PODCASTING: DEVELOPING YOUR ON AIR VOICE

“How will I sound: natural or unnatural?”

Since the beginning of the summer, I have been prepping myself for the podcast show that I am looking to create. It will be a scripted podcast geared toward motivation and inspiration. And the reason I chose to have a podcast geared toward this topic is because it not only puts me in better space mentally, but also society. People need an alternative to everything that is going in the world today. Especially with the politically divisive United States right now. The country is so split down the middle that we need an alternative to the daily news. So Faheem Jackson Words of Motivation and Inspiration Podcast Show will be live by the year 2018. But my main goal now is developing a voice for myself.

And when I say develop a voice for myself, I mean my sound. I know what I want to talk about and how I want to talk about it. But for me, I am working on getting used to hearing my voice. How does my voice sound to me versus how does it sound to other people? Will my message come across to people in a clear and concise manner? How will I approach reading to my audience from a script on my podcast? And all of this is something that I will have to continue to work on. I even practice through the use of Instagram videos of myself and posting for people to see and hear. To me, my voice sounds fine because then again, it’s my voice. But what is my voice to someone who doesn’t know me. We get so used to our own voices, we don’t really know what it sounds like until someone tells us.

Living in New York City, my accent sounds different to people living here. But to me, it’s a normal voice. I’m asked all the time, “Are you from the South?” And my reply is always, “No, I’m from the Midwest.” But to me, they are the ones with the accent. So, with that said, do I change my voice to fit into my environment? But, on the other hand, what if someone from New York hear my real voice outside of the podcast. Then they’ll see me as less authentic, and then it will turn them off of me. People might much rather listen to my real voice. Because me being comfortable in this different environment could be seen as respected. It’s hard to listen to someone talking motivation and inspiration, if the person is so viewed as unauthentic.

And in the end, that is the toughest job in trying to connect to people. Do they view you in an authentic light. That’s why it’s important to script out my podcast as clear and concise as possible. And practice what I plan on writing out, this way it comes across as if I am knowledgeable about what I discuss.

SPEAKING TO THE MASSES: PREPARING MYSELF FOR PODCASTING

“Training yourself to speak to the masses.”

This year after I am finished making my second short film Freedomless Speech, I am going  to be building my podcast show. And the show will be a scripted podcast show that aims at trying to motivate and inspire people to work hard, go for their dreams, and live the best them in society. I have been thinking about this for quite some time, and now is the time to put it all together. But, I have two dilemmas: building the podcast and making myself come across clear in the podcast. Which are two of my most important issues that I will have to work on. So, you probably asking, why this and now?

Well, I wanted to do something like this for quite some time now. I am currently working on my indie films, so I need something else to keep myself in that mode. And the podcast came to mind also because I am a fan of the Brilliant Idiots podcast. For those unfamiliar with the Brilliant Idiots, it is a show hosted by radio personality and New York Times Best Selling Author Charlamagne tha God and comedian Andrew Shultz. They cover all types of topics that deal with with pop culture. I had something similar in mind, but I decided to go in a different direction. And my direction was concerning how to motivate and inspire. And the reason I chose this type of podcast choice has to do with the climate in society.

And when I say climate, let me be clear, I’m not referring to the temperature climate. I am referring to the social climate in America and worldwide. I wanted at first to cover current events, but the current event coverage was depressing. I knew I could perform on the show, but shifting through all the negative information to talk about current events I just couldn’t do. Having to spend my days going over bad news after bad news just to talk about something. And on top of all that social, people having to deal with their own personal lives. So I decided that a motivational show would work best. And the great thing about the show, is that it will be free on Soundcloud and iTunes. I even might host a few on Facebook Live and Instagram Live.

So, remember what I said earlier about building the platform. These platforms take not days and weeks, but years of building. I am already in the third year of my WordPress blog posts and it’s going good. Now, I verbally want to talk to the world. I feel I have so much to say, so much to give to people, why not share it with the world. Why not share my outlook with the rest of the world. And if the masses gain something from it, it will mean that much more to me and to them. Problem is, so many people don’t want to build, they want it overnight and that’s just not reality. I would love to be one of those people that speak to 1 million people each week.

That type of audience takes years and a lot of work. You have to be willing to put in those hours consistently. And you have to learn to come across clear and concise. Make yourself knowledgeable about the topic at hand. But the biggest aspect of making your podcast stick is to actually tough it out. A lot of people like I said before want that overnight success. And those type of people are the quick gratification individuals who won’t make it through. But in the end, hopefully this podcast gets up and running. Monetizing eventually is important, but for now, I just want to build my audience. And spread my knowledge of topics at hand that I feel people need to hear.

TOMI, OH TOMI: HOW AGENDAS ARE MORE FAKE THAN WE KNOW

Image result for TOMI

“Which side are you on?”

Conservative talk host of The Blaze’s Tomi Lahren was suspended this past week amidst comments she had made while on air. They weren’t her usual conservative views, but views that swayed a little in the opposite direction. These views got her suspended from The Blaze. Now, people on the left would see this as a good thing. I myself lean a little more left than right, yet I had to take a closer look at this one. Tomi Lahren has been outspoken for quite some time regarding her political viewpoints. But now she’s suspended for statements regarding pro-choice on abortion. Hmm, I find it odd, well why odd.

We live in a country where you have to pick a side on a particular issue. If you pick that side then fine. But if you question something from that side which goes against the side you will lose big. It’s because agendas in America are about not crossing the viewpoint line. As long as you’re down for what I’m pushing, I’m fine with you. But the moment I disagree, I become the biggest piece of garbage around. It’s because we have factions, and a disagreement means a divide in the faction. This is a main reason why I can’t watch the news. They’re places where people fight for ratings, not necessarily seeking the truth in what they report.

What do I mean by the news, I mean both liberal (CNN) and conservative (FOX). And anytime I talk to people, they tend to have one station they patronize. But, since when is it rational to have one viewpoint in the world. How do you not challenge a belief system instead of blindly following. Yet if you challenge the belief you can lose a job. So what should you do in this world? Should you speak up and speak out, or shut up and fall in line? Are you going to take the righteous road or the say what’s expected of you road? Tomi Lahren honestly thought she could speak from her own morale. When in reality, you speak by way of who makes your career.

She received what amounted to a career assault on her person. Someone walked by groped her, and when she turned around to swat them away, the person had long gone. Now who do you complain to regarding this assault? But is it all the conservatives? My answer to that is absolutely not; it just happened to Tomi. There are plenty of liberals that are phony in their agenda. Men and women in the fashion industry ostracized Tiffany Trump at a runway show for the comments her father made. But let’s be clear, he is supposedly disrespectful toward women, yet they have spent years degrading women on their physical appearance. Trump is supposed to be bigoted, yet fashion designers use hundreds of models at fashion weeks, but when it comes to Black women their comment is same, “It’s not my astatic.”

Not my astatic has been used so much when describing working with Black people, that it has become subject for much debate. Hollywood actors stand and criticize, yet would never throw a Hollywood executive’s name under the bus for excluding minorities from acting roles or women from directing jobs. So the left is just as bad as the right. In the end, there is no real side to take. Now the book 48 laws of power speaks against standing alone. Yet standing with a group is just as dangerous in society. I guess agendas will always be apart of our world. In that case, there will always be a constant rotation of Tomi’s being ripped for showing that divide in the faction as well.

MOTIVATIONAL: THE ROAD TO BUILDING MY PODCAST

“The build is tough, yet well worth it.”

In the year 2016, I became I a big fan of the podcast show the Brilliant Idiots. For those of you who don’t know the Brilliant Idiots, it is a podcast show by the Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne tha God and comedian Andrew Schultz. Their podcast consist of topics that have to do with current events in America today. They cover topics ranging from their favorite musicians to the political landscape of our country. From monogamous relationships to how to inspire yourself. Through becoming a fan of this show, I have decided to create my own podcast. So at the end of 2016, I had already started writing down topics I want to cover for my show.

Now, you may ask, what are you possibly going to cover. I thought about covering some of the same topics. But once I soon realized how unhappy I would be trying to shift through all the bad stuff that goes on in our world to talk about. So I decided this year that I am going to make a scripted motivational and inspirational podcast show. I have a lot to write about in regards to how to motivate and inspire. Why, well because as a newly published novelist, blogger, and screenwriter, I am constantly trying to motivate myself more and more. The inspiration comes through me pursuing a goal that most see as just some dream I’m chasing. But I’m not chasing a dream, I’m chasing the pursuit of happiness.

Now, does that mean I am currently unhappy. No, I’m not where I would like to be in my career path, but not unhappy. If it weren’t for me trying to pursue a career as a writer, I probably would be miserable. So creating a free podcast show for people to tune in and hear words of motivation and inspiration not only helps them, but me as well. You see, in America today, we are currently enthralled with the new president Donald Trump. So he’s going to be in the media enough. And me having a topical podcast based around societal issues would mean following along with the traffic behind him. In my opinion, people need some type of motivation, and to feel inspired. So how do you get people to listen?

There are plenty of motivational and inspirational shows and books out there, so how do you get them to listen. You have to provide more than just the normal motivation. Meaning, you say the words to help people feel motivated, but my goal is a scripted motivational show based around writing out words of how to push in life and steps toward your goal. And since I am in lieu of my own goals, I feel that my motivation will inspire others. In the end, people need a reason to keep pushing. It’s hard when employment is so hard to come by. You have bills and families to care for. So, hopefully, I can use what drives me to propel others forward.
