SELECTIVE BELIEF: WHY DO SOME IGNORE CERTAIN PRINCIPLES AND ACCEPT OTHERS

bible, book, business

“Passages: omit some, accept others.”

beliefs

We as people have beliefs that carry us through life. It is that thing in our lives that makes us thankful for waking up each and every morning. But what happens when that belief starts to cross over into everyone elses’ lives? We love to impose our beliefs onto others. But what happens when what we believe in faith collides with society?

What happens when there is something that takes place in our society that we feel close to us creates a bind with what we believe in religion? You are forced to choose between the faith and the social; but what usually happens is that people try to hold on to both. And what that does is you’re forced down a deeper rabbit hole.

the beliefs that creates binds

Vice President of the United States Mike Pence recently stated that he personally talks to God. And comedian and talk show host Joy Behar commented calling his ability to talk to God, “Mental illness.” It was a statement that got her in trouble with ABC television, for which she was forced to apologize.

But when a man says God spoke to him that would imply that they actually talk. And if they talk, considering what religion is, then how does God feel about guns in our society, or illegal immigration. It’s interesting what God talks to him about and what he omits in conversation. That is the divisiveness of including beliefs in politics. And it’s the duplicitous mentality of some people of faith.

stuck in choices

In our beliefs, we have what we feel and what is real. And what is real tends to be used to combine with the belief. I believe the bible is real, but I really believe in man’s direction. So we try to hold on to society and the teachings of God. But the teachings of God reject so much of how we live. So there lies the bind.

So instead of following the belief we make an excuse, yet people should still follow the belief. And you can’t worship both sides: you can live the way of God, or you can live by man’s ways. But following two powers fully is not possible because one rejects the other.

GIVING IN: HAVE LOSING SOMEONE CLOSE TO YOU EFFECTED YOUR BELIEF IN GOD

“Have you been broken or restored?”

Now, the title I decided to use for this topic is a little odd because dying is apart of life. But the title leaves open for a lot of ways to look at this particular subject. Dying could be seen at a young age, from an unexplained illness, or a tragic event happening to someone of such good nature. You might have so many questions as to why this person left the Earth at such a young age. Or better yet, how could such a debilitating illness take someone so good to the world. With so much bad in the world, why do so many of the good die young? It just doesn’t make sense how someone the world could seriously use could go so fast. What have you done when someone close to you passed unexpectedly? Did it bring you closer to God or make you not believe more?

In my life, there has not been anyone that have made me question. More so I look at the situation as a, “Wow, this person isn’t here anymore.” It just seems odd when that person who is not here was so pivotal in a family. So with me there was stunned feelings because of how everyone was discussing the holiday season. Little did we know, this person would not be around for both upcoming holidays.

Now on the other hand, there have been people in life who completely turn in their belief systems. This is usually people who lose relatives or friends to something tragic or an illness. In their minds, there is no God when something like this can happen. For example, a kid gets kidnapped and murdered, but the killer of that child is never found. People lose faith once they realize nothing will happen to find the person. So from that person who lost a child, they don’t want to hear about God, they might want revenge.

In the end, I can not tell anyone how to feel if they have lost someone close to them. Especially if the circumstances were quite tragic. With my example, it was the passing of my grandmother that was sudden. But she was 80 years of age, so it was easier to deal knowing she had lived a full life. But for others, that sometimes isn’t even enough.

IN THE LAST DAYS: WHY IS RELIGION DYING OFF IN SOCIETY

Grayscale Photo of Church

“Rapidly going away.”

As a young man growing up in a Christian household, I can tell you all sorts of stories of the important role Christianity played in my upbringing. But there is something taking hold in society that generations did not see coming. And that is that religion is rapidly dying out in our society. What is it attributed to? In my opinion, the reason for religion taking such a plunge has a lot to do with the advancements in science. The more we understand about ourselves in relation to the planet, the more religion takes a deep fall. In the past, we knew little about the planet in which we reside. But now that we are starting to know more and more, the less religion is serving a purpose. Are there any other reasons for the shift in religion declining?

Another reason for the sharp decline has to do with the level of terrorism in the world. Terrorism today are faith based initiatives that require people to have the faith of what they are doing is right. Whether you believe it or not, if all you need is to believe and make a decision without having to fact check with anyone else, it creates problems. Meaning, in my heart of hearts I feel that the bible dictates one aspect of life, and effect your life according to my belief. That causes people to stray away from religion because there is no intervention of any kind. You’re taught that a house in which children reside won’t go without food or be harmed. Yet that in itself has been proven wrong. So now, people of religion have found themselves in a tough position where they have to address things that take place. Why? Because a young demographic is starting to get turned off by the idea of religion.

Well then, will we eventually see a time where people have come to an understanding that this is it? Or, will people take on new beliefs that will replace the ones we have today? Because at the rate we’re going in the present tense, the three majors (Judaism, Islam, and Christianity) are at risk of falling. And it’s not people form the outside that’s causing the problems. It’s the people on the inside that have religion in jeopardy of falling off. See, in the end, man’s intellectual capital is climbing, yet the religion is lagging behind. A major reason that has not been expressed yet, for the decline, is religion never changes. In an ever changing civilization, something that does not change is always at risk in an evolving landscape.

BELIEF IS ACTIVE: WHAT YOUR FAITH SAYS ABOUT YOU

Image result for FAITH

“Believing in you, inside and out.”

What does faith mean to you? What does having a belief system mean to you? Is it important to have a faith base in our society or not? And when I say faith base, it does not necessarily have to be religious. I always find it odd when I hear people who have no faith. Now, when I say faith, like I said before, does not have to be religious. They can simply have faith in the idea of waking up tomorrow morning. But there are people in society that don’t even have that much. What does that say about a person who believes in nothing? What goes on inside of their minds on a daily?

Let’s first observe how people of a religious mind think for just one second. These are the people who either verbally or non-verbally express their thanks. They thank God for giving them yet another day on Earth. They pray that God gives them strength to get through the day. And they also pray that add the end of the day, he gives them yet another day tomorrow. So, to these people, they believe that there is a force, a deity rather, that is so strong it is above them. It is a force from the hand of God which places them in their situation of good spirits, good health, and an overall, good life. Because without him, they could not make it through the day. But what about other viewpoints?

What about the people who believe in their own personal selves outside the realm of a deity. They wake up optimistic no matter how rough the day might turn out. To these people, their belief in their capabilities will propel them forward. And their held belief in self is what makes up their overall faith base. They are generally people who deeply understand their own mortality. They realize that the end is inevitable, and it gives them a sense of urgency in life. “Go for the gusto,” they say to themselves. Because when the lights go out, they’re out forever. Make this one life count because it’s the only one you have to live. And believing in self at times can be just as strong if not stronger than your religious faith base.

But what about the people who don’t have anything they believe in or look toward? They are the people who just work and live to just exist. Luckily for me, I have something that keeps me going in life. That something to believe in, gives me hope and I have faith in my personal success. But there are people who live and then they die. Never in life experiencing anything remotely good or of pleasure. What does that say about them? What happened in their lives that they have no belief in anything? Not religion, not themselves, not other people, not even other living organisms. They have absolutely nothing to look forward to in life. And those are the people who are of the more depressed bunch.

Not having any faith is odd to me because what is your purpose. And I don’t mean just career, but existence. They refuse to commit suicide, well most don’t, so why exist. What is it that keeps them waking up? For most, it’s hopefully things will get better in life even if they don’t. And just like that, belief; just like that, faith. See, in the end, I don’t think that we have all these people who lack faith or belief. If we did, suicides would be of grave concern in society. The fact that people don’t take their own lives is belief that life may get better. Even as miniscule as it might seem, there is something there. An ember of some sort; if only the person could harness that ember and move on from that point, they might actually attain happiness.
