HIGH EXPECTATIONS-LOW OUTCOME: ARE YOU READY TO BE UPSET

“How disappointing.”

man that hurt

Ever tried to go for an opportunity and then you get hit with the big rejection? And that is when you realize that no matter how hard you work, some things are just not going to be for you. You can put your heart and soul into whatever it is you’re doing, yet at the end of the day it means nothing. Someone will get the gig over you, but what hurts the most is someone who got it and wasn’t nearly as good as you. And that’s when you find out, there are other qualities besides being good at something. This can be frustrating because I thought that is what you needed was pure talent.

are you sure  you’re that good

You have this idea that you were the best, but were you? Nobody want to think that they were not that good. But in reality, you might not be that good. So you worked hard, but this person was still better. Thy might not have worked as hard either, but they were nonetheless better. Now some people observe what that person did, and then they try to figure out what they did wrong. But so many people won’t do that, they just end up not liking the person who got the role.

it’s the nature of the game

Guess what people, it is what it is. You didn’t get it, so regroup and go back at it. That is apart of the game . And that is the setbacks that comes with not getting what you want. Those that do go on to succeed are the ones that keep at it until they do get that major opportunity. The ones that don’t get the opportunity are the ones that complain about how they got passed up.

JOB VERSUS CAREER: WHY SHOULD WORK TOWARD THE CAREER

Close-up Photo of Man Wearing Black Suit Jacket Doing Thumbs Up Gesture

“One is a struggle the other is  dream.”

working in life

We go to our jobs on a daily basis and then come home. We go to the workplace then come home. Our lives take on this mundane process that seems to never go anywhere, until we realize there must be a change somewhere. So what is that change that must take place? It’s the change of finding a new job. But you also think about whether you want a job or build a career. Because building a job and having a career are two totally different goals. A job is a wage you’re paid for performing a task and a career is a lot more specialized.

the job

This is what most people have, a job. They go to work, and they perform a task that pretty much anyone can be trained to perform. But it’s just that a task. And when you are working a task that virtually anyone can do, you now put yourself in a binding position. Because now, if anyone can do this you will easily be removed by someone else. But also, once a better means of productivity takes hold, you will be replaced. So without specialization certification you are literally holding to life by a thread.

the career

Let’s get into the career, and acknowledge that this is what most people strive for in life. The difference between a job and career is that working on the register or grill of McDonald’s is a job, but the Regional Manager role is a career. One requires job training to complete, and the other requires your skill to contribute to the overall productivity of the organization. The main reason you want a career is because it doesn’t seem like work. You are doing what you love, so you’re theoretically living out your dreams.

MAKE THE MOVE: ARE YOU READY TO JUMP TO ANOTHER CITY FOR A JOB

Woman In Grey Shirt Holding Brown Cardboard Box

“Packed and ready to go.”

the jump

When I first moved to New York City was to attend graduate school pursuing my MBA in Management. And along the way I found myself getting into writing and filmmaking. Yet most people make the jump into a city for a job opportunity. But is this always the best options when choosing a career? Because most people want to find a job wherever it is they are from, or went to college. You’re from the state of Indiana, most people stay. You from Indiana and went to college in Miami, chances are you will live in Miami after college. But let’s assume for a moment you want to make the leap to a new city. How shall you prepare yourself?

the big city

For most people who move, they go from living in a small city to a big city, or big city to big city. Wherever you go, make sure you visit the location first to see if you’d like it. So many people move to a new location they hate. And even with a good job awaiting you, the location can make or break you. Meaning, the lifestyle of Los Angeles is different from the life a person living in Houston. You’re jumping from the liberal California coast to the conservative south. Another aspect of moving to the new city is making sure the money being offered will grant you the same, if not a better life. For example, if you are being offered $100,000 to work in New York City, but make $90,000 in Chicago. Staying in Chicago might be worth unless the new jump has other better incentives.

along for the ride

For me, moving to New York City was easier than someone in a relationship, with kids, or both. Imagine getting a great opportunity in another city, yet your spouse is doing well in the current city and the schools are good in the present location. And in this moment you could actually see families torn apart. Now, if you live here in New York City and the job is in New Jersey, then it’s not that big of a deal. But if you live in D.C., but the job is in Phoenix, that’s a problem. So hopefully you have an understanding person you’re dating or married to.
