THE DISCOVERY: HOW DOES ONE STAND OUT FROM THE PACK

“Dare to be different.”

differentiating

In our society today, you see so much entertainment that is based around so many people sounding the same and looking the same. How do you know one person from the other. Everything you turn on is just the same as the next thing. So in a world, where I myself am an artist, it seems that you have to be sometimes the norm to be relevant; but do you?

the pack

What if I dare to be different as most would say. Does that mean I will be seen for certain? Because in the entertainment world, people want their success right now. So when they see another person’s formula working, they run with that. But it’s not you, you’re the rest of the pack. Find your voice and stick to it, but that it easier said than done.

programming

There are so many different ways to standout from the pack and not get caught up in what else is being done in entertainment. But we become so disillusioned by what is hot right at this moment, we are in a trance until it’s too late. cinema, dark, displayIt’s why you are supposed to exercise your creativity like any other muscle in your human body. I think this is the reason when it comes to entertainment, I try my best to not get caught up too much into what is hot. Because what is hot is always getting replaced. So stick to your guns and keep at it.

TODAY’S ARTIST: HOW THERE IS NO BETTER TIME TO BE AN ARTIST THAN NOW

“Making magic for money.”

artistry

Artistry has been apart of the human experience since the days of cavemen and women. Form paintings on the cave walls to the canvas, we have always aimed at expressing ourselves through some form of artistry. But for so long, we have only had a select venues for showcasing our work. Well, at least venues that were open to us making a living.

Now there are so many different outlets to making an income for an artist. You don’t need the gatekeepers like in the past.

outlets

Thanks to social media, you can now get your work out there a lot easier than people of the past. Artist in the past needed some sort of investor or sponsor to help push their projects out into the world. For example, Instagram is very pivotal in publishing videos and even pictures of all the work you want to showcase. Facebook is also a place where people can see your art as well as YouTube, Hulu, and Vimeo. These places serve as a house for your work to be displayed.

downsides

As with the good of being an Indie artist, there are the drawbacks. And the drawbacks is that there are so many good artists, that it’s easier to get lost in the pack of talent. You must be able to distinguish yourself from everyone else doing what you’re doing. Meaning if you want to be a dancer, just dancing is not a good path to follow. You have to have a niche that people love.

Another problem is artist a lot of times are not business minded. So trying to sell their work is a lot more difficult because they are generally introverted. And in order to be a good salesperson you must put yourself out there in the world. But still, with the downsides, it’s still a good time to be an artist.

BEING DIFFICULT: WHAT IS MEANT BY BEING DIFFICULT IN ENTERTAINMENT

Image result for difficult

“What it all means.”

being difficult

When you listen to people who have been blackballed in Hollywood, there is this same saying over and over again, “They’re difficult.” And to me, I have always wondered, what does that mean. We keep hearing this word, but no one seems to explain what is meant by being difficult. Can anyone name an instance?

Or could it be that the person or people calling you difficult says so and is not used to explaining why.

blackballed

In an environment that prides itself on being so inclusion and so open, it is also a place where no one really tells the truth about anything. And for those who have decided to speak out, what is it about them that sets them aside from the rest that don’t talk. Do they possess a certain moral judgement or do they now have nothing to lose?

Recently comedian Monique’s name has been brought up again due to her receiving such a low deal from Netflix. She has been a person who has been accused of being difficult, but no one can explain difficult moments. Which prompts you to ask a lot of questions.

what is it?

When you look at the demands of certain celebrities who are considered difficult you come to a consensus. Difficult is wanting anything that is an inch more out of a mile that could contribute to your overall happiness that a boss is not willing to give. You would think it is something major, but a minor issue is made into a major problem to keep everything and everyone in check.

Another example of difficulty is existing in an environment having anything to say that does align itself with the overall mood of what everyone else is pushing. So if you are conservative in a room full of liberals keep quiet. Your views could get you hurt. Because other than the two examples above, no one can explain what is difficult.

agendas are born and die

With what has been said about the celebs who are blackballed, it only makes the Me Too and Times Up movements appear weak. Because the same way that people in entertainment stand behind the machine to push against the blackballed Monique is the same reason Harvey Weinstein stayed on top so long. And all it does it show people in society that business as usual still exist.

THE NO-BODIES THAT GET IN: HOW UNTALENTED ARTIST WINNING SHOULDN’T DISCOURAGE YOU

“Put the work in.”

the ones that get in

In America, we have always had these viral sensations that come into the spotlight. No matter if it’s a musician, or some other talent. They come into the hearts and minds of people, but then they leave. Just as much as they make so many laugh and listen, you have a demographic that gets upset. And the upset is in how they managed to slip into the public eye.

When you awake, working on your craft, and they just make some video and next thing you know, they’re everywhere. They are on major TV shows conducting interviews and pop up at major award ceremonies. They’re treated like they’ve done these massive projects. But after a while, they fall off the face of planet as if they never existed.

why we like them

America is a place where we like the rags to riches story. It makes the average feel like there is still hope. So when these one hits come in from nowhere, we cheer them on. They have no backing, no one to show them the ropes. The connections to the entertainment industry don’t exist, and they do it themselves.

So when they hit, it becomes this Cinderella story. But eventually we see they don’t have talent, and they’re just like the rest of us. But for just a moment, it is a temporary escape from day to day realities.

short lived fame

As for a reality check, these one hitters don’t last. We always ask ourselves why are they getting all these opportunities. Then we see the rapid fall and that’s because they don’t have the talent to sustain. They might have gotten lucky with a song or video on the internet. But sustaining means bringing that again and again. And that is when they’re exposed, and we ultimately walk away from them.

NO TELE: WHAT WILL HAPPEN OF THE TELEVISION IN THE FUTURE

abandoned, antique, close -up

“What will come of it?”

television

The television was created nearly 100 years ago. And since then, it has transformed from a medium with only a few channels to thousands of channels. First created as a means of educating the public, it has gone on to mean a form of entertainment. But with so many platforms on the internet, what will happen of the television?

platforms

The internet platforms that are rapidly eclipsing the television are Netflix, Amazon Prime, Vimeo, and Hulu. These platforms have gone from small companies, to majors in the film and television business. But will they be a long term threat to the entertainment industry?

opportunities

With regards to people looking to make a name for themselves, there will be an open availability to be creative and grow on their own. You used to have to go to Los Angeles, now, you can upload on sites. Or if you have an audience that has been built by yourself, these various platforms would be open to business. What could this mean for the entertainment business?

barriers

Will we start to see boundaries for coming into the entertainment business? Because if the people who can easily use these services grow too much, they become more of a liability than an asset. Because there are a lot of people who work for companies that are not on platforms. But the other side is platforms may start to become even tougher to work with. So like Disney who announced they will have a platform, others may have to follow.
