“Getting in the game.”

change in times

As you have noticed over the years, brick and mortar stores continue to close. And the reason they have such a hard time lasting in today’s society is because of the internet. The internet has made doing business offline such a hard task. And the reason being, you can get the same product/service for a cheaper price. And with so many Americans financially struggling, everyone is looking for a deal. Even people with money are now looking for sales in stores. But with this time you have to ask yourself, “How does one say competitive?”

making moves

Now, in order for you to stay relevant, you need more than just a twitter and Instagram page. You need to be more involved in order to get people to come to your business. Unless you have a popular enough place that people spread around word of mouth. You should be hiring someone that will be active constantly on your social media team. You should also host events that will expand your name into the world at large. Now this is something bigger companies are already doing, but what about the small guy. They are not doing these things, but it’s also the reason they’re going out of business. No one knows they exist, they have to do more.

join em or get beat by em

If you want to see yourself succeed in this ever changing society, then get with it. Some people look at social media as a means to connect to potential customers others see it as a waste of time. But you can’t just blow it off because it’s becoming more and more important to have as a way to promote your business. So as much as you don’t want to embrace it, it’s here to stay and very crucial in your business success.

I JUST WANT TO LIVE: WHY MOST DON’T FIGHT AGAINST THE GRAIN

People Walking on Pedestrian Lane during Daytime

“I know things are wrong, but what can I do?”

Observing the issues that have been in the news lately, you have to ask yourselves, “How do the masses feel about all this socio-political tension.” Because we see the people outside protesting. They are the fearless few who don’t think twice before stepping out and fighting. They are the ones not afraid to go to jail for what they believe is right. The chosen few that if not for them a lot of things in life just would not change. When I walk around, it’s as if we live in two separate countries. The country that fights for rights and the country that just exist. And that portion that just exist is know as the silent majority. The silent majority would much rather go to work , come home, and act as if life around them is not happening. Well, why do they do it?

I can’t look at people who don’t fight hard for what they believe in as cowards. As you age, you understand humans as a whole. And then you learn that most people just want to exist. They don’t want trouble, they just want to work and make it home in time to feed themselves and their families. But there are problems in your society that if not for the chosen few who fight, where would so many be today. We always like to look into the past and say the bad people were then, and now is different. But to me, I don’t think there were worst people in the past as a whole. I think that most people felt even slavery was bad for society. It’s just that we accept things as a nation and for the most part the world at large. Almost like this self-defeating, “Oh well, that’s how things are I guess.”

If people felt they could overthrow subjugation, I think they would have done so. But for some reason, one person says, “I’m just a regular guy, what can I do?” And then 5 people say that, then 50, then 500, and so on and so forth. All the way until it is the narrative driving a civilization. Until someone stands and speaks out, then more join. Now, is that enough for the masses to involve themselves, no. Because they are afraid; no. Maybe it’s because they disagree with the fighting; no. People don’t involve themselves because they are concerned for their own well-being and employment, but they do agree with the protest against the status quo. We might see that and say, “Well protestors are risking their lives.” But the human element of what we are is self-preservation. It all comes down to the whole fight or flight mentality. Who will stay and fight opposition and who will run away?

In the end, like I said before, the masses could be mistaken for cowardly, but just because someone is scared does not necessarily make them a coward. To me a coward is someone who prays on others weaker than them but wouldn’t dare take on a person who is their equal. You see, a lot of people not fighting back has to do with that ingrained things that lies inside of all of us. We step out into the world all hoping that nothing bad happens. We just want to work and exist. Some people don’t even care if they are barely existing because everyday above ground is great day. But as for the chosen few who fight back, they do so even if the masses don’t get involved. They fight and ultimately we all benefit from their hard pushback; and for that we thank them. Even if at times it is a silent thank you.

I’M NOT YOUR MOMMY AND DADDY: WHY THE WORLD OWES YOU NOTHING

Image result for ENTITLEMENT

“Always got your hand out.”

In the household where I come from, I was under the impression that no one in this world owed you anything. As a child, my mother let us know that I am doing for you while you’re in this house. But the moment you become an adult, you’re on your own, unless you’re in school or making an effort to be something in life. Yet there was something my mother never wanted to do. She never wanted to start this whole road of something for nothing mindset. Because like I said, the world owes you nothing. Anything in this world you want, you had better be ready to go out and stake your own claim. But where does this entitlement come from in our society?

It hasn’t always been here like it is today. You had prior generations that went out and worked at a young age. As a matter of fact, you had kids in the early 1900’s working in coal minds side by side with their parents. Now days are spent playing video games on televisions or computers. Letting time pass you by while engaging in wasteful activities on cell phones. Which brings us to the first reason why people feel entitled. The technology in America has sped so much up, people think that there should be something allotted to them quick and instant. They don’t realize that the technology itself that speeds so much up took a lot of time to build. And when I say time, I mean some stuff as long as decades to build.

With the click of a mouse or the touch of the screen, we are instantly taken to our destination. That can make people think something should be given to them pretty fast. But it’s not just the technology that makes people think they are owed something. This same mind frame exist in the employment field as well. This whole my 75% is your 100%, and we all should be given something when we are clearly not putting in the same amount of work. A trend that has started from schools in children and has followed all the way into their adulthood. Now that you’re in the real world, you don’t realize that you’re not special. No one is going to hold you close and tell you everything is going to be alright. And that’s when you learn you’re not this beautiful and talented person, but more so that you are mundane because you have not put real time and energy into being great at what you do.

And you would think with what has been said so far, the owing stops there; no it doesn’t. People feel that you have made money, so it is your job to give them something. In their minds, “You have it, why not give me something.” Then they try to use the excuse of God blesses you to help other people. When in reality, that’s true, but there is something they are leaving out. God blesses people to help those who have made an initiative to put themselves in a better place. Giving people things without making them earn it causes you to be a crutch and it cripples them. It also creates a lack of respect that the person has for something you do give to them.

See, in the end, you want something in life, you have to be willing to go into the world and stake your own claim. Because the only person who has a stake in interest in you doing anything is you. I used to ask questions of the elders about back in their young days. I remember how my late grandmother would say growing up in the South, everybody had some plot of land. Didn’t matter how big or small, it still fed your family. And it was important you tended to your land since it depended on how you and your family ate. Because if your crop didn’t come through, your family didn’t eat. You were not owed anything and no one cared. Life was tough, but it was fair because we all have the capability to get out the bed and work. What’s that saying, we all have 24 hours in a day, what you choose to do with yours is your business.

MAKING YOUR OWN LUCK: HOW TO OPEN YOUR OWN DOORS TO SUCCESS

Image result for SUCCESS

“Don’t wait for someone else, you make you.”

So many people in the United States have a hard time securing themselves a spot in our economy. They live their daily lives not doing what it is they want to do. Working dead end jobs and working just to have enough money to exist. Then there are the people who step out into society and make things happen for themselves. And the question now stands, “What separates the people who stepped out versus the others? Was it some form of talent that the other didn’t possess, was it the opportunities, or was it the willingness to not give in and give up. The answer is all of the above. But more so, you have to be willing to make your own luck.

What does that mean to make your own luck? Especially in a society where we have become so dependent on one way of succeeding in America, now that focus has shifted. And if you can’t shift with the focus you get left behind. The factories where automobiles were manufactured is a prime example of the focus shifting and to a more automation driven workplace. People were so used to a daily task that when the task changed to a more informational base/engineering base, people have a hard time shifting. Others see this as how societies have always shifted. So they just roll with the punches. But what I just said is still not enough information to make your own luck.

Let’s say you have a skill in teaching. You know that finding a good teaching job is tough. There are so many internet web portals where teachers are making an extra income working for themselves. They are building their resumes this way until something comes along. Tutoring multiple students counts as work history. It will show not only can you command a student’s attention, but your initiative to put yourself out there proves you could make a good educator. Or, let’s say you want to get into the medical field at a great hospital. But getting a job at this hospital is so tough. Try to work at a small clinic and build credibility with a community. Or try working overseas at a clinic in a poor village. You are not making much money, but you will learn to appreciate patients and medicine outside the monetary until you can get to that point.

All of this is hard because people say things  like, “You have better opportunities because you grew up with money.” “I was born to a certain economic situation.” “I am a minority and no one will hire me.” Fine, let’s say I am empathetic to your plight, now what. What is expected next? And that’s just it, what next. You grew up poor, minority, and poor education system. But there has to be a what are you looking for in this momentary position. Meaning, I grew up poor, I am an adult now. What do you expect someone to do for you today? For instance, I grew up the first 18 years broke, I am 30 years old now. Now I have nothing to show, but it was because I grew up poor. Ok, today is Friday, what are you hoping to expect Monday morning. Most people will say a job.

Ok, we are getting somewhere, a job. Then I ask what can you do, what do you do, and what have you done lately. This is when you hear crickets. Because people say it’s hard to get a job when you need work experience to get a job. So with that said how do I make my own luck. Well for starters, work experience is not necessarily a paid employment position. And a job is an ambiguous term, what position and title. Like my previous post, I spoke about self awareness being needed to make your own luck. If you are aware of self, you know the job title, income range, time on average to attain what it is you want. With that said, you can make something out of what seems like nothing. But when you have no awareness of what you’re good at, what are you good for. “I want a job,” you say; then I say, “What are your skills?” Nothing formulates after that with some people.

In the end, making your own luck comes from self awareness, willingness to not give in, accepting failure, and willing to start from somewhere. People only look at the finished outcome and judge based on that alone. There is some regular man or woman walking the street now, and we see them as normal. Once they hit a stride in their careers, we go, how. What you should do is ask people on their path to something, then once you see the finished product you can understand how they got there. But as long as you go you’re successful, it’s this, you miss all that in between work when no one knew who they were. It was the in between work of failures, living broke, consistency that landed them on their success path. Because experience is a broad term, yet that is what they were gaining, experience. They didn’t have dollars, but they had experience over you.

2017: WHAT’S TO COME OF THIS NEW YEAR

2017 Calender on the red cubes

“What is your plans for the next 12 months?

We all look forward to the New Year. It gives us chance to reflect on the year. But more so, we make resolutions that we work to keep for the upcoming year. For me, I have quite a few plans for 2017. They include, film, theater, novels, podcast show, and photography. Now, you may think, will I be doing this all at once. The answer is no, of course not. But over the course of the year I am hoping to accomplish a variety of endeavors. My first being finishing my first novel and book of short stories.

I started my novel and short stories books in May of 2015. I am performing some line editing, then I’ll design my book covers for both books. This is a crowd builder, which will aid in my next novel and short story book. Setting a goal for myself to write a novel each year and book of short stories together is going to be tough. But continuously contributing to my blog post keeps me engaged in writing my novel and short stories. Making myself write something, anything is beneficial to my books. Well, what about my other projects I have in the works. Such as my next short film I’m looking to shoot in the spring/summer of 2017.

My first short film was ok, but this one has an ability to be greater. I know more about the process and preparation has already started. The film is a 15 minute short about a public figure and her difficulty with being honest in a world where outright honesty could hurt her career. I wrote this screenplay back in September and I have been preproduction planning since then. Hopefully, this will bring me one step closer to making my first feature film. Which is why I also have taken an interest in photography. Working with stills I feel could improve more of my visuals in regards to film.

A more personal goal is health. Towards the end of the year, winter has brought sicknesses; yep, flu season. My internal resolution is to keep the mind as well as the body healthy. To eating healthy and living healthy. Which brings me to another project, my podcast show. I thought about making the show pertaining to societal issues. But that can be depressing, so I want it to comprise of motivation and inspiration.

In the end, a lot of people make resolutions, but few stick to them. Resolutions are a commitment. And they are commitments at times which requires you to work outside of your normal day job. But it is possible. You are a decision maker in your own future. Make plans and stick to them. Unless an emergency arises, they shall not be broken.

HUMAN DINOSAURS: WHY AMERICANS CAN’T FIND WORK

Image result for packard plant

“Where’s the work?”

Manufacturing in the United States of America has been the backbone of our country for over 100 years. Michigan for example, was king with multiple cities booming because of the manufacturing of vehicles. But in the recent years , there is an aging demographic who are still old enough to work in factories. There is also a young generation hoping to get in the door the same as their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. On the other hand, we are entering a new era of progress. So the young as well as the aging demographic will need to come into this new era. It’s tough because they are so resistant to change.

Well why, why not change and roll with the punches? For starters you have an unskilled and uneducated group of people that are not able to jump on board. America must get into this new industry of technological innovation through app creation, hardware, software, and all around mechanics. But taking on something this advanced is quite intimidating. Especially for those who are used to repetitive factory work. You get one task and do that hours each day. You might get rotated so you don’t become too stuck in knowing one aspect of the factory. But come on people, this is a new age.

I guess this is the same reason why President Elect Donald J. Trump is such an attractive candidate. His promises to bring back manufacturing jobs and remove what is perceived to be illegal immigrants in the way of that progress. Now if I were a betting man I would say most likely little to no jobs are coming back. American corporations can’t compete with the market if they do. And technology is moving at such a scale, humans used as manufacturing labor is an archaic form of production. No one cares if you can stand at a machine or use a drill. Why pay you $30 per hour when we can pay $3 per hour in Mexico.

So in society we have a lot of fears. But when you’re a person in the know, or willing to put yourself in the know, you can elevate. These types of individuals aren’t worried about Trump being president. They’re going to be fine because they are some of the most resourceful citizens in this country. And that’s my theory on the United States job market. We don’t have a lack of jobs problem in this country. America has a qualification problem. We have plenty of opportunities out here to make money. It’s just the people who need them are not qualified. Imagine walking outside everyday seeing the streets paved in gold. Yet you can’t grab even the smallest of piece because you don’t have the tools to pluck gold from the ground.

In the end, my theory is that instead of bringing back factory jobs, we should be training. Training people in this new tech era. Manufacturing is for machines not people. The man or woman who can use their hands to work are becoming dinosaurs. There is just too much money to be made from not bringing back manufacturing in America. The way I see it, you have to take some night classes, get on the internet and play around, do something. Do something to figure out this new thing because it is our future. And if you can’t compete, you’ll be left behind.

ODDBALL: WHY YOU CAN’T CONNECT TO YOUR AGE GROUP

Image result for ISOLATED FROM GROUP

“You ever get the feeling you’re too old to be so young?”

Waking up at 5:00 am and going to the first of my two part time jobs. Then in the middle of the day when I’m not working I work on my novel. Unless I don’t work double shifts, then it’s all day in the computer lab. In addition to my novel I have my book of short stories, pre-production for my next short film, freelance photography in 2017, and finding a way to build my podcast show I want to start in 2017! So when I hear, man, when I get out of work, I’m going home to chill; it creeps me out. Or better yet, I’m about to go home and blaze up.

Blaze up! The world is passing every single second of the day and you’re getting high. What about doing more, don’t you want to do more? I have a theory about those type of people. When you’re in your 20’s, you don’t quite know what you want out of life. So you spend the entire decade hanging and partying with an occasional hook up. It’s a sign that you don’t have anything you’re passionate about in life. But I found my passion when I was only 23/24 years old. Am I special, no, I just hate waking up, work, home, eat, then sleep. Why don’t I connect with the average person my age? It’s more than just not having passion.

Another reason I don’t connect or anyone else in my position is because of how I look at the world. When you’re young you think you know everything. The whole world is myopic to you because you have not been anywhere yet. And I’m not talking about traveling. I’m talking about the hardships that come with life. You’re not jaded yet by the world because of the things you see around you. Now me, I am jaded, why because I think I know too much about my surroundings. It’s this weird unexplained awareness. Now you ask yourselves, aren’t you a 20 something. Aren’t you doing what makes you irritated about so many other 20’s. Not quite.

Other 20’s have conversations like for instance political stance that lack substance. For example, “I could never vote for Trump!” He’s just bad for the country and Hilary is right!” “I can’t see how anyone would vote for a man like that!” “I can’t even talk to a person who would vote for a man like him!” Now me, I look at life for starters never say never. I have disagreed politically at times with him, but wouldn’t all together rule a person out. You have to way your options before making a decision. If you’re a person that all you see is bad in someone and no good, you’re just as pitiful as them. No one has all bad traits. Also, saying how could someone vote for him, yet in the same breathe stating I can’t converse with a Trump supporter answers your question as to why someone would vote for him. You have to talk to the person who you see as your opposition. But it’s hard to do so when you only stick your points.

The same applies to social ways of looking at the world. My generation says you shouldn’t fat shame, but are quick to put each other in the friend zone if they are not the archetype that we call people out for doing. We say no bullying, until a random person walk in the room we don’t know. Then a conversation ensues around what they are wearing and how they looked wearing their attire. We scream racism, but the same hipsters who are anti-racist actively work to remove certain ethnic groups from the community in opposition of their culture. We say we see woman in Kaitlin Jenner, but a woman wouldn’t dare date a man whose been with a transgender woman. Men say our new president disrespects women, all the while we shoot the shit the same why.

And that’s why I say I see and know too much. It is not just the lack of plausible information we use to drive our points. But it’s the willingness to stick to those points and not bend. You would think age changes people from age range to age range, but from 18 – 30 years is not much of a quantum leap. From some of the clothes to the music selection. I don’t feel my age, which could mean I am maturing faster than people my age or missing out on experiencing life at my age. But I can’t help how I feel. Feelings are real; the cognitive disconnect to my age group is real. Sad thing is that a lot of people never change. They wonder through life, aimlessly searching. Trying to find their place in a world that is rapidly passing them by.
