STAYING MOTIVATED: KEEP GOING EVEN THOUGH NOTHING IS WORKING

Person Holding Stay Focuseds Paper

“Work out.”

wake up go out

How do you stay going even when nothing around you is happening in your career? Well you have to do something on a daily basis. Me, I like to sometimes envision myself traveling somewhere that I have never been until I can afford the means to go. You are able to not only pass the time, but you also can find out you have motivation through the things you think about having in life. There is something about the vision that will get you up off the couch and pursue for your career. Because a lot of careers in today’s society involve you going out and getting the job. You can’t wait for someone to give you the opportunity, you have to go to it.

keep your head up

Sometimes it’s hard to go when you have dealt with so much hurt. But know, that you are not an anomaly, plenty of people have been in your predicament. I hate to use the cliché that nothing in life comes easy. And that is true, it doesn’t. I remember in a speech that Denzel Washington gave that stated “The greatest impediment to success in life is ease.” You will not go anywhere until you have felt that hurt and pain. And when I say hurt and pain, I mean the mental. Physical is not what you’ll experience, even in a career that is physical. The games that will be played on your mind will hurt you more than any hit on a football field, or building block falling on you in construction.

light at the end

There are better days ahead of you in your quest for success in your career.  In time you will be where you want to be, but don’t let the now effect your future. Because the only person responsible for your come up is you.

AIM HIGH: ACHIEVING THE GREATEST YOU IN THIS WORLD

Image result for ACHIEVEMENT

“Keep going: never stop, never quit.”

We should all want to strive to be the best us we can possibly be in this world. Not just because we want to excel in our careers, or to make a lot of money. But we should strive because it internally makes us feel to good to achieve. Especially when the achievement comes from humble beginnings. What better way to go through life than to start at the bottom and build yourself to the top. And the top can be a very ambiguous word depending on the person pursuing the top. The top could be being one of the best school teachers in your school, or the top can mean the superintendent of the entire school board. The top could mean a head coach of a professional sports team, or the owner of the team.

But other ways you can reach the top is by means of mental greatness. Some people have average financial gains, but they have this mental awareness of who they are in life. That mental could be something connected to their spirituality. Reaching the highest level of spirituality is to some people what winning the Powerball lottery is to another. Well, is there ever a time where the mental is hard to achieve because something else internally is blocking that mental? And the answer is yes; there are plenty of instances where someone has a hard time with their mental greatness because of some extenuated circumstance they may be dealing with at the moment. Enternal issues such as Depression, stress, and anxiety can lead to you not being able to fully achieve such mental greatness.

Well, what about back to financial gains, what is wrong with wanting to reach a higher level of wealth? And the answer to that is nothing. There is nothing wrong with wanting to strive to attain a higher level of wealth for yourself. There are so many people who think chasing the almighty dollar can be a bad thing. I don’t think it is because everything is in context. If you want a nice estate, nice cars, vacations, then fine. It is a life that is well in reach. To me, it’s about how you’re going about attaining your wealth. If there are people you’re directly hurting to gain, such as selling drugs, then no. But if you start a company that grows into a multinational organization, then fine. Because you’re gaining wealth, but also, you’re employing people in the process.

In the end, striving to be the best you, you can be is very rewarding. It can come in both a financial, physical, and intangible form. You want to lose weight and that helps you become the best you, then pursue it. You want to gain wealth, pursue it. You want to be the best parent, pursue it. There are no guarantees, but the great thing about living in America is the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And that’s the key word: pursuit.

MEDIOCRITY IS WINNING: HOW AIMING LOW “IS” AIMING HIGH IN TODAY’S SOCIETY

Image result for MEDIOCRITY

“We celebrate taking the “L” yet we don’t respect the “L.”

Hard work and determination has been the name of the game forever in American society. But have we finally come to a point where mediocrity is the new name of the game? Are we finally starting to see the dumbing down of a generation? I was listening to an episode of the radio program talk show The Breakfast Club. And music producer Rico Love was discussing the state of music in the industry. And the conversation was brought up regarding mediocrity and why bad music is selling. There is a lack of respect for the craft and people have a hard time patronizing something they don’t see as attainable. So people are comfortable with not winning or being great.

Is there some truth to that assessment regarding music? Or is there something bigger going on in our society? In my opinion, it’s not just music, there is a societal shift as well. You watch it in sports, how everybody gets a trophy. It’s almost as if we are now living in a world where if I can’t wrap my mind around something that is greatness, it’s dumb. So much so, you have thinkers dumbing themselves down for the sake of fitting into the popularity of the dumb culture. Instead of them saying no, that’s bad, this is great. And that is a problem in our society because it has bigger ramifications.

For example, other countries are teaching their children to strive for greatness, yet America has this new everyone is special mindset. So what you will notice is more kids who are winning outside of America. But also, the immigrants who are coming in will start to dominate over those whose families have been here longer. Even if you never attain that greatness, you should want to reach those great heights. But now, it’s almost like a punishment for anyone who thinks in this mind frame. Now here is the reality of the mind frame when looking at how we are promoting the everyone gets a trophy and dumbing of a society.

In reality, life is about taking “L’s” and taking “W’s.” Life really is about winning and losing, and the people telling you it’s not are the real people pushing to win. I hate how athletes and entertainers tell young people life is not all about winning, when they have to win to keep their jobs. And mediocrity will not be taken lightly and you will lose your job. Everything is the “W” in the real world, everything. But there is a difference between taking an “L” and actually being a loser. Everyone loses, but losers are the ones that give up and never try again.

In the end, people who are performing well consistently have been taking these hits for some apparent reason. People look at them and go, I can’t attain that, so I’ll be this guy over here whose not as great. I see it with the president; where people have said why do I need a resume to do this, the president doesn’t have political experience. And that is something in life I never have done. Look at someone I see as mediocre and go they don’t have it, why should I. If you feel someone else is mediocre, why not try to be above mediocrity. Because the work to be better is too much, and it’s comforting and easy to be less than average, must less great.

FALLING FORWARD: HOW TO BOUNCE BACK FROM FAILURE

Image result for FAILURE

“Have you ever felt like quitting?”

We all have gone through it at some point in our lives. Failure; failure is something we have to learn to deal with in life. It’s what makes successful people who they are in society. No successful person has become successful without having to jump the hurdle that is failure. And the reason I said hurdle, is because you ever watch track and field? See the people who run their race and then out of nowhere they trip and fall over one of the hurdles. From that point on the race is lost. What makes that person great is their willingness to never give up. You eventually see them winning and think it came naturally to them. But little do you realize, it took a lot of falling.

Now, the example I have would be my own path in life. I am pursuing a career in filmmaking as well as an author. My first film was a short where I only raised 60% of my budget to make my film. One of the actresses didn’t show and the sound was not that great. Yet I still made my first short with limited help. I also self-published a novel and a book of short stories together. Both have been moving relatively slowly, but I have already started on my next novel, book of short stories, as well as next short film. So what was it that made me regroup and start fresh? Why didn’t I just say, “You know what, this didn’t work, let me move on to something new.” Why, well, it’s because I believed I had something. A vision that only I could see, and I would have to persevere and keep moving forward.

That is the key element; moving forward, or better yet falling forward. When you you fail, you fall, but fall into the next short film, the next book, the next objective. Always be falling into something else because before you know it, you’ll be falling into success. People will go, I can do that, and that’s when you’re doing your job. You do it so seamlessly well, it makes the outcome look so easy to perform, yet quit difficult under the surface. But this is a process that takes years to perform. People can only see the finished product while you know and understand the entire process you had to overcome. The heartache through failure time and time again. But each time you got up and kept going.

In the end, we all have a journey to a means. It’s tough because when you get to a point in life, people treat it as if you were born into this life. Like you woke up one day and poof, success. They don’t see the long arduous road to where you are now. And it’s because of that in the moment view they can’t get to where they want to go. They see the now and where they want to go in the future. They are not willing to put in the work of falling and getting up, falling and getting up. But those who are willing to put in the time and work will eventually fall. They’ll fall forward into success.
