where he has been questioning the information overload. But is it really an overload of information? Can’t write him off fully because we are living in a time where information is all around us. We are living during a time where social media has an impact just as large as the mass media. So there are now questions on what is being told and who is telling the information. So there are negatives, but there are also positives.

The negatives of too much information is that we get so inundated with information that we become desensitized to it. Stories are told so much from so many perspectives that we don’t get the truth. It’s all about who can get information out there first. So the integrity is out the door. We focus on stories that have the most views on Facebook rather than the real thing. But even with the story, very few people read. They look at the header and the photo and write about the topic. So information pushed constantly to us also makes us lazy. We don’t research anymore because we want someone else to do it for us. But, is this the only downside of too much information?

What about the idea that instant information pushed to people creates unrealistic expectations from a new generation. Information is so readily available and instant that other facets of life are looked at in the same light. Young generations think of their careers in the same form as their information. They think things are supposed to happen in life right away. Yet monogamous relationships and careers are a long tedious process. And who is to take that time to focus on something in life when so much is readily available. Now, with what has been said so far, are we on track or just a little too paranoid? What could we really be paranoid about?

Well, think of our civilization via the Type scale. The type scale is based upon the energy a civilization is capable of harnessing given the technology available to them. A three is the highest, yet there are theories of levels all the way to 6. Yet we are a .79 civilization, and with regard to the age of Earth, this is a small amount of advancement. So to think we have all this information is preposterous. We have nothing that we have really managed to harness. The information that is being flooded to us if anything is keeping us behind in time than ahead. When you hear guys like Denzel speak they come from a time where information was slowly fed. Now information is instant without the process of waiting. So now, what took Denzel years to learn I can do in a few hours in front of a computer.

In the end, anything in access is considered bad. But the people are still in control of how much information we see. We are constantly bombarded with information, whether fact or fiction. It’s up to the people to take it in or leave it. The fear of older generations feeling there is too much information like a Denzel Washington proves another fact. With his truth comes an age difference between him and the younger generation. That is that we think there is not enough information. There is still so much we don’t know about ourselves, this planet, our solar system, and beyond. So we have not scratched the surface of even who we are as a species must less anything else. But over time, we will learn more and more, and who knows it may be my generation in the future next to speak out regarding too much information in society.
